Hi guys I have begun lifting and I'm doing Starting Strength (hopefully it works for me :) ). I remember when I checked a very long time ago there was a routine that incorporated curls on the sticky but the the starting strength link in the sticky is broken.

I'm wondering if anyone has a link to it or something that will achieve the same purpose. It is important since my arms are african child tier as you can see in pic related.

i'm 6'1 and my arms are a bit bigger than 16 inches but fuck they look small as fuck to me, and my huge frame doesn't help one bit with that problem. also they especially look dyel when seen from front , my arms look so narrow it's retarded (at least from my perspective, could be my body dysmorphia ) but from side they look aight

but , then again im 20% bf so maybe they'd look better if i'd cut down

hi /fit/ first-time poster here. i read the sticky but i was hoping to get advice that was a bit more tailored to my personal body type *pun intended;)

i'm a skinny manlet and i weigh about 125 pounds. i have pretty much no muscle at all, and my goal for this summer is to bulk up, or at least get some more defined muscles.

every time i work out, my muscles react immediately, and i look really awesome for a few hours afterward, but after that, i revert back to my lame, skinny self.

can you please help me build and retain some muscles for this summer?

Jesus dude if you read the sticky just do what it says. There's no personal tailored advice for someone starting from scratch. Just lift weights (do SS or SL) and try to eat at a small surplus (200-300 Cal).

Has instructions & multi-angle videos for the exercises for form. Logging tools with charts & shit. Warm-up & workset calculator. Rest timer. Add and save notes. That kind of stuff.

Why do you think that going to a gym is superior to bodyweight exercises? Considering accepting this meme as my lord and savior.

Reasons against:
- investment fallacy does provably not work on me
- I can do progressions in order to adjust the weight
- leaving the house is extra difficulty when it's cold
- there are other, buffer people who I might feel bad with my beginner plush toys


Reasons in favor:
- everyone says do it faget
- might be an advantage to do the same movement with more weight
- finer adjustment of weights might be an advantage
- might find a gym buddy to increase motivation

Also, how do you motivate yourself to work out consistently for years? I always failed after a few weeks, probably due to a very inconsistent lifestyle.

As long as I figure this habit out before I'm 30 there is still hope. Also nutrition is already at autist-level.

If you're a beginner you need to build strength. If you want to build strength you need to do 5 reps or less with weight that you can only lift for n or n+1 reps. That's not going to happen with bodyweight exercise. Going from 20-40 pushups is endurance, not strength gains.

There is so much misinformation in this post that it doesn't surprise me you admit to repeatedly failing at the gym within a few weeks.

US Army soldiers go off to OSUT during an infantry enlistment and do way more push ups, sits ups, flutter kicks, running, and other insane work outs under extreme stress than you will ever motivate yourself to do. On top of that, their nutrition is impeccable because it has to be (they have no choice). When they leave basic, they basically just look thinner and maybe a little more tone.

The reason is because the weight of your body is not nearly enough for you to put on serious muscle. If you want to get good at doing push ups, then do push ups. Moreover, the OP really gives the impression that you have no idea what you're doing, which is even more reason why you shouldn't just resort to working out at home.

Find a trainer / group of guys / buff master who will show you the way.

I'm wondering if the cut/bulk cycle thing is a meme or a must do. Here's my situation:

6 months of training, 6'1", 175 lbs
Goals:
1. Health
2. Looking good
3. Athletics (I play basketball)
4. Lifting tons of weight

Since I started training I've been doing a really slow cut. I'm probably at around 12-14% BF and really want to see my abs (I can see the top two when flexing). I want to stay lean cuz I think it looks a lot better and being fast (aka lean) is needed to play guard in basketball. I'm still making progress but I'm wondering what will be the long term effects of strength training at maintenance with about 8-10% BF.

Will I make 0 gains? Is bulk/cut just a meme and it'll be ok. Will it sorta work but not be as efficient as bulk/cut? Looking for info here. Please share sources if possible.
