Let's see them. What's your favorite brand and number of gears? I like the coaster brake single speed.
Schwinn for brand, single speed is best.

They were so over-built. I have a late 70s Spitfire in my basement, but I need to true the wheel. I have a modern 29" (with Vittoria dirt tires - 58-622) cruiser that was a Wal-Mart special, but surprisingly light and well built.

mines better, and the best part about it is that its not a schwinn

I hate pinch punctures. I run 28mm wide tires at 90psi and I still get them. I'm 210lbs (95kg). Should I go up to 100psi? Any other tips?

On the road just go up to the maximum recommended pressure

What about light gravel?
of course 100. at least. get some hard gators or something thats rated for a good 115-120
Is it a good idea too ask a girl too go on a bike ride with me?
Nothing to hard we will just go on a trail or something.
Will she think it's extremely boring?
It depends on the girl, of course.
Also, how popular and crowded the trail is. Will you be able to ride two abreast, and be able to talk? Does she get enjoyment out of a ride even if you can't talk to each other? Is she competitive and will want to race?
There is no way anyone can tell you if she will think its boring without knowing anything about the girl. You are the only one who will be able to answer your own question.

Catbus
>>1081233
That's a big pussy
>>1081233
Curious as to what it's skeleton looks like.
What a miserable existence to not just be an employee of a mass transit system, but to be the actual vehicle. Having homeless people jerk off inside your ribcage, having it encrusted with vomit, split malt liquor, corn chip crumbs, ect into your interior fur, you desperately want to lick clean but you cannot fit your head into your own ribcage.
Also missing so many teeth, no doubt to reckless drivers. Very cruel and sad to be a catbus.
>>1081233
In the summer at night, if you feel a strong breeze out of nowhere, it's usually a catbus.
This is the saddle that my bike came with and fuck is this thing uncomfortable. I've never had to use padded cycling shorts but I immediately grabbed up a pair.
Is there a hands down most comfortable saddle or do I have to go out and buy a bunch until I find what I like?
You have to go out and test a bunch until you find what is good for your body. Plenty of shops have test saddles so you don't have to buy a bunch of saddles that don't fit you.
>>1079465
The latter, focusing on sitbone width
Also make sure your saddle is level with the ground or ever so slightly tilted, any saddle will feel like an ass hatchet if it's not properly set up.
>>1079492
What if the saddle is concave? do we want the ass part flat? Or the thin part flat (which makes the ass part tilt forward)?
With all these bikes that come to /n/ but never is a quadricycle to be seen here.

Huge noob. Just got my first bike and am wondering what kind of pump I need.
My neighbor gave me a Motiv Newport FS before moving that's in good shape apart from the fact that the tires are a bit deflated. I wanted to buy an air pump but got really confused after googling what kind I could use. I saw that shock pumps were a thing, and don't know if that's a better call than an air pump. I also noticed that I can pump air directly into the tire, but also through the air shox. Which one should I be focusing on? I appreciate it!
Shock pumps are for adjusting air suspension.
>>1085545
so I can just get an air pump for the tires and be good to go?
>>1085547
Yup. Floor pumps are more convenient for home (long hose, t-handle, larger volume fills tires in less pumps). But you should have a portable pump for fixing flats on the road.
What would I need besides the usual cycling related apps if I wanted to turn an old smartphone into a dedicated bike computer?
An old smartphone

Data connection Strava doesn't work off wifi
>>1085521
Sure it does. All you need is the GPS to work. When I forget my bike GPS and use my phone I usually put it in airplane mode to conserve the battery when I use Strava. It just won't upload your ride till it has some kind of data connection which can be wifi.
A decent battery in the phone is one thing you need.
Budget full suspension MTB.
Im thinking about getting the Polygon d6, which other ones would you guys recommend? I have a dirt jumper at the moment which I use on the trails (aswell as jumping) but i want to get a proper mountain bike for trails and a little bit of jumping.

It's a fine bike OP. I can't comment on how good value it is (not my currency and I don't know any other sites to look on) so you may be able to get better for the price but it's by no means a bad bike.
Where do you live? Get the YT Jeffsy for 2 099€. You have to wait a bit for it but it is one of the cheapest full sussers worth buying in my opinion.
I live in a shitty suburb with little biking infrastructure, but I'd like to start commuting by bike at least some of the time. Work is 9 miles away, so it's a bit long but doable.
Most of the way there is a bike path or I can cut through residential areas, but I'll have to go about .75 miles on a four lane road with a 45 mph speed limit and no shoulder or sidewalk. Any advice how to do this safely? People tend to speed around here and aren't used to bikes so I'm a bit worried.
pic hopefully unrelated
>>1085014
You either do it or you don't do it. The thing you should not do is do it and be nervous and shaky the entire time you're riding on a public road. Nervous shaky unconfident people get in accidents. You have to not give a fuck about the traffic, ride as safely as you can, and otherwise ignore the cars. Don't do anything stupid, don't make sudden moves, don't swerve around, hold your line like you're supposed to. If there's a line painted on the street indicating where the traffic lane ends and the paved shoulder begins, you stay to the RIGHT of that line (or the LEFT, if you're in a country where they drive on the left side of the road). Three quarters of a mile is NOTHING. I ride in the middle of nowhere for miles and miles all the time, where there is in essence no speed limit at all, have been doing it for years, and I'm still alive and have all my original bodyparts, so I think you'll be just fine -- so long as you're not a Nervous Nelly the whole time. To reiterate what I said above: If you're going to be all nervous and shaky the whole time, then don't do it at all. Lack of confidence will get you killed as fast as anything else.

>but I'll have to go about .75 miles on a four lane road with a 45 mph speed limit and no shoulder or sidewalk. Any advice how to do this safely?
Pick a different path
There's plenty of advice but I think the key ones are:
1. Visibility.
2. Intention of action.
Get some high-vis gear and some lights for dim weather (like the mornings). You can never be too well lit-up.
Intention of action: Make it clear to drivers what you are doing. Indicating, looking, and try and make eye contact with drivers at junctions.
You can find more advice online.
As for your path- 4 lane road... 45mph speed limit... Find another way. Seriously.

So Geoff Marshall, whom some of you brits may recognize for his Londonist videos, and his GF Vicki are visiting every station in Great Britain (they aren't getting off at all of them though, some stations only have one train per day, and I doubt they're as dedicated/autistic as the guy from tetsuko no tabi). The series also helps give an idea of what the state of British Rail is nowadays and they often interview commuters who use the rails, detailing their experiences as well as giving their opinions on the network.
Oh, and Vicki a cute.
Any anons following these two? Thoughts on the series?
I'm fucking loving it, but I want to fucking end myself every time they interview new rail employees, been rejected by every TOC with a Scottish base because I live more than 10 minutes from those bases on-application, so it's just personal jobhunt cringe sometimes
Vicki a quaint
I can't wait for them to get to the highlands but it's gonna be sad because by then the whole thing will be nearly over.
Also, looking at the older London Underground videos on Geoff's channel, I reckon Vicki hasn't aged one bit in like the last 7 years. How does she do it?

What kind of diesel shunters do you have in your parts of the world? Come share pictures and videos of these locomotives, in service or not.

Also, it's not shunting. It's called switching.
