Is there a way to embed a subtitle file into a video file without encoding the whole thing?
So I bought a piece of shit TV for my bedroom and it looks like it can't process two different files. The subtitles work fine if they are embedded in the same file as the video file as an optional component. I'm not talking about hardsubbing, I just want softsubs.

I tried everything you said, such as resetting Winsock. Didn't work sadly, I've tried several things which came out with no results. Time to wipe the Year and a Half install of Windows 7 I guess

Hi /g/, /n/ here. I am planning a bicycle tour through isolated country with no access to wall outlets & have a Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc S LT8i to setup for navigation (along with paper maps). I will charge it from a Schmidt SONdelux Dynamo & Sinewave revolution with a std USB output. The phone hasn’t seen much use and seems in very good nic aside from the stock battery (BA750) which isn’t great anymore. It’s running android 2.3.4. I’ve never used a smartphone before. How should I set this phone up – android version, firmware, maps software? What battery should I put in it? Pic is my rig on a short 2 week tour to test stuff. Thanks for any advice.

Honestly, since you have a dynamo, any settings to make the battery last longer wont matter too much.
The only thing you would really need a phone for is an emergency, so perhaps look around for a dedicated gps with an emergency button and see how much it costs.

Yeah the battery isn't a huge deal i'll probably just get a like replacement ($10).
I just did 2 weeks with an old brick i left off the whole time for emergencies. Paper maps, asking directions and just crashing in the bush whenever i get tired was fun but i want to prepare for international travelling and GPS maps would be nice for non English speaking countries where i have to plan campsites ahead of time. A dedicated Garmin or something would be cool but this was free.
I'm mostly asking about what updates to do to the phone and any good maps software, before i start setting it up and have to backtrack and reformat later.
I'd maybe do a sat phone one day. Met a dude in the backcountry with one and it seemed pretty cool. I bet they're fucking expensive though.

I recently bought a new hdd, replaced it with old one, installed the os etc.I've backed up some stuff on a usb from the old hdd,however, I forgot to backup a thing or two.Since I only bought the hdd on itself I didn't get the 2 cables with it.My question is can I just replace my new hdd with my old one to send some stuff on my usb and then replace the old one back with the new one?Is that process safe?I mean, the drivers are all the same pretty much idk if that can fk up something.I'm to lazy to buy a new sata and data cable.

Got parts for my bro for a new computer, tried cutting costs on hard drive and case. Case is an old compaq tower that works surprisingly well, but I'm not sure the old compaq hard drive is compatible with the new mobo and other stuff.
SATA and everything connects fine. Computer turns on, XP starts to boot up, then I get blue screen. When I try to go into BIOS, it shuts off within a second. Is this a hard drive issue?

Why are all new ports and technologys made into a confusing mess these days.
USB 3.0, 3.1, 3.1 gen 1 and 3.1 gen 2. Then you can get usb type c ports which only transfer at usb 2.0 speeds.
Also dont forget there are uncertified usb chargers and cables out everywhere even from official manufacturers.
4K and tvs is just a mess as well. you have tvs and connected devices which dont have hdmi 2.0. or you only have 1 port on the tv that supports it. Now you add hdr and you have to fuck around with settings on the tv and make sure again you have ports and cables which support it.
I feel like its just a thing they are doing to get people to constantly buy new stuff. It used to be quite simple with usb 2.0 and
