It's not pig iron that's folded, it's an iron bloom. The folding ensures a homogeneous percentage of carbon throughout the iron.This doesn't make it extra special, it just makes the metal behave as a single bar of steel, rather than a bar of iron with steel pockets in it.
tl;dr, it's the only method of refining a (low grade) iron bloom.

Putting aside political and economic discussion for other boards, what does a superpower India look like in terms of global force projection and military technology? If they were to expand their naval reach outside of the Indian Ocean Rim, what nations would potentially provide bases and ports for them? What does India/China competition in Central Asia look like (the struggle for basing rights in Tajikistan comes to mind)? Most importantly, if science fiction comes to pass and the great powers make giant orbital platforms, what would India's be named?

I have a friend going to Russia.
He's cool with bringing back damn near anything as long as it's legal and I also just plain don't want to bother with anything that would require paperwork.
I've tried answering my own questions (what can he bring back without too much trouble and what'll cause problems) but there really isn't much about Russian export laws/what you can have as a souvenir.

The M39 is arguably the best built milsurp mosin one can buy. If you want a good shooter get an M39
Other then that i personally am a fan of the original M91 design. I like the irons better for my eyes but since they are older rifles ( unless you get a fin barreled one ) its harder to find a good shooter.
Any mosin CAN be a good shooter its just a matter of inspecting it well enough and if you can get a chance to shoot before you buy do that.
