Any opinions on free drawing programs? Krita, Gimp, OpenToonz, etc.? I've used some terrible programs but some are really decent.

I'm a beginner and use firealpaca, it lacks some features but I like the simple pen and pencil configuration.
>>
I use Krita and it seems to offer pretty much everything you might want, although the learning curve is a little steep and the available documentation isn't great.

Before that I used GIMP, which is also pretty complete but doesn't work with my current tablet.

I really love OpenToonz.

I pirated every-fucking-thing else. Why don't you all just do the same?

To be frank, I don't care much for this piece.

Thanks for asking. I dont believe its coincidence that I made this after two weeks of not spending time with friends and family. I didnt intend on placing a spade in the center when I had the idea a week ago. I didn't know what to call it until this morning. But I think it completely reflects my state of mind. I havent made a piece of art since middle school.

After visting /adv/ and /fa/, I'm coming here for advice senpais

After three years of thinking about it, I finally decided to start tattooing myself, and I have gained a weird fascination with characters (especially animals) from old children's books (pic related, which will be my first).

Unfortunately, I don't have any experience with research in this branch of art, and I was wondering if you could give me pointers for books, drawings and art styles I should look out for desu
I'm quite /fit/ so I don't have the issue of making tattoos look bad

thanks uwu

pic is neat. Just google animal tattoos or something. Basically every tattoo artist is on instagram search there

That was probably the most useless reply I've ever received, even /fa/ was better at this

I'm no artist, picture attached is an example of a placeholder character graphic for a game I'm making called ConsolePilot. I would be commissioning artists per work, this is to be discussed more later. I'm also working on a rpg maker game (rpg maker mv), I will need a gritty sci-fi anime cg and pixel capable artists for that project as well. I am launching a new development community for these two titles and future projects.

Pay will be good and royalties for an artists share in profit are negotiable. Legal work would be expected as we neared release of either title or any future titles that an artist might contribute to.

Questions? Ask away.

dev forum: castledogs.boards.net
discord server: discord.gg/QY3aE

If you plan on sticking with us and getting a line of commissions done with us please join both and lets get to know each other and the rest of the dev team.

Bring example work if possible.

I rake in enough off my salary to pay for artistic work with 300-400$ a month. I plan on running a kickstart/fund me or similar to help expedite paying for commissions.

I'm putting a lot of my own resources into the development of these games.

my point was that he painted his first painting when he was like 27

Is it worth it to bail college and focus on art?
I'm 21 years old and getting real tired of education, not to mention from a 3rd world country where engineers make $400 a month on average. I'd rather just focus on art and live on commissions for $100 a piece.
What do you guys think? yay or nay?

it might be kind of a meme but you dont live all to often, better take some risks and have a chance to do what you love imo.
>>
Worth it in what way?
Financially it's a fucking retarded decision. Especially if you've already invested in a year or two of college.
If you're going to decide to be a professional craftsman in any craft you should already be good enough to make at least a bit of income at it, so that when you take the plunge you already have a bit of a setup. Going full NEET when you aren't even good at art is a seriously retarded decision in almost every way, hone your skill as an artist while making a living and then try to become a professional when you're good enough to know you can pull it off.

Or follow your dreams or something I guess, if that's what you want to hear.

Depending on his college it may be wise to quit.

If his tuition will rack up $50k/yr in debt he might want to get out now. I did and I'm grateful every day that I left.

I attended a Comp Sci degree for 3 months and dropped out. In that 3 month period I accumulated $15k in debt sitting at an 8.9% interest rate.

It took me 4 years to pay off debt I accumulated in 3 months.

College is great if you need it. But in America 2016 it's a racket. I would never recommend college for anything that you can teach yourself.

I think it's basically good enough that /ic/ isn't going to give you much useful advice. I can't really see any flaws at this stage except maybe the focus of the image isn't clear enough and it's a fairly dull concept overall.

I'd recommend pushing it to the next stage, filling in the detail. If you can keep the standard that you have put into the rough going all the way to the end, this should be a professional level piece.

Hi! I've wanted to do this for a long long time, so here it is, I guess! I'm gonna start a skype group for people from /ic/ looking for new friends to either help with critiques, or even study buddies. The only thing I ask though, is that you're remotely interested in art and improving your skill. The last thing I want is a circle-jerk of people who wish they could draw and do nothing about it. I'm willing to host some video calls if anyone would like, too, as i draw better while I'm talking to someone.

skype: htmlgoth
just tell me you're from /ic/ in the request and i'll add you to the group!

As a young man with not much money lining his pockets, i look for good ways to avoid forking out currency for things that can be found for free. As such, for my Note 5, i need a new app for drawing. I currently use ArtFlow and have tried MediBang Paint. I enjoy ArtFlow, but it restricts making more than 2 layers, 90% of brushes, and the amount of undos. The layers part really grinds my gears. Could i get any help here? I have enjoyed this art board very much, and look forward to further interaction with you guys.

If i might add, my friend has access to a full version of an app called something along the lines of Clover Paint, which requires money for that but he's said that he got it for free. He's kind of a dick about helping me out, so if anyone has insight on that, it would be very much appreciated.

I'm actualy ok with these modern art hipsters calling actual artists that try to improve their skill 'ilustraturs' instead of 'artists' to seperate themsellves from people with skill.
and there is always something to laugh at aslong as these snowflakes are around.

I don't like how the term "artist" is used these days. More than anything it's used for musicians I think which doesn't sit right with me

Also im more of an mediocre artist btw

I've an art problem

I can't make money from my art which I can cope with. I have met somebody that tried to help me, and they did, but there's an embargo on my head. This person still wants my art, which is great, it has never been appreciated before (well, when it was it always turned out a poor show).

They do not have a great deal of money so I'm happy to let them own my art for free, I re-touch old works so they are fitting for their new owner, the slightest changes.

They do want to pay me for my work, and this is where it goes queer.

The dream was that they could be an agent for me or share in our success which never happened. It's a delicate position when they still wish to collect my art personally.

And now I am being accused of being fraudulent towards them.

I don't want to break off our friendship but I could potentially be putting them at risk.

And you would say ...
