It is really hard to say. Just work with light weights until you get the feel for what you can do at what level without hurting yourself.

Most of all: you must have excellent form and move slowly. Sloppy and exaggerated lifting is now your worst enemy. Also, the hardest part is keeping your ego checked.

Personally, I have a knee injury from a rock climbing fall 3 years ago and torn bursa in shoulder from water polo 5 years ago. I just try my best to have perfect form, keep my ego in check and keep a diary on my phone tracking issues. My shoulders pop, crack and slide around if I do something wrong, so I use this diary to track when pops/cracks happen so I can figure out where my limits are.

Also, I've tried everything for the "magic fix" - been to orthopedic surgeons, massage therapists, trainers, general practitioners, etc. Even had steroids shot directly into my shoulder. Honestly only thing left is stem cells (cannot afford) or surgery (do not want). I just have to give it constant attention and love, prioritizing what is left of the joint over my ego.

Is it possible to have a good work out in one hour? I like going to the gym but I am time limited.

I enter the gym, workout and leave. When I am leaving though.. I see people that got there before me and are still going when I leave!

This makes me feel like a slacker. How long should a routine be?

Is it possible to make gains at the gym if you only go for 1 hour every other day?

I did nights for a couple of years. I used to go in the morning after work, then get my daytime shit done/chillout. Unlike others who find gym waked them up, generally an hour after a session I'm fucking shattered.

Unrelated point but blackout curtains are a must for those sleep gains. When Sumner comes it will kick you in the ass as your body keeps waking itself up every hour or so due to the shitty light.

Honestly it's best to actually sleep at night. Try to sleep as long as you can before going to work and make the room as dark as possible so you don't wake up for optimal hormone release. You'd best gym right after getting off from work.

I do sets of strict, hammer and preacher curls at 80% every time I workout on top of my regular routine, these sets I do 4x8-10. My arms are getting there now, they look good now really. 6'2" here btw
