What does /g/ use to back up their data and why is it superior to other methods of backing up like cloud backups? If you back up to the cloud you probably shouldn't be on /g/.
I copy files to an external HDD, then burn the more important files to optical media in case my external drive fails at some point.
>cloud
I wouldn't trust any third parties with my data.
I use a cloud backup service for my media. I have a RAID1 array in my PC for doubling up files. Any sensitive fies get backed up to a couple flash drives and are stored away.

Is it still worth buying the Xperia z3 compact at ~$250
Or would a $200-300 phone released in 2016 be much better?
It's for my old man. He would prefer a small form factor phone.
>dad
iPhone SE is the only choice
>>57193957
It's still agood phone but it's forever stuck on 6.0.1, which isn't the end of the world but it's also not the best.
I'm posting from it now. If you get him one get a magnetic charging cable and a magnetic attachment for the USB cable so he doesn't wear out the gasket on the flaps.
>>57193979
Yeah, probably the SE if he were to spend $400+
Should I get my CCENT/CCNA Security
or
Network+/ Security +?
Help me decide
Get the comp tias done first. Cisco tests require a lot of study time, and they assume you already have a pretty good base knowledge,
Comp tias are easy, can be studied for quickly, and are a decent introduction to the concepts.
Get them all you nigger.
First do CompTIA then Cisco.
>>57194101
CCENT and Net+ are basically the same.
>be 9 years old
>get computer with Windows 3.11
>managed just fine using it and DOS
>22 years pass
>9-year-olds today are surrounded by technology and yet are even more computer illiterate
>hell, even most 19-year-olds are, too
Why is this? Don't give me shit meme answers like "they're dumber".
they ARE dumber.
We had to actually put in some effort to use out devices, they don't.
>>57193889
consumer accessibility and interactivity. No one has to fix things up anymore. No one has to figure out how things work, for the father solves the problem either himself or by paying someone else.
>>57193945
this
first adopters are usually enthusiasts, then normies eventually get access to it
>first cars, had to know how they worked, or else you couldn't use it
>now, cars can run thousands of miles without any maintenance
>first computers, required knowledge of their workings, and very high cost of ownership meant only enthusiasts could obtain them
>now, easy and cheap as shit
Is the VR meme finally dead?
Not dead, but it will be just a gimmick for a long time. VR will only stop being a meme once we develop direct neural interfaces.
Cost didn't kill VR.
Impracticality and ending support killed VR.
Gamers want to sit down and relax, playing a game. Anything else is a gimmick
The fact that the simple act of plugging in an Oculus DK1 right now will literally brick your Windows 10 install beyond repair kinda says a lot about the future of VR
>>57194229
>plugging in an Oculus DK1 right now will literally brick your Windows 10
What the fuck? How?
What are some of the best G-Sync, Ultra-wide 3440x1440 monitors?
>G-Sync
god this is one persistent meme, so long-lived that i almost respect it
>>57193827
Well you have your choice of two monitors; one from Asus, one from Acer.
Both of them use the same exact panel. Go on, run along now.
>>57193843
Sounds like someone can't afford a decent monitor.
Yes, we know everything already is from China but in here we discuss the no/low-name cheap shit you see on Gearbest, AliExpress, eBay and similar sites.
Let's get our comfy on and find some cheap Winter/Christmas gear!

