wow. that means alot. this piece is not yet finished. i will be adding pink, reds and white paint splatter, and finishing touches.
How do i come up with interesting subject matter for my art? I'm drawing at a level i feel comfortable with in regards to anatomy, perspective, etc but all my drawings are really boring and really have no meaning.Should i be reading about philosophy and psychoanalysis and shit like that?are there any good books you guys can recommend on this?
Lol,you call boring that subjetive mess of guts? xD
Boring are landscapes and seas,
but about some interesting subjets for art you could try for example something related with not very explored mythologies in occident like chinesse,or maybe,if phylosophy related you could try for example illustrating the Allegory of the Cave from your point of view, don't know
Make the mundane interesting.
Here's an idea I had but never will get around to: Lunch. Basically a set of fantasy illustrations, centered around creatures enjoying a midday meal. Think Norman Rockwell in scene design, each picture with loads of little details telling a snapshot story.
A dragon "shelling" a knight, heaps of bloody armour around it,with a disgruntled maiden in a cage looking on.
Dwarves on break from the mines, huddled together with their equivalent of lunchboxes contemplating breathtaking mountaintops as they joke among themselves.
A hobbit laying a feast before him, possibly with a guest or two,the table piled high with strange and exotic dishes.
Orcs at a rude barbecue, roasting Gods Know What on a spit in the midst of a sacked city, showing each other the spoils they've taken.
Fairies of different sorts savouring their varied favorites in a quiet hollow.
The list goes on,but you get the idea. Plenty of scope to stretch your talent and inventiveness.
what do you care about? think of stuff that matters to you in life

I notice us black artists get a lot of hate. Personally as the top artist on 4chan y'all need to at least respect me. Why hate?

Faces that have one half normally drawn and the other half in another style/diffuse into pattern
I'm always weirded out when I come on here and see people talk about making a living on their work and yet I so rarely see this mentioned as a path or see this type of work posted here.
Post some great ass illustrators, old and new.
Pic related, Victo Ngai is astounding.

unfortunately it is much more realistic to make a living doing other things such as smut and/or furry than it is to make it in the relatively classical form of illustration (not to put down smut/furry but to lament the loss of illustration as a stable market for income)
LMAO Jonas De Ro can't "Paint" for shit without his photos and lenses flares.

>when you mom tells you she doesn't like you drawing nudes alone in the basement so she tells you you have to either draw them while she is in the same room doing some else or only study from clothed reference.
Do you need to draw the nude form to get good or if you only intend to draw clothed figures can you just draw clothed models?

Why is your mom so insecure about your sexuality? I bet she also had you circumcised, too. Did you know they started doing that to kids to punish them for masturbating? (no troll; google it)
Your mom sounds psychotic.

What age are you?
start drawing nudes of fat, balding men and she'll eventually leave you alone.
> This got a Deviantart DailyDeviation
Holy shit, what?
>Deviantart sucks
Breaking news.
This does not surprise me.
This one too.
How do you artists get your inspiration? For me I like to listen to music or think of how certain things would look together (pic is not my art)
I go on very long walks. Doesn't hurt that I live in the mountains.
You can't create an amazing experience in a painting if you haven't experience something amazing.
It is said that JMW Turner tied himself to the mast of a ship in order to experience the full nature of a storm at sea

> Want to do commissions
> Need to set up pricing
> Don't know wither set price / work or price / hour
Problem is
> Doing SOLID linework over sketch can take me up to 35 hours for a piece
> Then have to add greyscales / colors which takes about 10 hours
Am I retarded ? Should linework take this long ?
If I charge per piece (Which should be low pricing) I'd be scammed, if I charge per hour, clients will think I'm scamming them.
Wat do.
Are you guys working to the point where you are underpaid too ?
35 hours is a lot for me, sounds more like the time for color and render a big work. You should try to improve that time.
Just put a price fair for you for the time you spend. If people are ask for commissions, they should know that you take a time, because if not, is not worth because they will expect things that you can not do.
It takes me a while to do linework too. Sketching is pretty quick but with lineart, I feel like it's more my OCD getting in the way. I see a lot of line art from other artists I like (pic related) and while the lines read well, when you pay close attention or zoom up close you notice they aren't completely flawless.

no it should not
in case you're not trolling you're probably having really bad habits and methods to drawing/painting and you should really start focusing on indentifying ways to solve problems faster, the simplest the better
btw, you can get more help if you post examples of your work process
Post any artwork that is full of epicness.

can someone explain why the highlight in the reflection is a lighter value than the one coming directly from the soap bottle?
>>2622323
Reflective surface is white, everything is lighter. Try again on a black sink
>>2622332
but should'n't the light still diffuse more after reflecting than if it was coming from the direct source of the highlight?
It's because the surface was already reflecting a bit of light so they add up
