Is the VR meme finally dead?
>>
Not dead, but it will be just a gimmick for a long time. VR will only stop being a meme once we develop direct neural interfaces.
>>
Cost didn't kill VR.
Impracticality and ending support killed VR.
Gamers want to sit down and relax, playing a game. Anything else is a gimmick

The fact that the simple act of plugging in an Oculus DK1 right now will literally brick your Windows 10 install beyond repair kinda says a lot about the future of VR

>plugging in an Oculus DK1 right now will literally brick your Windows 10
What the fuck? How?
>>
>>57194229
>Cost didn't kill VR

Bullshit if VR was $30 and compatible with many Android and computer devices millions of people would buy it just for the porn alone.
>>
>>57194229
lol wut
>>
>>57194478
This is the biggest issue. They are expensive.

Not this >>57194229 you don't know what you are talking about.
>>

>Cost didn't kill VR.
On the contrary, look at years back when game consoles were fresh and new. A lot of them, when you account for inflation over time, were really expensive, yet were still fairly neat because the concept of being able to use your television to view what a basic interfaced computing system would output with little pixels was fresh and exciting, much like VR itself. The HTC Vive, priced around $800 retail right now, would be close to matching the price of the Atari 2600 (with inflation). And while the 2600 was successful, it also didn't sell enough to break even on that 800,000 units that were produced. Nowadays, general manufacturing costs have improved and the value of the dollar has changed as well, so as time progressed since the 2600's retail release shit was getting very affordable, inflation considered.

I'm not saying cost alone is a core factor as to what exactly killed VR, but it's one of the factors I feel that's contributing to it (such as the fragmentation of VR headset support between many games, the amount of full-fledged titles that are out there vs simple tech demos, and also the vast amount of companies getting into VR either producing straight-on headsets (Starbreeze, Sony, and the likes) or simple plastic cases you put your cellphone into that are cheaper but arguably not as impressive.

Is this guy retarded? Or millionaire retarded?
>>
>>57194229
>Cost didn't kill VR

Hey guys look at my I can afford stuff other people can't because I am rich. Therefore money and cost isn't the problem right?
>>
>>57194229
>Cost didn't kill VR
>third world Indian people and chinks are the biggest indie developers
>somehow people are surprised they can't afford to buy expensive trendy technology and would rather code for Android or ios which is more profitable

Hurp durp pricing was right that's why nobody bought one, right?
>>
>>57194478

for the whole five sites that have a total of 50 videos right? I don't want to shit on your parade but most people aren't poor and addicted to pornography like you.
>>
>>57194229
Bad b8 m8 feel ashamed I r8 0/8 fuck you with a cactus
>>
>>57193881
No, I literally just jerked off like an hour ago. VR porn is goat.
>>
>>57194592
Just because you justify wasting hundreds of dollars in overpriced technology doesn't mean you are not poor.

Not only porn but many people would also use it for video games, marijuana and shrooms trips, relaxing, real time calls, entertaining etc. But they are too expensive.
>>
>>57193881
it is dead til they figure out how to move in VR without experiencing motion sickness or being awkward as shit.
What good is VR if you are just a dumb fucker sitting and just looking around. It's a gimmick like 3D but you could argue that it is worst because it is far more expensive and needs way more hardware to power it.
>>
>killed VR
What, does the world have ADD? Those VR things came out this year.
>>
Nobody wants to strap stupid shit to their face AND flail around their room knocking everything over. It's actually worse than the 3D fad because of the second part.

The motion sickness and lack of basic feedback (reach out to touch something - it's not actually there) seal the deal: VR is a stillborn fad. Nobody wants it and nobody cares about it.
>>
>>57194746
>Nobody wants it and nobody cares about it.
You're talking out of your ass.
>>
ITT: things can only ever have one reason.

Of course price paid a roll.
Of course impracticality did.

If things are cheap impracticality is forgiven to an extent. If things are practical and user friendly expensiveness is forgiven.

VR was neither practical beyond stupid gimmicks nor was it cheap. A terrible business concept really.
>>
>>57194667
They've already solved motion sickness.
>>
>>57194957
* played a role

Not yet, but it's not strictly "alive" either. Some POV games will get finished. Maybe position tracking will get mainstream. But these are just death rattle. On the
>dropped
level it will be somewhere between tablets and smartwatches.
>>
>>57193881

depends, is vr porn worth it?
>>
>>57195581
It's pretty awesome.
>>
I've been bashing this shit since day 1 as a gimmick.

Nvidia has been doing 3d display shit for ages, nobody fucking uses it.
>>
>>57194661

>many people would also use it for (a bunch of things that only poor people do)

Get your story straight already.
>>
>>57193881
It's dead? Already?

Or is it just dead because Linus' bull doesn't like it?
>>
>>57193881
It is not desd. With pixel and daydream it's about to start. The potential is endless. Games, work, meetings, dates, porn, movies, etc
>>
>>57194478

if it was half the current price i'd buy it for porn alone :^)
