As long as it isn't the Incompatible Portsbook, you're welcome
Wanting to learn how to navigate linux properly. I currently have two books in my possession: "The Linux Command Line" and "How Linux Works" both by No Starch Press. I only really have time to study one at the moment. I will eventually will get to both but I'm wanting to know which you'd recommend me read first?
Also /g/ book thread.

the big secret is you don't need to read a book to use linux. Much to /g/'s chagrin, with distributions like Ubuntu, it's as easy to operate a Linux computer as a Windows PC or a Mac... if not easier.
Just do shit and look up the stuff you don't know.
Installed windows 10 over windows 7 on both my laptop and pc.
>a bit better fps in games
>higher ram usage when idle, but better while ingame because of memory management
Now comes the best part:
>auto installs facebook, twitter, candy crush, minecraft and some 3d vision photo viewer?...ugh
>people speculate that you can't get rid of spying even with spybot and the tweaks
>the UI is awful. Not that i do not like the metro style, but it is not even full metro. It is just a combination of win7 elements and windows 10
>windows defender reactivates whatever i try
>bluescreens over bluescreens
>on my main pc, the boot got fucked up and it went full black when booting, not even the logo appearing or anything.
Tried multiple solutions that I saw over the internet.
FF3 days:
>still had to reinstall windows and lose over 300gb of already installes programs
TL;DR: Windows 10 is a pain in the ass but it gives me better fps in games.
Is it even worth it at this point?
so in short you are a fucking moron who doesnt know anything about anything?
I doubt it gives you better FPS in games.
And your claim about memory is just bogus.
Get out of my board.
What do you think of the 1080 ti?
Too expensive for poojeets.
>>58298624
It will be between Titan X (pascal) and 1080 unlike 980ti vs Titan X (maxwell)

The combination of the mini-itx motherboard and the small graphics card fitted into a full sized tower makes a comical presentation indeed.
One may question the need for such a large case for such compact components.

If it snaps when you bolt it that just means you didn't solder it on good enough in the first place.

I just moved to Vancouver from Europe and the choice of broadband is fucking atrocious. We can get Novus 100/15 line but everything has a data cap. I'll be looking at spending $100+ a month for a 100Mb line with 1TB of monthly data.
Back in Ireland or the UK I could get something 3 times faster than that for half the fucking price with unlimited data AND a free modem/router. Fat fucking chance for any of that over here
Only just discovered kodi, what a fucking amazing program.
Any tips or tricks for a noob?
>>58296215
I don't get it. How is it amazing? And it can't play live TV from my TV tuner so I'll probably still not use it.
>>58296288
Why can't it play from your tv tuner? I've seen it in use doing that.
The depth of it is incredible, how it can be so many different things for whatever your use case may be.
>>58296310
It can't. It needs 3rd-party software to run as a backend and they're all hot garbage. There is not a single piece of software that just werks with a TV tuner EXCEPT.....

illumos (and derivatives like SmartOS, OmniOS and DelphixOS) are still alive and will continue to develop.
For anybody who doesn't know Solaris was briefly open source and was forked to illumos where all the important work was done for ZFS+Dtrace+zones, basically everything that made Solaris still valuable after they closed source.
If you want a server operating system that will run a private cloud in the worst conditions possible then look into SmartOS. Zones + ZFS + fault management architecture (fmadm(1M) / svcadm(1M)) make it possible.
You can drop OpenBSD firewalls in front of it and use Relayd to load balance, and you can still run linux binaries if you want with lx containers still giving you access to native Solaris programs with it.
SmartOS is by far the best server OS that exists (DTrace!) in 2017 and is what Solaris should have become but yeah, Larry is a bond villain so never happened.
What are you working on, /g/?
