So i am a big son of a bitch. I am 6'3" and 278lbs. I need a cheap bike to take on trails and the road. No jumps. Worst case scenario is going over some tree roots and rocks imbedded in a trail.
I looked at Walmart but some of their bigger bikes say "5'10" - 6-1"" for a height cap. I assume someone above 6'1", knees would hit the handle bars? I cant see any weight capacity stickers and you know the workers there dont know shit about bikes.
Please help me find a cheap bike that can handle the weight and height. Dont care about looks.
Dont want to spend over 300$

>No jumps
You got that right fattass
Double your budget and you can get a decent mountain bike that will handle your size. Any Walmart bike is gonna fall apart on you on a trail if it's not completely smooth.
What do y'all drive when you go /out/?
I know these threads come up pretty often, but searching the catalog didn't come up with a current one and I have a question (plus these are always a good time anyway).
I'm about to buy a new car, and my mechanic has a 2005 Outback (auto), 2010 Forester (manual), and 2010 Impreza hatchback (manual) that I'm considering. At first I wasn't interested at all in the Impreza due to lack of interior space, but it's probably the objectively best deal of the bunch given my budget and its price. I'm thinking about putting roof racks and a yakima or thule box on top to make up for some of the lost interior space (pic related), is this a good idea? Or should I just go with the Forester? I'd go for the Outback in a heartbeat if it was manual, but it's not.
Originally I wanted an 00-03 Tacoma, but finding one with a manual transmission and free of frame rust (WI winters) within my budget has proven impossible.
2009 f150. I wanted something more midsize but this has been perfect

Yeah, I was looking at Rangers for a while as they're similar to the era of Tacoma that I like so much, but one of my good friends got one a month or so ago so I'm not trying to bite his shit.
How has your /out/ hobbies influenced your experiences with girls, on and off the trail?
Do you bring it up in casual conversation?
How do they react?
Name your discipline and share your experiences and adventures.

Hmmm I would have to say that getting fit from being out has helped tremendously in my confidence with females. I've always been /fit/ which means I've always been bad with girls but once I became /out/ I became a man.
I invite girls to hikes or other out adventures and they love that shit.
I usually make the first date an /out/ing to get close and personal with them. Shit works wonders.
One thing that gets them all hot and bothered is taking them to go rappelling. They say they're down to do it but once they see the cliff, they always back out and just watch me do it. I think it makes me look more attractive to them seeing me step off a cliff edge. It has resulted in some fun flings.
>>1046564
>indoor/outdoor rock climber transitioning over into proper /out/
>currently EU
>when /out/
Climbing in itself only marginally lends itself to meeting girls, as climbing always includes travelling with a group of friends. And girls rarely travel without male companionship. If they do they tend to stick to themselves (imx).
The girls themselves tend to be of high-than-average fitness.
>when casual (i.e. at parties)
Heavily depends on location and crowd. But in my experience many have little interest in /out/ and aren't very familiar with climbing and sometimes underestimate it as a sport. Some know Alex Honnold and even then have little interest in things /out/ related topics.
TL;DR if you want chicks become a gym rat. Works 9/10 times.
My 2ct from the top of my head.
Has anyone ever done the entire GDMBR?
I'm currently training for it and I'd like to hear any insights or opinions you may have.

/out/ i just found he best way to troll the fuck out of a deer
>deer can't see orange
>means you wear an orange jumpsuit, gloves, mask and shoes
>put on a headmounted light for extra keks
>lay down somewhere in the forest and patiently wait for your prey without making sudden moves

The heck? I was not aware of that.
Too many stupid socialmedia-scum are getting in to it now. At least were I am. Worst thing is they probably can't go on a trip without "documenting" it. Even worse more and more people who shouldn't be giving people advice, because of their (to some) obvious lack of skill and knowledge, are trying to make themselves into online-bushcraft gurus (this goes for backpacking as well to an extent). Probably up to 50% of the youtube videos on "bushcraft" are useless.
Even worse is that with a surge in popularity, and people being morons who don't know about LNT, I notice more and more trees randomly cut down, abandoned camps, and I actually think is going to become a problem for nature in some places.

