Give me your experiences with Mausers /k/
>>31918540
Shitty, nasty and cheap rifles. Bought a turk mauser and it was the worst purchase i've made after a colt 1911. Suppose I was spoiled by my Mosin as i've yet to find a rifle that compares.
I want to buy a german K98K. Is that this shitty too?
>>31918540
I have shot alot of Mausers, Most of them honestly feel pretty much the same. I have two M1903s and a Gew 98 and they feel and shoot the same. The only Mauser style rifle that really stands out was probably the M1917/P14. All in all they are really fun to shoot.
The Army got an Iron Man prototype suit and they want you to outfit it with weapons. Bring out the best, /k/.

Duel deagles and barret 50 cal
What is a decent amount of magazines per firearm? Because one extra mag clearly isn't enough, but buying 200 is expensive. Where's the right balance between cost and a quality amount?
>inb4 you can never have enough mags
I agree but some of us are poorfags
Approximately 10 quality spare magazines per firearm is a good round number and not too expensive.
I go with 3 tho I only shoot at ranges so I don't really need more than that.
>>31918312
It depends. I test all my mags and usually if you have 10 magazines you have 2 or 3 that are kinda funky. Label them and sell them, then i need to buy 3 more to replace them, then i find another 2 that have something odd that could be a problem so i sell them, then you need a few more so you again are left with a couple that dont work 100% as well as the others and so on and so forth. It never ends.

Air-to-air performance
Impact on pilot skill:
>Pilot is the most important part of the system. Therefore, most important factors in fighter design are ones that directly affect pilot: sortie rate / maintenance downtime, operating cost, user interface and reliability. In all air wars to date, it has been shown that good pilot in bad aircraft will beat average pilot in excellent aircraft. In 1939, some Polish pilots became aces in open-cockpit biplanes. Early on during Vietnam war, USAFs F-4s achieved negative 2:1 exchange ratios against NVAF MiG-19 and MiG-21. Once USAF put some effort into pilot training, they started regularly achieving positive 2:1 exchange ratios. This is despite the fact that in dogfight, angles fighter (MiG) has no inherent advantage over the energy fighter (F-4) – or the opposite.
>Rafale can fly 2,7 hours every day. Direct operating cost is 16.500 USD per hour (cca, 17.000 USD when corrected for inflation). F-35 can fly one hour every two days, and has direct operating cost of 30.000 USD per hour.
>Pilots have to fly at least 30 hours per month, preferably 45 hours. Rafale allows up to 81 hour per month in the air (likely somewhat less), while F-35 allows 15 hours per month. However, in such situation direct operating costs per hour of flight will be 1.336.500 USD per month for Rafale and 450.000 USD per month for F-35. For the same price, Rafale will fly only 27 hours per month, which is less than minimum requirement. These are all best-case scenarios, however – average peacetime availability rate is 33% for Rafale and 28% for F-35A, though Rafale achieved close to 100% availability rate during combat deployments.
1/?
Situational awareness:
Rafale’s primary air-to-air sensor is OSF optical sensor suite on top of the nose, and has 80/130 km detection range against subsonic targets. It consists of IRST sensor with 40 km identification range and video camera with 45-50 km identification range. In addition, it has RBE-2 radar, two fisheye IR MAWS sensors and 4 RWR sensors. MAWS and RWR sensors provide spherical coverage, and can be used to generate firing solution. It has framed canopy providing 360* horizontal and 197,7* vertical visibility, including 16* over the nose, 1,7* over the tail and 27* over the sides, with a maximum of 54* over the side visibility. RBE-2 has 120* angular coverage while RBE-2AA (AESA) has 140* angular coverage.
F-35 has a single IRST sensor (EOTS) under the nose, with 160 km detection range against low-flying targets in afterburner. It is a staring midwave (or dual-band) sensor covering low frontal sector. Additionally, its IR missile warning system (DAS) can (?) be used as IRST. This system provides spherical coverage, with a caveat that it is short-ranged when compared to full-blown IRST systems. It also has radar and RWR sensors. It has a sunk, framed canopy providing 340* horizontal and 188,5* vertical visibility, including 16* over the nose, -7,5* over the tail and 26* over the sides, with a maximum of 40* over the side visibility.
2/?
Overall, both aircraft have similar raw situational awareness. Rafale has the advantage of having air-to-air optimized IRST and 360* cockpit visibility, while F-35 may have spherical coverage with DAS providing optical feed to the pilot, assuming that helmet issues are solved. However, pilots still prefer not to use the helmet, as that way they can see with far more clarity and depth perception than what helmet allows. F-35s EOTS may be capable of detecting aircraft at 160 km from the rear, compared to 130 km detection range of OSF, but since aircraft detected was low-flying F-16 in afterburner, it is hard to estimate wether it will be able to detect aircraft from that distance at higher altitudes if it does not engage afterburner; answer is most likely no. Its radar is also optimized for air-to-ground work.
However, data presentation is just as important as data collection when it comes to situational awareness. Rafale’s Human-Machine Interface is similar in concept to Gripen’s, being minimalistic so as to avoid potentially lethal data overload. On the other hand, F-35 presents huge quantity of information, typically in numerical form, which can easily overload the pilot. End result is that Rafale has significant advantage in situational awareness over the F-35.
3/?
Conclusion
Rafale is significantly superior to F-35 in air-to-air combat (both WVR and BVR), which is logical as it was designed primarily for air-to-air missions. In air-to-ground combat, either can be a better choice, depending on mission requirements.

