How do i stop this?

Thermal paste
Cleanup

First thing's first: get a different program to measure temps. speccy fucks up reading temps a lot.
Second. Clean the cat hair and shit out of your case.
What font do you use for programming and/or on your terminal?
hack
Source Code Pro / Terminus

Windows 7 search is broken as fuck
I heard most of you use something to replace it, what do you use that don't crawl to kill HHs/24/7 and is light and fast?
Everything
First thing I tried was launchy but its fucking shit since is not even integrated in the explorer
>>58300971
Why would anyone even need to use search? Just organize your shit properly.
i finally did it.
That is not the gentoo people mean when they say install gentoo. You just installed the gentoo file manager (which DID have the name first)

Is something wrong with my eyes ?
I used to average 75 brightness and drop to 35 at night.
For the past few months, even in broad daylight, 15 brightness is my upper bound and anything beyond is irritating. Even 0 seems too bright at night and wish I could dim it further.
Getting kinda worried m8s.
>>58300881
It's probably cancer m8
Too much brightness is bad. I used to work with a lot of brightness years ago. Nowadays I have some LG ultrameme monitor that's set at 10% and that's pretty much enough for me, despite more brightness looking better. I used to get dizzy and shit.
Also I use f.lux now but I'm not exactly sure how good or bad this is.
At night I set the brightness to 0
During the day I set it to 25%
I have an old family Dell XPS 630
https://www.cnet.com/products/dell-xps-630/specs/
I haven't upgraded the CPU since I bought it in June 2006, but I have upgraded the GPU and RAM. Eventually I'm going to replace the CPU and motherboard, but for now just going for a slightly better CPU.
This is what I'm looking at currently to replace it
https://www.amazon.com/Intel-3-33GHz-1333MHz-Desktop-Processor/dp/B001BS1ONW/ref=sr_1_14?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1483444604&sr=1-14&refinements=p_72%3A1248879011%2Cp_n_feature_keywords_four_browse-bin%3A7107929011%2Cp_n_condition-type%3A2224371011%2Cp_89%3AIntel
1 - Is it even compatible? (I matched the socket types as LGA775, was there another factor to determine if it'll work with my motherboard?)
2 - Is it better? (2.4 GHz vs 3.33 GHz, or 2 Quad vs 2 Duo, do Cores even matter vs GHz?)
>>58300735
instead of a cpu "UPGRADE"
upgrade your mobo. and proceed to overclock your q6600 to 3GHz+ for better results.
>>58300818
Thats what i usually do before upgrading.
Before buying new stuff overclock the old really hard and buy new when the old breaks.
This way im still using my i5 2500k @ 4ghz after 2 years
>>58300838
Same goes here.
Running 4790k @ 5Ghz on 1.35V... for little less than a year..
No skyshit can even compare.
Is all our code useless /g/?
You are useless for posting this.

