Twill cotton shirts and Cold War rifles look snazzy and all, but you're a fool if you think the end times for modern civilization as we know it is the perfect time to hold a militant fashion show. Protip: you'll never see the ones who do survive. Because they'll either blend in with your average layman, or they'll leave society entirely to make their own, with blackjack and hookers. They're not painting a target on their backs with milsurp and replica rifles. They're buying "camping equipment" and "deer rifles", hoarding diesel generators and learning about self-sustaining gardens and sanitation without running water. Those guys likely won't die due to infection, starvation, or being an open target.

And speaking of open targets, and there's the small matter of you probably not being a Billy Badass like you want. Don't worry: I like to fantasize about it, too. But that's the brass tacks. You won't be some heroic OPER8R or Lord Humongous with your own story. Out in the wastes, everyone's about as important as an NPC, everyone's got a gun, everyone's aware of those two previous facts, and (most importantly) they are some mixture of scared/pissed about the whole ordeal. Unless you have prior experience killing (whether that be from MIL-GOV-LEO time or "extracurricular activities"), killing is going to be 1) a difficult task to accomplish, especially when the other guy's trying to do the same to you, and 2) an EXTRAORDINARILY unpleasant and psychologically jarring experience.