Fucking Germans. What are other examples of guns, vehicles, etc that were so advanced that they were still top of the line hardware despite new stuff coming out.
Basically the same performance as P-47 Thunderbolt in its bomber spec.
What was the point?

FG 42. Open bolt/closed bolt operation. Light for what it is and included a tripod, optic and tri angled bayonet. I'd say it was far ahead of it's time.

so far ahead of its time it wasn't mass produced and is a piece of shit rifle over all. Only to be praised by spergs who think germany was the good guys.

what's the exact metric for measuring a certain army/special forces' power/competitiveness? (i'm talking about infantry)
does such thing exist?
let's say the average US grunt's powerlevel is 1.0
what would a russian soldier's be compared to that?
what would a Seal or a green beret be compared to that?
Sup, /tg/. Basically, at an individual soldier's level, your upbringing and training are your rolls for ability scores. The better your upbringing, the more fit and intelligent you will be. The better your training and amount of combat experience, the better your combat skills and discipline will be under fire will be.
>does such thing exist?
No.

What's the best gun for a shooting spree?
>>31917834
double barreled shotgun
>>31917834
.32 pocket pistol
>>31917840
Easily the best choice.
I mean you have twice as many bullets as in a single barrel shotgun.
I want to buy some kind of short two-handed gun.
I got most other "gun types", have pistols, have an AR (regular 556, not one of those pistol cal and/or armbrace deals). Got a long marksman battle rifle cartridge deal.
I don't own a single carbine or shotgun or anything like that though; and I kind of want to get one. preferably something short. I'm not looking for a pistol grip stockless pump shotgun or an armbrace AR pistol. I'm not looking for this to be a primary HD gun or anything, I've been kind of looking at those .22 MP5s clones (I'd be more than happy to get a 9mm mp5 clone, but none of my lgs ever seem to have any; just the 22s), or maybe an m1921 clone or a civilian vector carbine.
Are there any interesting shotgun options I'm not looking at? I'd like to get a shotgun in general since I don't happen to have one at the moment, and there is a nearby shotgun only club that I've never went to because I don't have one. I just want to get something interesting to round out my collection something short and shoulder-able.
9mm SBRs are a lot of fun and very cheap to shoot, even if rifle caliber carbines have them beat in utility. MP5 clones especially are great, and not that expensive if you don't mind giving money to sandniggers. The .22 versions are just a shadow of the real deal and """pistols""" are gay af, but an MP5A3 semi clone is the shit. Not to mention there is so much aftermarket for these things thanks to their popularity with LEOs that they can pretty much give ARs and AKs a run for their money.
>>31917830
>I've been kind of looking at those .22 MP5s clones
i have the walther mp5, it is A+ quality but it's still only as fun as say a ruger 10/22. I bought it for the aesthetics
If you want fun the enlightened path is a manual action of some kind. Bolt, lever, pump, straightpull, whatever. Yugo mausers and the mosin m39 carbine are handy. Check out the rossi m92, 357 lever action.
>>31919064

What's the etiquette for a shooting range?
Say the guy next to you pulls out his deagle deagle and mag dumps, is that considered rude?
a bit, yeah
I'd only call that rude if there were other open booths and he chose the one right next to me.
>calling range cold every two shots
>shooting any targets that aren't their own
>flagging
>kids running around fucking with shit
>starts shooting while others are down range
I go to a public outdoor range with no RO so shit can get pretty retarded.
Personally I don't care what the next guy does so long as it's done safely and in his lane.
People who bitch about mag dumping and large calibers at a gun range are the same people who bitch about standing and cheering at a sporting event.
I'm scared, will there be terrorist attacks at the polls on Tuesday? What do we do?

What do you think would be the best everyman gun? Something that is reliable, easily accessible and affordable enough that your average person can and should have in their home.
My vote is the Mossberg 500 and its variants.
>>31917426
Completely depends on what that average person wants to use it for.
Are they defending their house with it?
Are they going to hunt? If so, what range and animal?
What about house layout and neighboring houses? Do they have to worry about over penetration? Do they live in an apartment complex or a shack in the middle of nowhere?
Are they going to carry the gun? If so, concealed or open?
Or do they want it to also function as a truck gun?
>>31917426
>Mossberg 500
>affordable
>mfw I can't afford one.
>>31917441
I work at a factory earning $12.50 an hour as a temp (instant hire, always hiring) and I can afford a Mossberg 500, hell I recently built a $700 AR. I worked at Wal-Mart part-time in the past for $9/hr and I was STILL able to afford a Mossberg 500 ($300).
How fucking poor do you have to be to be unable to afford a $300 gun? What do you do when any random expense (car part breaks, unexpected bill, ticket, etc) hits you? Can you also not afford a Maverick 88 which is just a poor-mans Moss500?
