it is difficult for me to tell if those artists are skilled or not. I don't see a tiny bit of anything I have learned in the books in their work, but it is so pleasant to watch. what is it?
are they just good animators but bad at anything else? I think I have seem other non animated stuff that gives me the same feeling but I'm not sure. I think that if you are a good animator and have expressive drawings you can get away with so much shit.
The illustration meme has consumed you
Not everything can be found in books, most of your 'learning' will be done with experience
There IS some value and aesthetics to be found experimenting and trying out abstract stuff
>>2628948
You forgot one, anon.

You gotta learn the rules to break the rules, Anon-kun. Always try experimenting, even if you think it's going to come out like shit.

I was thinking of selling for $15 but what do you guys think it's worth? It's my own art
Better quality photo but someone told me to resize last time. Idk i'm on mobile i cant tell
the frame is probably more expensive than the drawing itself
>>2633719
It was $2, so probably
I was always wondering what this symbol means? If i added to the wrong threat correct me. It's from Bam Margera video and i can't found the answer when i google it.
Looks like the medallion auryn given to Atreyu in The Neverending Story.

Wrong board, bratva.
Anyway, it means eternity. It's just a more complicated version of an ouroboros.
How do you feel about mechanical pencils?
bittersweet, you're gonna be the death of me
i don't want you, but i need you
i love you and i hate you at the very same time
get a technical pencil
i use to use mechanicals, i thought they were ok until i started using a technical though.
Did this need a thread?
They're fine. I don't use them as much as I used to.
I've started using a technical pencil like >>2630191
Draw head first or body first when drawing or sketching a character
i usually try to draw head first so i can get the proportions right
>>2627244
Isn't first better for that ?
>>2627244
>>2627247
Body first**
Are you a bad enough dude to get hired as a digital artist for Lisa Frank?
inb4 job posting is old

>5-10 years experience for a job that will probably pay peanuts
go fuck yourself with your own shoe Lisa
I could easily draw neon colored animals being whimsical with stars and rainbows and ice cream everyday but don't qualify
Why does everyone seem to have such a hard-on for Marko Djurdjevic?
I mean sure he's decent but he hardly improved over the years and he's quite limited in his designs. Also he appears to suffer from delusions of grandeur nowadays. Is it just his rockstar attitude?
Great sense of design, good shape language, excellent pencil work, solid dynamism. Plus he only works from memory. Yeah, he can't paint as well as some of his collegues, so what? Get a grip
>>2631357
Where did you get that high res...Marko?
>>2631400
His lineart is good, sure, but has he ever graduated from his original Degenesis stuff?
>>2631403
That's not high res, are you blind? It's pixelated as hell.
All the previews they posted were large but low quality.
Does anyone here have experience with Schoolism?
Thinking about joining it.
IDK but I just got pic related and so far it's been pretty great

pirate it if you can
I just realized I can't visualize. When I draw I build everything proceduraly, deducing how things should look like. But I just can't create an image in my head.
Are there any sort of exercises to increase visualization powers?
make a tulpa
>paper in front, pen in hand
>close eyes
>slow deep breath
>imagine figure in mind's eye
>keep figure in mind's eye
>especially the corners
>suddenly open eyes wide
>head shaking from focus
>"i see it...!"
>follow the lines projected by your mind's eye
>>2629423
>OP can't visualize
>step 1 of tutorial on how to visualize: visualize a figure
what
i'm 19 and i want to draw stuff like pic related, this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AfbNS_GKhPw, cute pixiv girls, and doujin illustrations in 4 years (basically, when i leave college [studying cs, i.e. totally unrelated])
how many hours a day do you think i'll have to put in? is it realistic for 4 years? is it too late if i never took art classes since i was a baby?
i've designed some stuff for school that my teachers and friends thought were cool, but i'm guessing that means jack shit here for drawing figures anyway
>>2621956
>my teachers and friends thought were cool
Don't do that. Don't trust them.
>>2621956
>I'm 19
>I want to draw cute pixiv girls, and doujin illustrations
As if enough faggots don't already do this? Kill yourself TBQH.
Why do white people want to draw asian culture so much when they aren't asian? If that's what you want to do then 4 years is about right if you put in at least 5 hours a day.
Hey /ic/
Is there an essentials list of documentaries or books about art history or noteworthy artists?
>>2631533
Not really. Art history is so too broad to really encompass in any "best of" list, best thing to do is probably find an abbreviated history of the eras and movements like:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_art
And find out what you like, then look deeper into those topics.
>>2631533
not sure about what qualifies as noteworthy, but here's some stuff that i think i took something of value from watching.
yasuo otsuka joy in motion
a solitary mann

what do artists do all day?

Just finished this plein air carbon drawing. Any other fellow carboners out there?
>>2633106
I really need to get into carbon
>>2633106
Looks great. I used to do this kind of art, but with ink or graphite mostly. What exactly did you use? Those burnt charcoal sticks?
That looks really cool. A lil' question - graphite is made of carbon dust and clay, charcoal is anaerobically burnt wood ... and a carbon pencil is - what exactly? My retarded language uses the same name for both tools.
Can anyone tell me the name of this piece or where it comes from?
Please excuse me if this is the wrong board

>Stephen Silver - Why I Can't Support CTN EXPO Anymore
Any of you guys been to CTN expo in Burbank, CA? I went there last year and it was really expensive. The "fast passes" were pricey and weren't really fast at all. I still had to wait in line for an hour and a half for panels. It was my first time there but what I've heard from my peers is that it's a good place to network.
Burbank-type artists, especially animators, are disgusting. Their questions when you first meet them shows that they judge you based on how useful you are to them as a network.
>>2632445
Burbank artist/animator here, can confirm.
>>2632375
This is why you shouldn't let women run things.
