Should I learn it or just stick with C++?
>>57201193
both , they're gud
No. The hype train on it is basically over on it so any prospect for exciting new features is over. It's type system is less powerful than C++ and it has no notable innovations over what modern C++ provides. You get stuck using poorly maintained wrapper libraries around real C and C++ libraries. Finally, literally noone wants to learn how the borrow checker works to understand your code, or install yet another bloaty development environment with its own special snowflake build system and crates garbage just to build your programs.
>>57201356
This nigga gets it.
The borrow checks looks good on paper, but is a pain to work with. Like the devs say, it even rejects valid programs. C++11 and higher steamrolls over the Starbucks language.

>>57201165
Yes. With Linux you don't tough.

Well, shit. Guess I better go ahead and do one last big back up of my shit, then. Really didn't want to.
Not that big of a deal since I have an SSD and can do it quickly, but this is a little shitty.
Good thing I went ahead and bought Win10 when my hard drive failed and I bought my SSD.
Let's get this question sorted once and for all.
VLC is the best

I recently watched a talk by Barny Soupsoup, the founder, and CEO of C++, given at C++con 2016.
he mentioned some things that implied C++ 11 is the standard for C++ developers.
As a novice to C++ and the C++ ecosystem, but not programming, I want to get into DSP. Should I go with C++ 11 or 14?
C++14 is just a minor revision of 11. If you're doing your own projects it's supported by every modern non-retarded compiler. If you aren't then you probably don't need to worry about having the choice.
>>57201060
Just go with C++11, as C++14 is not widely adapted by G++ and other compilers.
About every single C++11 feature is available though.
>>57201115
https://gcc.gnu.org/projects/cxx-status.html#cxx14
http://clang.llvm.org/cxx_status.html
Every major vendor has moved on and started work on C++1z, with the probable exception of MS which I haven't bothered to check.
Next year I finally will be able to go to university. I know there are lots of computer science students or people who already have finished their degree here. Is it a good choice? I'm not quite sure if I should study business or computer science or maybe something completely different.

Don't be a child
Realize that all current games really are terrible.
Don't let go of gaming if you genuinely still enjoy it. I realised I hadn't enjoyed it for a couple of years so I let it go.
If you want to use Linux exclusively and save money you would've spent on muh gaming rig then get a console.
if computers and robots ever become sentient and destroy the human race, would we have deserved it?
Maybe some day us humans will die out because we are so weak but our sentient robots will continue on. Why not see them as our children, continuing our creation?
>>57200661
obviously humans will create anti-sentiment robots which is hardcoded to kill sentiment robots

I know that feel, had to remember pointless vocabulary
What's the current opinion on the cheap dual e5-2670 builds for budget manycore applications?
If you're not familiar with this, it's about $300 for two surplus 8-core 2.6ghz sandy vag CPUs + motherboard.
Are these still the way to go, or are sufficiently cheap ivy or even haslel setups a better choice now?
>>57200629
It's cheaper to buy a Dell Precision T5600 than it is to buy a motherboard and build the machine from components.
And yes, they are still the cheapest way to get a "powerful" PC.
>>57200629
wait for zen and get 8 core 16 thread for $150.
i currently run a single 2670 and it games at max settings 1080p 60+ frames on almost every title.
as for workstation purposes, i havent gotten around to testing much but it is nice to have world of tanks and runescape running both smoothly at the same time so i can afk train while in tank matches
