Why does cup and cone exist when sealed bearings are better?
I've had my bike for a year and I've already had to re-pack them twice.
Because they're cheaper
>>1079182
It's an expensive bike that I bought. Should I just ride it into the ground and then replace?
Why aren't these being installed in every parking lot in the world?
Pros
>blocks sunlight from warming your car
>protects paint and plastic from dry rotting and damage
>cars protected from rain and weather elements
>bird shit is a thing of the past
>plenty of ground to cover for energy absorption
>protects the pavement and asphalt
>can funnel rainwater into collection tanks for reuse
>efficient as all hell
>lowers costs of power usage in nearby buildings
>"green" so it shuts the hippies up
Cons
>Might be initially costly in the short run
>???
What the hell is stopping us?
>>1078953
Already have these here in Johannesburg
>>1078956
Are those just awnings or solar panels?
I've never seen one in my life and my state's nickname is "The sunshine state" (Florida). Would benefit us tremendously but the people here are too cheap to spend on anything that doesn't offer immediate returns
>>1078958
That's because Florida will always take the most retarded possible approach to anything.
Hey /n/ates, just moved to cambridge for 3 months for a summer intenrship.
I got an apartment 2.0 miles away from my internship, what do you guys think is the best method of /n/ to take?
Torn between buying a bike, boosted board (so much fuckin money), and just say fuck it and walk for the 3 months (im kinda fat so it would do me good).
Keep in mind, I'll most likely leave the bike behind if I do that, I live across the country.
>inb4 boosted boards are for dweebos

Aero A-35, originaly built as an transatlantic special, rebuilt as an commercial airliner after the project of transatlantic flight was cancelled
you can see the flightpath on the hull of this plane. Note that Uzgorod was in that time part of Czechoslovakia (now it is part of Ukraine)
Hey /n/iteowls,
Do you guys have a personal formula of when to use a plane vs car vs train, etc.?
Specifically, I need to go roundtrip from Boston to Washington DC around 5 times (and spend only a weekend) in the next 3 months.
Breakdown (per roundtrip):
820 miles total
Plane - 3 hours - $160
Car - 13 hours - $120 (fuel + wear/tear + tolls)
Train - 10 hours - $150 (idk why its so much
Bus - 14 hours - $55
What would you do?
>>1080493
plane obvs
>>1080500
damn b ok
If you can't figure out that spending $100 more on a flight is worth it to avoid sitting 11 more hours on a shitty bus for a weekend trip you might actually be retarded.
The McDonnell Douglas DC-10 is a three-engine wide-body jet airliner manufactured by McDonnell Douglas. It features two turbofan engines mounted on underwing pylons and a third engine at the base of the vertical stabilizer. The DC-10 has range for medium- to long-haul flights, capable of carrying a maximum of 380 passengers
Yes.
How did they compare with L1011s?
>>1078755
Throwing a third engine on a plane's weakest point is insane.

