Hello /ic/, what do you think of my work?
>>2629735

Why can't I learn to draw? Whenever I try, whether from the sticky, Loomis, or another source, it just makes no sense to me. It feels like there's a bunch of assumed knowledge that isn't explained. And yet, these are things recommended for complete beginners. Fun With a Pencil is the best example of this: You're told that you only need to be able to draw a lopsided circle, but then immediately it's assumed that you understand where everything on the head goes and why.
What is wrong with me? Am I retarded? Am I just expecting to understand this stuff too quickly? What should I do? How can I learn to draw? Can I learn to draw? Please, help me.
>>2629386
Pic related. You're not retarded. Anyone can learn to draw.
For real though, FWAP isn't great for complete beginners for the reasons you stated. Have you tried Keys to Drawing?
>>2629386
You might have learning difficulties.
>>2629386
Start with keys to drawing and then norlings perspective book. Then you should try fun with a pencil. Also how long are you spending on drawing op? I found /ic/ back in hs and went through drawing on the right side, keys to drawing, nor lungs perspective book, and fun with a pencil, but guess what? I didn't really get all that good or even learn that much because I wasn't drawing enough. I'd run through entire books in a few weeks/ sometimes days and only do every exercise once without trying to understand the underlying concepts. A big part of learning art is just grinding over and over again While trying to understand what you're doing wrong.
Keep it up if you feel up to it OP
I know what you're thinking currently; as a fellow artist... i cant say i havent thought the same:
"You know.... i like drawing i guess.. but its a shame theres so much math/measuring/and science involved"
what if i told you that was mere pretension? and that you already have superior spatial understanding.... you're just not tapping into it.... allow me to explain.
The body.. anatomy... there are those among you who say... careful measurements and study are required. YOU ARE WRONG.
Allow... me to "explain". You see, at the end of the day there is only one concept of human "anatomy" that you have to understand.
rotational joints. we are made of them. -_- place the joints first and you will place the correct proportions one hunred percent of the time, correctly.
simply put, without concern for the forms, draw spheres representing the joints... "elbows, shoulders, wrist, knees"
you will surprise yourself with... well... the "results".
as an example of this technique, look at the cool painting i have created -_- as always; dont forget to reply telling me if you enjoyed this post and whether or not you also intend to utilize this technique... just dont forget to give credit where... credence is due..
...
-_-
kill...
yourself...
-_-
what the fuck
This is "bait".
What are some unironically good youtube artists?
We had a thread like this a few weeks ago, but it 404ed before I went through it
pic may or may not be related
ross tran, miles johnston, dave rapoza, bobby chiu and level up are the first who come to mind, not youtube artists per se like sycra or sinix but their art and content is actually good
Proko
i personally do like sinix' channel, not the hugest fan of everything he draws but he showcases a lot of interesting things about technique and design
sycra is meme tier
compared to mostly everyone else listed so far
one of my pencil drawings, any tips on how to improve?
also genral pencil drawing thread
It's shit, next.
I don't think it's quite shit
I don't know much about pencils, but get some darker/softer ones so you can use a more full range of tones
I really like Basquiat.
What do you really like?

that he's dead
So raw.
What are some good art-related podcasts to listen to whilst drawing?
I've been listening to some of the Design Cinema stuff on youtube which is pretty interesting
https://soundcloud.com/the-collective-podcast is by far the best
https://www.youtube.com/user/Milesjart/videos very personal, great stuff
https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC913drfPuNipy7Wa6bynWLA/videos more formal but still entertaining
https://www.youtube.com/user/levelupsessions/videos don't need an introduction
>>2630478
awesome man, thanks very much
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=THEhCltWR5M
These are pretty decent.
So /ic/ there's something that is bugging me;
I'm using the program "Manga Studio" for the first time out of curiosity, I'm sort of a beginner and I saw that I could use the "3D models" functionality to have an easy way with action poses and such but... is it formative? In the long run using those models as a reference will make me a good artist? As of now, they could help me draw poses that I couldn't make up from memory, but I sorta feel like I'm cheating.
What do you think?
>>2630228
Studying fundamentals will make you a good artist. There's no shortcut.
>>2630231
Sure, but using models as a reference (not for tracing, I didn't specify it in the OP) isn't an important part of learning poses?
It's there to help comic workflow, not teach you to draw.
So I'm trying to understand how armor works for females in a more practical way. I want to avoid the boobs plates used for sexiness and try to make a design where the character stands out more than the armor but the armor still looks nice.
So I was wondering, what are examples of well designed female armor? It could be from any timeline. Preferably modern or fantasy.

>kjg does it with a pen and pencil
>i can't do a quarter of that quality digitally
One day.

This helped me a lot, so I'm resharing.
Pic unrelated.

This poor woman looks like she has a mouth full of mashed potatos.

Did you really feel the need to post such a shitty piece and make your own thread for it?
Here's a tip-
F U C K O F F
>>2627728
>A little sloppy in some of the rendering because you were drawing from a photo and drawing what you thought you saw rather than what was actually there
???
beginners need to stop giving critiques

What is currently the best place to upload your portfolio for other people to see?
Your mom's facebook, since she has more friends than you.
Tumblr, insta, twitter, newsletter (e.g. MailChimp) to build and maintain an audience.
Personal website doesn't matter where you put that.
