Why is it that on some colour wheels blue is the opposite of red but on others the opposite of red is green?

Don't worry everything looks bad

Draw what you see not what you think you see. Eyes aren't ovals with circles inside

Hair is the ultimate test against the so called symbol drawing. If you don't think in shapes of value/hue you'll never get it

There's a beginner thread too

The ones you are teaching don't have your powerlevel. Teach, and always be learning the next lesson yourself, and your powerlevel will always be higher than the ones you are teaching.

Is drawing really a skill that can be taught?

Have you guys seen the horrible progress made by people on deviant art?

Do some people have a limited genetic capacity to how good they can become?

I guarantee you if you took one of those people you're talking about and introduce them to Loomis (or something with a fundamentally sound learning structure), they'd reject it immediately.

You get out what you put into it. These people can learn - anyone can. They just don't want to.
>>
>>2624304
The problem of those deviantart shitters is that they get stuck in some own comfort zone and stop trying to improve.

You won't get better if you don't try to get better.

This guy probably draws casually and spends 2 or less hours on art not even every day (most likely he also took big breaks), so this seems like a proper progress for that dedication.

>Do some people have a limited genetic capacity to how good they can become?
Yep, it's called how many hours a day are you willing to spend on improving and how consistent are you with it. Also not staying in the comfort zone and constantly trying new things.

I like them, has a quality to them. but do you use photos, cause the skies are curved as if wide angle lens photo ref was used. read "alla prima" which you can find in the books thread.

waterfalls and moving shapes is taught as identifying the shapes which occur in the object and doing them with soft edges to imply movement. read the damn book lol.

The Pentel pocket brush is absolutely fantastic when you get one with good flow, I love how fine you can get but still lay a good wet line when needed.
As a cheap alternative, a waterbrush filled with Ecoline or fountain pen ink is nice.

I haven't tried any of the Kuretakes yet, wtb the #40 sable whenever I need anything else from Japan.
>>
The pocket brush is my favorite. You can get an incredible range of different strokes from it. You can go really fucking thicc and really really thin, you can get nice wet strokes but also a dry stroke if you go fast to get a cool textured look. The downsides are that it's hard as balls to control and the cartridges are non-standard so if you want new ones you need to buy from pentel(I refill mine with a syringe though, works fine, fight the power). Once you get used to it though, it's fucking amazing.

There are also the pentel color brushes which have a little bit thicker tips that makes them a bit easier to handle and have a larger ink cartridge that you can refill with a syringe(I got like 6 different colors and after I used them up I filled each with a different ratio of water and black ink and now I have great brushes for washes). They are great but I prefer the pocket brush for line work since it gives me better lines, they also don't look as nice as the pocket brush.

I'm not sure I would call the copic style tip a brush tip. It's more like a bendy felt tip, there are no bristles. It's pretty nice though and easy to use but not as much variation in lines It feels much more like a marker than a brush really. So it's a great tip for markers, not so much for inking.

I have an interesting issue that I wonder if anyone should shed some light on

how do you manage models?
I need a model or two for some stencil work I am doing, but I'm not sure how it really works

there are some issues I can forsee

the first is the anonymity of the models, if the identity of the model is known it could seriously detract from my work, but when I am using their likeness how can it be practically avoided?
am I expected to keep models identity a secret anyway?

the second is how do I hire a model?
by the hour? by the job? what is a fare rate of pay for standing still for an hour or two, or just having a few photos taken?

the third is how do I protect myself from a model who causes trouble after the artwork is done?
publicly denouncing it (if it's political or they just don't like it)
demanding I not display it
getting themselves known for something unseemly while the piece is for sale
how do I protect myself from accusations of impropriety?

maybe even things I haven't thought of
it might seem overly cautious but my work is primarily political and people would actively seek out my models for PR stunts

FAQ:
Something's broken, what do I do?

>The site is currently in the alpha phase of development and is being built around us as we compete so sometimes things go wrong. If you ever need any help send me a tweet @LavaFlake or shoot me an email [email protected].

What do we draw?

>Whatever you want. At this point there's no required topic so draw your heart out. Make sure you submit at least a half hour of work or you may get a low effort warning.

What's a low effort warning?

>The goal is to get people to draw every day by turning it into a competition. The low effort warning system is to prevent people from posting last minute, quick sketches when they're feeling lazy. If you receive a warning and it happens again within a month you'll be eliminated.

>This rule has been the cause of a lot of concern amongst newer artists so let me reiterate: this system is to police low effort content and has nothing to do with the quality of the work. New artists are more than welcome.

What happens if I'm eliminated?

>A new Last Artist Standing challenge starts every week. If you get eliminated then get it together and rejoin next week.

How can there be a new Last Artist Standing challenge every week?

>This is a way to let new artists join in and to allow re-entry for the eliminated. Every week a new challenge is started. If you joined on week 1 and make it to week 2 then your daily submission counts for both the first and second Last Artist Standing. If you get eliminated then you're eliminated from both challenges and you'll be able to rejoin next week.

Will I have an advantage if I join later in the week?

>The winner of a Last Artist Standing will be the artist with the longest streak. If you join on day 1 and last until day 85 then you'll have a streak of 85. If there's only one person left in the challenge when you're eliminated but they joined on Day 7 then they'll need to continue on for another week. If they're eliminated before then, you win.

I'm looking for an artist or artists to work closely with. I've been working for years on a story that I need to turn into a reality. Ideally we could turn this into a comic, but I wouldn't be opposed to animation. We would obviously need voice actors at that point as well as an entire team dedicated to editing, etc. I'm driven and seeking only those who would be willing to pour their blood sweat and tears into this. I've been sitting on this for quite a while fine tuning every detail I can and I'm finally ready to turn this passion project into something more. If your interested and want to work with me, send an email saying what you can bring to the project. Only those who are passionate about their work should respond. Get in on something epic

Pic isn't mine, I just fucking love tmnt