hope you guys dont care about a different art pic, just wanted a change
so i got my first road bike and im gonna change my chain each 3000km. just hitted those numbers for the first time. its a 105 drivetrain.
i have no experience cutting/installing chains. im gonna get a 105 chain (and order a bunch of them at once, so if anyone knos a cool place, let me know).
question is. what chain tool should i buy? i have heard it can get a bit tricky to join links..
what tools should i avoid? dont need nothing fancy or portable as im gonna be changing chains frequently it should happen only at my house... any info helps thanks.
>>1078154
replace your chain when its worn out, not based on mileage
get a kmc chain
buy the cheapest chainbreaker you can find
anyone here uses the sigma rox 6, 10 or 11?
any real feedback? is it good if you just want speed, cadence and hr info? is having routes, strava or other fancy stuff really a plus when bike riding? i just want to train and HR info is the most important right now
Anyone else hate that complite bikes cost less than building same exact bike yourself? If there are some parts you want to change you need to do pointless work trying to selling them when you could just buy everything you want and roll with it. Like DIY guys being punished for doing something themselves. Guess assembly costs are nothing compared to buying shitloads of components directly from manufacturer with cheap price.
>>1077772
>Guess assembly costs are nothing compared to buying shitloads of components directly from manufacturer with cheap price.
Welcome to capitalism
>>1077798
i heard the bike assembly companies getting the same parts for like half price. it goes beyond bulk purchase it's also the retail costs of course but the oem parts are sold at a deliberate markup for the non contracted partners or merchants. it's all part of what keeps bike manufacturers alive.
only parts you need to buy from big manufacturers are the frame, the fork, the BB, cranks, rims and hubs
if you buy the rest from your local bike shop that sells chinese stuff it will be cheaper
ITT: Greentext your Strava experiences
>try Strava first time
>idk how it even works lol
>testing it, get a few 0km "rides"
>do it for real
>start ride
>half hour into ride one of my rear lights falls off
>stop to get it, off my bike walking back to find it
>realize that Strava, unlike cycle computers, does not stop recording when standing still
>FUCK FUCK FUCK it's making my fucking average go down
>stop Strava
>resume it then keep riding
>ride another 2 hours
>near end of ride on busy multi lane street, lane splitting riding between the two lanes of cars going faster than the cars and passing motorcycles, fun as fuck
>finish ride
>end up at 31.3 km/h average
>should have been like 33 but fucking Strava records when I'm standing still
>unintentionally got 10th place overall in a segment, wasn't even trying for segments or realize that spot was a segment, was just riding lol
>on the spot where I had to stop to get my light, it was during a segment that has over 5k attempts, and I placed over 4k.. slowest 20% or so because of my light falling off
>kinda want to go try to get some KOMs now
>kinda want to set my profile to female and get a bunch of female KOMs even though I'm not female just for the lulz
Pic unrelated, but I did pass a fred that looked kinda like pic related during my ride today.

What does /n/ think of LA Metro Rail? I wish it actually covered this much area, but they're working on it. I actually use it more than the San Diego Trolley in my hometown.
Also, post transit maps done in the style of other systems.
Here's the Tokyo subway(s) done in London Underground style.
>>1080269
that fantasy map is like 10 years out of date. It also looks like its drawn by someone with no clue about LA geography.
anyone have the full size version of pic related? new york in DC style
>>1080280
Yeah, I think it's actually an Australian who specializes in making subway maps in the style of the Tube map.
Would you rather have a shitty bike and live somewhere with god-tier cycling infrastructure, or have a god-tier bike and live somewhere with shitty infrastructure?
The former, then I fix my shitty bike
>>1079286
god-tier bike
if I can't enjoy it then nobody can.
Shitty bike + god-tier cycling infrastructure. I just want to get around at faster than walking speed without riding the subway or having my bike stolen.
I'm gonna buy a bike helmet
I have been riding for many years without one and I am finally going to get one.
What is your favorite? I have a big head and I'm 6'5 so plz no bully about the head size it's proportional
I mostly do long rides on a touring bike and am getting into beginner MTB trails on a "gravel" bike
Measure the circumference of your head and buy a helmet bigger than that. Quite a bit bigger, since they adjust for smaller but not for larger.
I use a high-vis helmet because then it's dual purpose. Make me easier to see and also protect my head- and the being easier to see protects my head too. For pure functionality I don't see much better.
>>1078191
Thanks
Is there a reason not to buy a sweet MTB helmut instead of a roadie one ?
I am worried about air flow, but also thinking I'll want MTB helmet for the gravel... which will probably lead to buying an MTB in the next year
>>1078189
If you're over 18 you don't need one.
If you need a helmet for riding a bike
Chances are you're retarded and can't figure out how to ride
Which I'd suggest you just go ahead and wear that helmet 24/7
Everytime you're on a car/bus/train/plane and you turn your head and see this.
What do???
take a picture, post on 4chan with caption
"what do???"

I mind my own business like any sane, rational, reasonably courteous human being would, not take a creepy pic of it to post on some japmoots image board.
