They were so over-built. I have a late 70s Spitfire in my basement, but I need to true the wheel. I have a modern 29" (with Vittoria dirt tires - 58-622) cruiser that was a Wal-Mart special, but surprisingly light and well built.

Definitely overbuilt. But that Schwinn is circa 1957 and still rollin strong. Weight is not a concern on cruisers for me.