"no"
I've searched through the catalog, but haven't found a suitable thread:
I'm currently rocking a refurb Dell e6230 with an HDD. Would I even notice a cpu/gpu performance bump if I were to move over to a sklylake/kaby lake system, or would I be just thorwing money away and should just stick to upgrading the HDD to an SSD?
>i5-3320m
You probably won't notice much different in a skylake laptop. Maybe more battery life, because of the smaller power consumption if you're looking for that.
If you upgrade, the screen is probably the first thing you notice that will get much better.
Since it seems there is sata 3, I would just buy an ssd.
>>58300765
with the "long run time" 6 cell battery in the image mine runs for about 7 hours.
with the Flush fitting 3 cell it runs for about 4.
Honestly that is a long time one would use a computer without being close to a power outlet. Buses, Trains, and most planes have outlets now.
>>58300765
>>58300805
Battery life is not much of a concern for me desu, I rarely go without being plugged in for more than an hour and very rarely for more than 3 hours.
I was more so wondering what % performance increase I could expect out of Kaby compared to Ivy, assuming same frequencies and how much better is the igpu in Kaby. It's really hard to find generations' comparison going so far back...
Are we at least 10 years past the golden age of /g/ related consumerwhoredom? I remember when my family got a computer in 2001 at the age of 9, part of the wonder was all the software you could download to do cool things. These days you guys have to satisfy yourselves by spending $ 100 on strange shaped chinese hardware, having an app that slighty changes the way you browse your phone, or spending 10,000 hours, getting 500 certs, and working for 1000 hour so you can learn enough about linux to change the task bar's colour.
Has this dimension been lost as computer operating systems are more and more walled gardens? Or does it still exist and you've moved on to better things because you're older?
>>58300454
Yes.
Wut?
It's what you make of it. I just finished putting mpv and surf on my netbook, it's maximum comfy now. Pic related.
Hell, you can now get a ps4 to play your steam games, so I think this age is loads more awesome than the 90s or early 2000s, as you can buy pretty much anything for cheap, enabling you to do this kind of shit.
I recentally pirchased thr program Filter Forge and have been having a blast.
Sorry yourr so disillusioned, OP.
I just tried to make a complete system image on an external SSD, and it errored and stopped after about 25 minutes.
I had chrome open with around 7 tabs going. Now that I think about it having active tabs and programs going are likely what fucked it up right?
It managed to save 150ish gig image file onto the disk but I erased it promptly.
>>58300431
Before anyone says anything the external disk has more than enough storage space
just image it with clonezilla
jesus
>>58300449
Does zilla 1:1 copy the disk? I thought it was just a bogstandard file backup utility.
>set up honeypot
>immediate telnet attacks
wew
honeypot general I guess
>old hand down modem has telnet enabled
>no way to log in since i don't know the password
probably things like this that makes me have to restart it weekly because of my 800kb connection dropping
>>58300425
Just reset the modem, then Google what the default pass is
>>58300457
the thing is that the password is tied to the previous owners email address provided trough her ISP email service
so yeah, the modem and her email from like 2007 shares the same password
I've tried one password I know she uses for sure, but it didn't work
no point in asking her as she is a 60 year old tech illiterate who loses accounts on a weekly basis, falls for basic scams and barely can keep a working windows installation
Considering buying it at 260 euros, principle of choice is its camera and also the very good price at this specs. I know I am missing the apps but I feel I can cope with it.
What do you think? Does anybody have it?( i am not in gaming with the phone, only camera video Reddit and 4chan fagot).
Before discover the lumia I was thinking of nexus 5x at same price but in comparison I think lumia is far better, including photo department.
Kill you're self
>>58300349
Does it worth it;
I've got one and I love it. Granted it has the downfall of all the Windows phones with a low volume of apps, but it works well if you don't really use them anyway. The long battery life is a big plus.
I'm using FreeNAS 9 stable on my home server for a shitload of stuff and the 10.0 release is coming up with major changes
>plugins no longer jails, but awesome Docker containers
>UI no longer looks like it was designed in 2002
Anyone use this beta yet? How is it in terms of backward compatibility and stability (considering it's a beta)?
The ui seems like a nice improvement over the previous one. Where I can download the beta?
>>58300203

Roadmap looks pretty good.
I'm building a gaming rig, I was about to purchase the parts when a friend said WAIT! Kaby Lake i7 7700k is being released in a few days, don't buy the i7 6700k
Is this guy correct? Should I wait for the Kaby Lake or go ahead with my 6700k purchase?
>>58300139
7700 is just a 6700 with a tiny overclock. it even uses more power.
They are literally identical. Waiting makes no sense.
Analyze the benchmarks yourself and see if it's worth it for yourself. There isn't much of a difference
1. physically disconnect 2nd ssd
2. install linux + gnu on 1st ssd
3. reconnect 2nd ssd
4. install windows on 2nd ssd
5. at boot press F12 to switch between linux + gnu and windows
You can now encrypt your OSes easily. If you fuck up you don't have to reinstall both OSes. Thank me later.
welcome to 1986

Why isn't this suggest when you look for dual boot. Wasted years fucking around with retarded dual boot and grub.
1. Buy 2 SSDs and 2 swap frames for 5.25" slots
2. Only connect 1st SSD for Loonix if you work
3. Only connect 2nd SSD for Wincuck if you play
So they don't even know that there's someone else existing
