You don't "need" to run a strength routine first. Having said that, the point of PPLPPLx is to crank up volume as much as possible. But there's a limit to how much volume you can benefit from. As a beginner you could probably get the same results doing half the work. A more experienced guy needs the extra volume to continue to make progress.

My buddy tells me I should be doing weekend runs to improve my 5K times, but does running 7 days a week actually offer any benefits over running 5 days? It seems hard

7 days is probably way too much. 5 days a week might actually be too much for optimal progression in your 5k times.
On the other hand, you might be perfectly capable of progressing with that amount of work if you are young or genetically gifted.

Hello /fit/, I have never posted here before but I need help. I'm applying for a police position and I have a good shot at getting the job but the problem is I'm a fat fuck who can't do the physical, luckily I have a few months but basically I need to do 40 sit ups elbow to knee in one minute and 30 squat thrusts in one minute, I also need to do 18 side steps from cone to cone to cone 8 feet apart in 10 seconds.
I can't do any sit ups cause my stomach is literally in the way and I can only do 12 squat thrusts. Please give me tips guys on how to improve as much as I can within a few months and what I should be doing every day. Thanks in advance. Pic unreleated
