A friend gave me an old IBM ThinkPad (T42 2374).
The windows installation is fucked and its stuck in a boot loop.
I'd like to put mint on it. How do I go about this?
Do I just look for the latest version and put it on a USB stick and try to boot from that?

Anyone ever replace the battery on an ipad or iphone? At home or in some service center?
9 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
Please take it to an authorize Apple repair center to have it serviced.
By doing it yourself you lose your warranty and risk permanently damaging the device
>>
With an iPhone, it's easy. However, due to the size and amount of glue securing an iPad battery, I would take it to a pajeet to be fixed.
>>
>>57187346
>>57187300
After one year (without applecare) you wont have warranty anymore.

I replaced the battery on an old iphone 4s a few years back, let me use it again for another year, previous battery only lasted an hour or so anymore. Bought the battery 'new' from ebay. Replacing it was a bit annoying with a tiny connector part flying out of the phone but ifixit really halped with their walkthrough.

>alternatives to virtualbox?

I am on arch + i3
virtualbox had issues on it for some time
going for older pre-Qt versions worked fine
but now with kernel update 4.8 it refuses to start

I love virtualbox for its ease of setup
and its performance, which for basic tasks feels almost native
I remember I tried qemu + whatever the other part of the name was
and it took me ages to setup, and in the end the way mouse felt and general performance... damn I could not stay with it...

did it get better? or are there some tools to help?
or is there something better?

>220w
>Water cooling required
>Board needs to have insane VRM to handle it without frying

Why does this exist? I personally think Vishera is still good for budget builds and can excuse the 125w TDP, but a 220w CPU isn't even practical for daily use. Maybe it's the binning, but even the newest 8320s made can OC really far.

AMD, please no retarded the new architecture.

>still better than my 4350

>>
>>57186703
That's cool Anon. All i have of my 8350 rig is the 990FX-UD3 board, but is the newer revision 5 one with the beefy VRM.
>>
Look Anon, the TDP of this processor is so high not just because of the clock rate, but because it packs it 8 mildly shared cores. Look at Intel with its 90+ watt quad cores. DO you think AMD is special?

Intel is derived from global foundries and AMD is using TSMC. GF is on top of their game, but they spout more and more transistors that TSMC can not keep up with, with just tighter fabrication.

At 32nm they're doing pretty good, but at the expected 14nm the power increment with 8 cores is going to go beyond 300 watts!

If AMD tries to sandwhich that in an even smaller die, the processor will die quicker than a piggy at a pot roast.

Is it safe to use the latest VeraCryp (1.19)? I'm using 1.17 and I've read somewhere that it might be compromised.
What do you guys think is the safest encryption program out there?
13 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
>>57186615
VC is secure...
What you've heard about were just minor bugs, an outdated zlib dependency and an incorrect implementation of an exotic russian encryption algorithm (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GOST_(block_cipher)) that you're probably not using anyway. They have patched all this immediately and what you read was clickbait.
>>
>>57186687
Thanks for the info, does this mean 1.17 is safe to use too?
>>

Why would you want to use an older version?
