Is Peter Thiel right? Is technology really stagnating?
Computer technology is, but to say that technology as a whole is stagnating? I don't think so.
Why improve what isn't broken?
A computer made 10 years ago feels similar to a computer made yesterday.
>>57186439
You obviously haven't listened to or read any Peter Thiel, because if you had you would know that non-computer tech is stagnating even more and has seen way less progress.

What about going from 0 to 1 instead of 1 to n? Like inventing the car instead of breeding faster horses.

So, finally decided to make a decent attempt at the switch, someone recommended Antergos in here for me the other day. It's been smooth sailing, the application installer is a godsent and the installer was a bliss.
Fucked up my dual boot somehow, I'll have to fix that later *sigh*
I noticed it immediately after installing, have tried many different tweaks and fixes but I can't seem to solve it. Every 3-4 seconds or so the video/audio cuts in and out, like a stutter for a microsecond and I have no idea what to do.
I installed Gnome as me DE if that helps and I have a GTX 970 as my GPU, all system resources are nowhere the max threshold.
Shit on me for asking for help, go ahead.
>>57186377sudo pacman -Syy
sudo pacman -S nvidia nvidia-libgl nvidia-utils nvidia-settings lib32-nvidia-libgl lib32-nvidia-utils
if this doesn't workinstall gentoo
or try a different non-shitty DE
>>57186503
Thanks for the help, should I restart after running that?
If you had to recommend a DE what would choose? I wanted gnome for the minimal look and easy themeability.
>>57186537
yes, you need to restart after installing the proprietary nvidia kernel modules...
see
https://github.com/tylerjl/overdue
for a pacman hook that notifies you after installing stuff that requires a restart (of applications, services or your machine)
install cinnamon... it's comfy AF
Do you know the blank page glitch on your iPhone? This is a secret granted only to the few, the powerful. With no jailbreak and no special modification you can make a blank home screen on ios. I dare you to figure out how
Step 1. put phone in ass
Step 2.????
Step 3. Profit
>>57186287
Not quite. You're gonna need some prehensile limbage for this one

Hello /g/, I am going to start learning programming from scratch again; the thing is after two years in uni and countless youtube videos at random my knowledge and understanding of programming is all sort of mess with no solid base.
So I am going to get to very basics and start from there, and establish a base then build out from there.
I am modestly speaking pretty intelligent so understanding deep concepts and picking them up isn't a problem, so I'd like a medium that acknowledges me as that, codecadamy an other meme- that try t put fun where it doesn't need any more doesn't satisfy me, can you recommend me some books or a singular starting point that i can dedicate myself to?
effort isn't a problem, 12 hours a day is fine by me, this is the only thing I intend to do until I am satisfied with my knowledge and programming ability.
I know The Tao of programming is /g/ core book, I actually saved all the infographs but lost it in my autism wipe everything kill-yourself rage. So yeah hopefully someone have similar experience and can share some insight or give guidance.
forgot to add,
pls respond
No trolling but start with a language and give it time.
>>57186297
Is C a good language to start?
I don't wanna just know the syntax but understand programming itself, that I should be able to come up with solutions etc,
are there any good C books?
No I'm serious /g/ Anthony said to buy this keyboard because /g/ said it's "guuud" I told Anthony I was like dude forget /g/ they dunno shit other then how to tell people to install Gentoo that keyboard is a maymay he's no it's not a maymay I was like fine i'm gonna prove to you that /g/ agrees it's a maymay right after I buy it.
Now /g/ would you please tell Anthony that this keyboard is a maymay.
>>57186161
Hey man, I don't know which Anthony told you this, but as an Anthony myself, I would never recommend a Corsair keyboard.
>>57186161
>Corsair
Entire company is a meme
>>57186161
It's not a bad keyboard. I sold mine to get TKL keyboard, though. I would have gotten the K65, but I didn't like the colour.
Redpill me on this
Why would I use this over MadVR+MPC-BE with proper filters?
>>57186138
Because Lincucks can't have MadVR and they're like the fox and the grapes.
>>57186151
I use windows and prefer mpv. Its also available for os x.
>>57186198
but why?
Im so incredibly new to Linux but my boss wants someone in the office to learn how to use it. any suggestions as to what distro would be good for a beginner and any suggestions of ways to learn would be great.

Why can't we just enact laws that force people to test their own networks for infected botnet computers? Why can't we just hold people and businesses liable for using and buying infected hardware?
Honestly, the DDOS over IoT problem is only going to get worse the further we get into the future. Right now computers and smartphones are still kind of in the niche phase. Just wait till cheap/disposable/3d printable technology becomes widely available, and the internet is going to melt down. Everybody and their pets will have multiple, if not eventually hundreds of internet connected devices on them, even in third world countries, and it won't cost a fortune like it does today. What will we do then? Sure our networks will be bigger and more robust, but will they ever be able to handle exponential growth?
I predict an absolute shitstorm within the next 50-100 years. Eventually, everybody will prefer to speak on private bitcoin-operated "toll" net to avoid the spam. That won't stop the problem though. Just look at sites like Plebbit and /pol/. Notice the ridiculous amount of political botting that's been going on? Pretty soon, bots will outnumber us all by many orders of magnitude more than they are outnumbering us today.

You need to puncture a cell INTO another cell to get reactions like this.
If something near your ass is that impacted, you likely have more serious spinal issues to worry about.
>>57186078
Not if you get stabbed in the butt and the phone saves you, only to end up killing you itself.
I've been wanting to get both a lightning to hdmi and a micro usb to hdmi cable in order to display my devices on TVs. Problem is I'm poor and now want to make them. I have all the parts and tools needed but can't find a circuit diagram anywhere on how they are wired. Anyone ever make then before and if so do you have a circuit for it?
You need circuitry for that.
How complex of circuitry? I know you can make otg cables without any by connecting the wires and short circuiting two of the connections.
>>57185977
This complex.
>>57185924
Probably not.
You should at least go to a boot camp.

Should I avoid 27inch 1080p monitors?
I currently want to get a 144Hz monitor.
Thinking between a 24inch 1080p or a 27inch 1080p.
Don't think my current gpu can support 1440p at 144+ fps.
I do sit quite close to my current monitor (it's 22inch, 1680 x 1050). Face is maybe around 40-50cm away from the monitor.
Is 27inch 1080p going to be pixels all over the place? Or is it acceptable?
pls respond
kys
If 1080p go for 24", if you want that 1440p goodness go for 27"
Guys help I'm getting a new phone in about a month and I can't decide on the color. So what would you pick: silver or black?
why on earth would you ask that here?
Big black iPhone
Get them both
Is using a graphics card as a means of heating up your room a bad idea?
I don't have a heater or anything like that, and turning the actual heating of my house on in the middle of the night is a no go. I have a 980Ti and usually just run Unigine Valley in a window when I'm sitting browsing the internet or whatever as it doesn't slow anything down but makes quite a bit of heat.
Is this bad for the lifetime of the card?
>>57185657
Are you ill?
>>57185657
It won't heat up your room is the main problem. Maybe a degree, but only if you have a well insulated home and you close the door to the room. And the room is small. Consider a space heater is usually around half a kilowatt on the very low end and one of those portable radiator things poor people use is more like 2kw.
>>57185723
My room is pretty small and I shut all the windows and doors obviously. It does heat the room up quite a bit because if I leave the room and come back theres a blast of hot air when I open the door to go back in.
