Why can't the Japanese make trains without sticking out parts everywhere?
>>
>>1063971
Cause most of them are designed for a Cape gauge loading gauge, so to make them more roomy they don't internalize a lot of components

Nah it's just shoddy cheap engineering and design. The uk also has a small loading gauge but they never bolt equipment randomly to a flat roof, or make car ends 90 degree corners.

The TECO Line Streetcar System in Tampa, Florida is the proud owner of the only operational historic streetcar in Florida (the rest of the cars are replicas and the line was built in 2002). Pic related. The line is basically the best heritage line in the state outside the theme parks.

Lol

If you plan on riding more than 1000 miles per year, then I would get a bigger budget. Trek has nice aluminum frame bikes for around 1k. Emonda alr i believe. I would have bought one if i did not buy my fuji Roubaix for the same price

Some piece of shit 80's steel tenspeed off craigslist.

Try getting a job instead of being a skeezy parasitic NEET and then you can afford a bike that isn't an antique.

I moved down here (Arlington to be Specific) in '010 from New York City. I have a car and I also bike and use the metro system.
The question I have is simple..
How is possible that the drivers, traffic and public transit here are so absolutely god dam fucking terrible?

I thought nothing can beat NYC in traffic woes but then I realize how wrong I was, I can't imagine people having to commute to the Suburbs out in NoVa taking 2hrs to go 20 miles deal with that. On top of that the drivers particularly Maryland residents are pants on head retarded and tend to fit either the class of "refugees/immigrants", Clueless, new to the city and permanently oblivious and the aggressive "i'm a very important government worker and I CANNOT BE LATE!" Types. In the time I've lived here I've been rear ended twice both times I was fully stopped in traffic or at an intersection.

I like the fact there's a huge system of bike paths you can take almost anywhere in the area and that's a huge bonus. However once you get onto the open road drivers particularly Maryland drivers tend to go into autistic fits when they see a cyclist and/or swerve into the other side of the road even if you're practically riding on the fucking curb.

Las but not least the metro here is fucked and honestly run by welfare leeches and is wrangled over and neglected by three different jurisdictions (VA, MD and D.C). There was a months long "Safe Track" maintenance program which at any given time shut down half the system for weeks. The fares are expensive and distance based almost to the point where it's cheaper to drive even on a toll road and not take the train. It used to be a super clean, model system for the capital but obviously those days are over.
People who live here, how do you deal with it and know full well that it's not going to get any better?

at least the 7000 series cars are becomign more common

But if you look at google maps traffic during rush hour, you will notice the actual causes of backups in the city are located at least ten miles outside of the cities on the highways and off ramps way the F out in the burbs

also, Capital Crossing solved nothing, everyone is trying to access 395 from that part of town

>People who live here, how do you deal with it and know full well that it's not going to get any better?
Once you die inside, it's not so bad.

t. Fairfax County resident.
>>
>>1089573
Yeah good point the traffic isn't bad inside the city itself unlike say New York.

The outer suburbs and the hellish beltway/spokes.
It doesn't help in typical southern/zero planning fashion there are tons of subdivisions and unfettered building with no outlets so all the traffic is literally siphoned from capillaries to arteries with no alternatives.

What he said, I live in a old stone quarry/mill town with inter connected railroads that is all but lost to history. So I spend my time in the woods tracing out the old worker houses and paths. I should take a metal detector in there one day.

San Francisca/n/s...

1) Was the Key System considered an interurban or a rapid transit system?

2) In its final years, had the development of the metropolitan area rendered it obsolete, or did it still serve a viable route?

3) Would it have been possible for the city/state to take over and modernize it (e.g. buy new cars, get the right-of-way out of streets, subsidize it) rather than building BART from scratch?

>1) Was the Key System considered an interurban or a rapid transit system?

Interurban, like the Sacramento Northern and SP interurban lines running through the area simultaneously.

>2) In its final years, had the development of the metropolitan area rendered it obsolete, or did it still serve a viable route?

During WW2 parts of the line were rebuilt and extended to serve war industries and meet increased need for transportation. It was a viable route and with proper management and public support could have been maintained.

>3) Would it have been possible for the city/state to take over and modernize it (e.g. buy new cars, get the right-of-way out of streets, subsidize it) rather than building BART from scratch?

Maybe not the state itself, but a BART type arrangement within the region that also incorporated the Sacramento Northern lines could have easily been implemented if the will to do so was there in the 1940s.

Interesting cars. They look almost more European than American.
>>
>>1088354
I often wonder how American interurban cars would have continued to develop and evolve beyond the 1930s-1940s.