How does /g/ organize their bookmarks?
I've only just started after neglecting it for a few years
>>57193664
i use the firefox tags
ie: steam bash linux guitar ebooks vidya
1. Add bookmarks to the bookmarks menu.
2. If there are several bookmarks that share a topic (e.g. "Music", "Programming", etc) or format (e.g. "Wiki", for all those pesky interesting wikis that like to clutter the menu), group them into folders.
3. Sort alphabetically.
I don't, and haven't for like ten years now. I just have a really autistic memory of about when I accessed a site, so know where it is relatively on my (rather long) list
Hey /g/. I have an ISP question. No, this isn't the usual 'is my ISP compromised'. An autistic prick I know got a job at pic related. I'm also signed up to pic related as my ISP.
What kind of power do the employees have to view my shit? I don't want this cunt sending my browsing history to my boss, co-workers, family or friends so what do?
Also, the good: The ISP contract isn't registered to my name or to any of my close family members. My family, especially my dad's, equally paranoid on internet security so we practically have an 'internet lawyer' they'd have to go through.
The bad: I have a pretty common name and this dick isn't very bright so I bet he'll pull up the first John he sees. Said John might be enjoying a daily dose of dolphin porn or way, way worse shit than what my browsing data is.
>>57193629
I like Bleach and Naruto
>>57193611
At Comcast, probably enough to be very annoying. Anywhere else, I'm sure you're fine.
Idea because I hate Comcast employees : You could let him use your credit card number to buy a few things online and let him send them to his house, pretend you don't know him, then call your bank and bitch about the weird charges. In the US, that's enough to thoroughly keep him from doing you harm, and his position at your ISP could make it reasonable that he'd have access to your credit card information.
You shouldn't do that though. That'd be illegal and therefore immoral.
>>57193611
He can see the account holders last 4 of the SSN. He can see what speeds you are getting and what you are paying for. He can see when your contract expires. He can see your Video On Demand purchase history. He can see your modems mac model. Of its Comcast leaders he can see what devices are connected. Beyond that. Not much else.
Your browsing history is safe.
t. Comcast Employee
>install distro
>don't like the DE
>don't know how to change to another DE once I install it
>reinstall distro with new DE
anyone else do this?
dumb feelposter
Yes.
I don't want to have 2 DEs installed and I don't like uninstalling.
Once something is installed, the distro is forever tainted by it, only proper way to remove it is reinstall.
>>57193593
yes, if for no better reason than the fact that if you just install your de of choice you get a bunch of shitty defaults and it can be a headache to get it usable
Anybody here ever been to an apple hiring event or already an apple employee?
Is it worth it? I got invited to the retail hiring event but after doing some light research I found out that they do weird activities to weed out the antisocial people. I'm not a shutin, since I already have a full time retail job, but I don't think I'll be able to talk to a group of 30-40 more attractive and confident people without my voice continuously cracking, stuttering or something. This is why I'm asking if it's worth going to. Are the pay and benefits well? I make $10.10 an hour right now at my full time retail job that I hate.
>>57193527
do you want to be a fucking apple genius?
also if you don't have the social skills why the fuck are you doing retail
>>57193570
There are very little alternatives
>>57193570
I want to learn how to fix Apple products and such. I didn't apply to be a sales floor grunt who greets and schemes snobby girls and old wealthy doctors.
I do have the social skills I believe, but as I stated, I cannot do 1 on 1s with much more confident, attractive people that are clearly much better off than me in life. I feel like a slave. It's one of the reasons why I don't talk to a lot of customers in my current retail job in an upscale area.
I applied for the job because I have an interest in learning, progressing, and hopefully finding a career that I actually enjoy.

Considering that a large majority have people have more storage than they'll even come close to using, and considering the size of such a thing, why aren't manuals automatically installed with the programs? This includes OSs as well.
Even if you were to fill the manual with images you'd only count a few MB, and even if the manuals for something like Windows are many hundreds of MB, that would still be a better usage of space than many of the things in the multi-GB monster that is Windows 10.
So why is it that if you hit F1 to get help it takes you to a website?
And yes, I am aware of man-pages. But those are largely the exception these days.
>>57193438
So people can't own/distribute outdated versions of the manual?
>>57193481
Surely having the manual be tied to the version you have would make more sense. Besides, all it takes is a little version number header.
>>57193438
I agree.
/g/ I don't know shit about hacking or whatever but this guy is saying that he can unlock/remove iCloud from an iPhone. I know that this is bullshit because he says he does it for $10 in a 1 - 6 hour time-frame.
I'm asking you, /g/, is it possible to unlock/remove iCloud? I'm curious to know what you know and think.
Give it back, De'Linquent.
Give it back Tyrone.
