Anyone wanna recommend a .22 caliber pellet gun, preferably one with a one-piece barrel and underlever cocking?

My old Gamo CFX is starting to lose power and I'm tired of woodpeckers and squirrels shrugging off clean hits.

Also, general airgun thread I guess.
>>
>>31625784
Why the heck would you shoot a woodpecker.
>>
>>31625961
Because I have a wood-sided house and woodpeckers are cavity nesters.
>>
>>31626829
Holy fuck they peck on your house? That shit must be loud as hell
>>
>>31626844
Yeah, and they've built a nest right on the other side of the wall from my bed.

No bird/squirrel will shrug off a pellet at over 400fps. You are shooting them from too far away?

Go PCP bro

Depends on how much you want to spend.
The cheapest I would recommend is a Walther Terrus for $250 - 12 foot pounds of .22 in a very nice package.

Personally, I shoot .177, but I should be picking up a tx200hc in .22 tomorrow.

If you want an underlever, i'd suggest either a tx200, prosport, walther lgu, or weihrauch hw97.

Also, with .177, you can use something like pic related (the .22 version is 19 grains and needs a 25+J rifle to be any good).

>>31627076
Hell, those are the exact pellets I use. Those, and some hollowpoints that are like 15 grains and seem a bit too heavy.

>>31627021
IDK what to tell you. Headshots are always lethal, but anything on the body has a good chance of not being lethal. Hit a squirrel behind the shoulder a few weeks ago, the thing falls out of the tree, hits the ground and runs off. Hit a pileated woodpecker at the base of the neck this morning, see a big puff of feathers kick up, and it flies away.
>>
>>31628182
unmodified nope
modified depends on the build quality of the air rifle but it can be done

What about a Hatsan?

I thought about going complete overkill and getting a .25 caliber Torpedo.

I definitely don't want to spend anything more than 400 bucks, not gonna pay full gun prices for something I'm just gonna plink off my back deck with.
>>
Got a raccoon problem. Looking for something cheap with a scope that will kill these fuckers. .25? Or something else?
>>
>>31625961
Because those fuckers always peck on the wall behind my head at 4:30 in the morning. I can never get to them in time. I also had a hard time explaining why a pissed off, half naked man was leaning out of a window with a pellet rifle in hand while shouting "where the fuck are you".

hatsan and gamo are decent low end guns, though there is a huge difference between a low end airgun, and a top-end one like the tx200.

I know for a fact, that both the tx200 and walther lgu won championship titles in HFT2 competitions, and even if you're just plinking, being able to shoot 1/2 inch groups at 50 yards is cool.

If you're going to spend $400 or less, i'd probably recommend a walther century, walther terrus, or walther parrus (a terrus with a magnum power plant).

.25 is not a popular caliber around here, so i wouldn't recommend it personally.

Generally, .177 has the biggest variety of pellets available here, while .22 selection is more limited.
>>
for those interested, American Airguner did a 4-part comparison between a .22 springer, and a .22 lr
(indoor and outdoor at 25 and 50 yards):

thinking of a .22lr home build! europé here, cant get hands on barrels.

>>31628285

>>31629606
got any more info on that?
>>
>>31628182
It's pretty common in shit countries like mine. You just need to drill it till the round is completely chambered. Since it has a rim it's a pretty easy job. You can use a nail as a firing pin. Since 22 is illegal and expensive for most people they simply convert it to black powder + shotgun primer.

I guess the barrel wouldn't last long though.
>>
>>31628182
nah air rifle barrels are of a bit smaller diameter i think, like .220 vs .222 but it wouldnt be too big of a deal with soft projectiles and you could ream the chamber out to .224 or a .22lr wouldnt fit
>>
>>31636264
>I guess the "barrel" wouldn't last long though
I should say rifling.

>>31636265
how does he ream it out if he cant buy the Tools in europé?

Some of the air guns available at my local Walmart. The Ruger is .22 and claims to be great for small game.
>>
Buy one of those .50cal air rifles, you only get 9 shots per refill, but it should fuck up anything upto mountain lion.
>>
I have been waiting for this for ages. What does /k/ think about the hw85k?
>>
>>31625784
The Benjamin marauder is a PCP gun, but it's a pretty good choice for what you want. They are accurate and powerful and come in 22cal. they also come suppressed, so they are super quiet.
>>
>>31638036
I've seen that Ruger at my Walmart and considered picking it up, anyone have any experience with these?

>>
>>31625784
With a modern about decent brand airgun with a cheapo scope you can hit a small rat with a lungshot at 25 meters. Zen and art of air rifles begins beyond that.

I have killed over the years at our farm yard (we have crop fields and grain dryers) about 2000 rats (honestlyI do not really know how many) from a distance of about 15 meters.

I don't go closer than that because they start to react to the threat. No need to do any sportivo masturbato shots either, for a same reason.

Gamo break open and BSA break open in .177 have been quite enough for those distances. The most common Gamo flat head bullets have been ok.

Ok, first thing - the Ruger claims the magic 1000 fps, but that's with alloy pellets.
A far more informative value would be the muzzle ENERGY, not velocity.

Strictly speaking, a EU limit (12 foot pounds) air rifle in .22 will take a rabbit up to 50 yards.

A simple fact of life is that Yankee (and spanish, and kebab) air rifles can't hold a candle to high end German, and British ones.

I would STRONGLY recommend a Walther Terrus over that Ruger, even though the terrus is more than double the price at $250.

Also - all those rifles come with a bundled 4x32 scope, which is practically a waste of money - low power, low light transmission, crappy lenses, simple reticle (most likely duplex/30-30)

Can't go wrong with Weihrauch.

sorry 'bout the crappy picture. My new beauty - Air Arms TX200HC .22 with a Hawke Sidewinder 10x42 30 SF IR 10x 1/2 mil-dot scope and Hawke mounts.

How are Hawke scopes?

I was originally gonna buy one for my CFX, but they were backordered on Airgun Warehouse, so I switched it with a Browning.

actually, the scope ends right over the breech. The front part is just a sunshade.

Sarcasm aside, I'm quite happy with the scope - this is the only sidewinder i've seen so far that has a 10x 1/2 mil-dot. Shame it's only a 42mm objective, but for $450 it's very decent. Pic related is a FT shilouette seen through a 6-24x56 sidewinder with a 20x 1/2 mil dot reticle at 10x magnification at 20 meters. Obviously, the light transmission is a bit lower with a 42mm lens, but still very clear picture - miles ahead of the cheap 4-12x50 BSA I have on my LGV.

Bump; just got a powerline 880 today for kicks
>>
I shot a Gamo recently- and it wasn't bad. I have an 80's Webley Vulcan to compare with. I also shot a Ruger Airhawk and that was fine as well.

I'm thinking about rebuilding my 1970's BSA Meteor and swapping in a .22 barrel.
>>
fucking rain. Tookmy tx200 to the range today to zero the scope - got it to hit dead center at 25 yards before my fingers went numb (9 degrees centigrade here).
I can see why this is a championship-class rifle. Quite a hefty package, though, nearly 5 kilos with a scope.
>>
>>31636041
It can be done, specially with a break action, if you put a "pin" on the piston that will hit the back of the round.

Lots of people have done this here, sometimes cops have asked people to take a look onto their airguns because of this, when a fuckhead neighbor calls them because you are shooting cans on your backyard.