Has anyone on /out/ ever hiked the Appalachian Trail?
I've always loved hiking, but the longest trip I've ever done was a 3 nighter. I'm going to graduating college soon, and I figured I would take the year off after I get my diploma and bike the trail. I'd train, of course, I'd have 4 months to prep before I'd leave. Curious if anyone here has done it and could offer their experience.
I did a SOBO section (Maine-Connecticut) in fall 2013. Avoid the Feb-Apr NOBO bubble.
>>1072350
Did you do it alone? I'd probably be doing this alone--no one I know shares this hobby with me.
I was told SoBo would mean less interaction with people's--it'd be a somber trip especially alone. NoBo was "easier" and also more populated.
did he say BIKE?
http://www.appalachiantrail.org/
The Appalachian Trail is designed, built, and maintained by hikers for foot travel. Motor vehicles are illegal on all off-road sections of the Appalachian Trail. >Bicycles and mountain bikes are not permitted except where the A.T. coincides for about three miles with the C&O Canal towpath in Maryland, the Virginia Creeper Trail in Virginia, in certain Pennsylvania state gamelands, and roads in town. Horses, llamas, and other pack animals are not allowed on the A.T., except along the C&O Canal towpath in Maryland and on about 50 percent of the A.T. in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park (where, by law, the route is open for horses as a historical use).
anyone know some good ones in PA, NY or southern Ontario for a 5-7 day backpacking trip?
You want a loop; and out n back, or point a to point b?
>>1071649
Loop ideally
>>1071644
PA has pine creek gorge, dont know how long that will take though
Alright Kentuckians, let's show off how great our state is
I have a friend that's into a lot of /out/ activities and I'm starting to fall in love with this shit too. Sadly, we tried kayaking and I was shit at it. I wasn't paddling right or something and anytime I'd try to take over for him I'd almost start to almost go in circles, and get frustrated. It was a 12 miles ride and I would say he did most of the paddling(75-25). Not sure when we'll be doing it again, but I wanted to know if you folks had any advice on how to git gud and not be shit anymore.

what that other anon said, just practice. also canoe>kayak

I bought a cheap guidesman hammock and being a dumbass I untied one of the knots, I've never went hammock camping/don't have any idea how to do knots.
You can't copy the basic fucking knot on the other side? Maybe you shouldn't be around a hammock, you might accidentally lynch yourself.

So, I was hiking in the woods with my gf and she had to poop, she left and she came back with a bug bite below her butt. I cleansed the area with a gel , no sting, she rubbed some alcohol in case of an infection and also applied some tick bite cream. Fast forward four days and the bite area has become red, she's had some diarrhea and high fever for the past 4 hours and even though we can't know if it's related to the bite we're quite scared because right now we're staying on a high altitude village hotel and we'll have to cancel our trip so we can get to the hospital. I'm on phone right now and I don't know whether we should call an ambulance or wait for tomorrow morning's bus to the city in 7 hours. Also if she got better we would continue our trip, should we sleep the night or cal an ambulance immediately?
>>1074312
If you're in america don't call an ambulance unless you are about to die
>>1074312
>diarrhea and fever
Have you hydrated enough?
How high is high altitude?
Could be some shit bacterias ingested due to bad hygiene. Keep her hydrated pref. with drinkables with proper osmolality of vital salts not just water. Mix sugar and salt in water (1:1, tablespoon) if you can't find anything more suitable.
If she starts to shiver/shake keep her warm and make drink more then goto doc.
I am not a doctor, this is what I'd do, guessing something bad in food.
>>1074312
I see you're in Estonia. Seems nordic enough to consider an ambulance. Just look up the cost online and see if the feeling of security is worth it. It sounds like your gf's just ill and having a nasty bug bite but i'm no doctor.
Can anyone spoon feed me on how I can do /out/ stuff when living innacity without a car?
In philadelphia....
>>1074127
It's like opening a window but more gross.
>>1074127
Take a train, then a bus, then walk an hour. You can thank me later.
Also, you can hike and explore the city, find interesting small pockets of nature in abandoned industrial areas or kajak on rivers.
I'm in the same boat and ours is a shitty, shitty boat to be in. You're going to have to make a 2 or 3 day /out/ trip for it to be worth your while.
