Do this MIT course:

https://www.edx.org/course/introduction-computer-science-mitx-6-00-1x-9

it's challenging as fuck, but you'll learn how to program enough to learn anything. Python have a little of both OOP and functional programming. So you get a well rounded intro.

Does anyone else imagine having to explain elements of today's society to someone from (for example) 1995?

Things like podcasts, Uber and Amazon Go would absolutely blow their minds. The closest thing to a relevant piece of technology at the time would have been a shitty Casio PDA. The Internet existed but at the time it was pretty much just a collection of fansites. You would have to convince them that it eventually becomes a platform in which people (not just nerds) spend most of their lives shopping, socializing and being entertained

>You would have to convince them that it eventually becomes a platform in which people (not just nerds) spend most of their lives shopping, socializing and being entertained

You wouldn't because that was the general idea that was being sold to the masses. Before the dot com crash you had rudimentary versions of everything you have now, except social media. Nobody saw that one coming.

>>58303329

Maybe. But I'm talking about how ubiquitous it became so quickly to nearly everyone.

This, making the touchpad a large touch display with pen input would have been way more useful than the fucking touchbar

So I was looking for a cheap gpu and this caught my eye: a GTX 580 that was "broken". The guy selling it is saying that it doesn't give any display. The dust inside that thing could be fucking horrible, I mean look at that fan. I am thinking of trying to buy this, clean it and try to see if it works.

Would lots of dust prevent a gpu from giving display?

No,you can run a GPU without fan and it would still work.

So I just got started with linux (I tried Ubuntu, then Linux Mint and then Manjaro), and my question was: how do you become an experienced linux user? How do you learn how to use the terminal? How did YOU become so experienced?
>inb4 back to wangblows

>>
I learned new things as I needed them. Know what you are supposed to do and figure out how to do it.
>>
>>58302982
This is kind of a dead meme here, but I learned by using Arch.

During the installation process, you're forced to use the command line. And unless you're just copy-pasting commands from some sketchy tutorial, you're learning what those commands are actually doing and what's going on in the installation process by reading the official installation wiki.

The rest you just learn as you accumulate tasks you need done. For example say you want to un-comment a bunch of lines in a config file, but only certain comments that meet a critera, like server names or something. Well there's a way to do that with one command in the terminal.

Tl;dr you just learn as you go, provided you have actual tasks you need to do that require you to use the terminal
>>
>>58302982
Force yourself not to use the GUI and google how to do whatever it is you want to do by terminal. Slowly you will learn. Fucking up your machine is part of the experience, reformat and start over. Repetition and experimentation leads to knowledge.

I just got rid of FF since the downloads stopped after a while so I couldn't download """large""" files (300+MB). I tried opera, but it crashes every time I open a download page in a second tab. Is there some non memey browser I can use? or at least tell me how to fix, FF tells me to do a thousand of different things to fix and I don't want to spend a year trying to have a working browser, I couldn't find help on the Opera side. I'd prefer not to sell my soul and body to google and friends, so no Chrome pls. Is Chromium good? is it botnet? please provide sources if you want to accuse/defend something, no shilling
