Why don't we have particle beam and laser weapons yet?
because the m in e=mc2 means that kinetic energy weapons are best energy weapons in most situations and projected energy is a gigantic fucking hassle that does not have the staying power of variously shaped rocks being thrown at something.
Maybe at some point far in the future when we have superbatteries capable of holind 1.21 jigawatts in our pockets shooting particle accelerators at people might be practical. But ONLY because we wont have to locate a a suitable rock.
Tossing a rock at something is always the best bet at surely delivering an un-hamperable and reliable strike.
>>31626952
because technology isn't quite there to produce a reliable beam/laser/rail gun. Rail/coil guns are in testing but the "rails" IIRC are not strong enough to withstand more than a few shots before needing replacement, so i would assume the same for effective weaponized lasers, not sure on particle weapons tho.

My dad's got a cut down, beat to shit garand taking up room in his safe. Is it even worth taking to gunstop to try to get a cash offer, or should he just give it to the local PD and let them junk it?
Why not list it locally,
Or sell it to me for $100
Where do you live
>>31626927
You can sell it to numrich for parts
>>31626927
keep it on your wall, its always worth saving an old garand
Friend recently bought IO AK against my advisory, he seems to like it so far.
After inspecting his rifle barrel nut to buttplate,
I find nothing wrong with the rifle.
However, 2 weeks later I take a look at it again and one of the rivets has become severely corroded, just like the other POS IOs that I saw all over the show.
What the hell is wrong with these aks? Does anyone here own one, what do you think?
Why are these things suddenly bursting out in corrosive lesions?
I actually own one, however I haven't seen any issues with corrosion and I shoot the thing extremely regularly (1/week). That being said I live in a drier climate and keep it fairly well maintained.
Only issue I had was when I first got it, the trigger disconnect would just barely catch, causing the gun to not fire, but that was solved with some minor tooling. Idk, I love the shit out of mine, but that's because it's a workhorse. I don't need any fancy shit, and I don't need a safe queen. Hell the only reason I bought this one was because I wanted a vertical fore-grip, and couldn't find one of the wood stock ones.
I know that IO does put out lemons, and the final fit and finish isn't the best. Maybe I got the ONE good one.. But it's a fuckin AK, take a hammer to the thing and beat it into submission.
TL:DR idk, none on mine.
>>31627196
How many rounds through it? I'm wiling to bet money that AK will shit the bed before 2k rounds. Hell maybe 1k.
Could have bought a wasr for the same price or not much more.
>>31627196
Its just extremely strange because I checked that rifle head to toe, then suddenly without explanation, it corrodes within a week of owning it. Wtf?
And it seems as a general consensus that most folks who own aN IO like them. Only time will tell
do people like solid snake and splinter cell exsist, if so what are they called
picture related it's splinter cell
also what kind of missions do snipers do

What's the best gun for sewerside?
>>31626631
As in, in the sewers?
a cannon in which you are the projectile
1911 and flashlight
Sup /k. Gonna be getting a handgun soon. Recommend me one. I hear the Glock 17 and 19 are pretty much the best, but I've always wanted a 1911. Will be for him defense and concealed carrry.
>>31626624
>I hear the Glock 17 and 19 are pretty much the best
they're inexpensive, reliable, and ugly as sin.
>but I've always wanted a 1911
Then get a 1911

Fuck off
Hey /k/
I used to own a bunch of guns. Couple ARs, a .357 and a .45
A few years ago I got rid of them because reasons, but now I want to get back into the hobby.
My biggest concern is that living in am urban area there are not many clean, convenient, chill places to shoot.
I thought maybe getting the right gun will male me get into it again and find a decent range.
Budget is $500, requirement is that it be fun to shoot and as middle of the road as possible.
Pic unrelated, my car

a .22lr with colibri ammo and a bunch of tin cans
>make no noise at all
>tink tink all day long
>tink tink all night long
>get to fight with the local fudds because they are trying to grab ALL the .22lr in store
or you could get a used slav handgun
>>31626255
Colibri ammo?
Why would noise be an issue?

A and B are true for all AUGs, and C are true for the NATO versions.
>>31626234
It's the best refinement of the AUG so far, so there's nothing to really hate on about it.
Most /k/ movie this year

Dude looks like Ron Swanson before he let himself go
Watched it yesterday.
What were those sub-machine guns they sometimes used ?
>>31626150
the year isnt over yet, and the big movies dont start coming out til the end of October.
Anyone wanna recommend a .22 caliber pellet gun, preferably one with a one-piece barrel and underlever cocking?
My old Gamo CFX is starting to lose power and I'm tired of woodpeckers and squirrels shrugging off clean hits.
Also, general airgun thread I guess.
>>31625784
Why the heck would you shoot a woodpecker.
>>31625961
Because I have a wood-sided house and woodpeckers are cavity nesters.
>>31626829
Holy fuck they peck on your house? That shit must be loud as hell

/Round/ general
What round is your personal favorite.
Personally I like both the 7.62x54r and the 5.45 as well as Based 5.56.
Now what about best round in this picture.
>inb4 some fggt doesnt choose that sweet musket ball
>>31625695
>based 5.56
Kek
>>31625695
54r is probably my top pick, steel cored, and hard hitting fun. One of my absolute favorite guns shoots it too.
I like every round I shoot for their own reasons, everything has a purpose down to my pellet rifles. Sometimes I feel like hitting stuff hard as possible, sometimes I just like to see what 545x39's crazy ballistics does to a stack of wood panels or a critter, sometimes I just want to shoot while chatting with the gf or teach kids with pellet rifles.
I've read that the M39 is basically an improved Mosin Nagant rifle (better barrel, stock sights and something else too) and I thought that this would be a good "SHTF" situation rifle. Why I thought of that because the rifle itself is precise, reliable, and maintenance is basically the same as cleaning and disassembling a Russian made Mosin rifle.
its still a mosin. which means the steel barrel will rust after you shoot it. the m39 stocks are fragile. its common to see splits at the wrist and cracks in the top handguard. buying an unfucked replacement stock is an expensive venture. if its what you got you use it but as a shtf rifle when you have choices why?
>>31625664
why would your SHTF fantasy playtoy be a 12 pound 45 inch bolt-action that shoots a round that was outdated in the 19th century
I have one. It's a great shooter, it has a beautiful tigerstriped stock and a mirror bore. It's reliable, accurate, and nice to look out. But its not practical for that kind of fantasy scenario
>>31625664
If you can, get an AR-15 or AK, depending on where you live. AR in the states, AK will probably be cheaper in Eastern Europe, maybe Western as well.
While the rifle itself is good, it being a bolt-action rifle means your individual firepower will be greatly lowered in combat, unless you use it as a marksman weapon, firing from a distance and breaking off as soon as possible. It will not serve you well in close quarters, firefights or in chaotic situations.
It's certainly better than nothing though, so if you can't get anything else, get a Mosin.
Can anyone here tell me the price of this Luger? yop is 1900.
