Hey guys, I am a 1st year Mittleider gardener.

One of our tools is a Tin can that we use for a few purposes in the garden. But it rusts out really fast.

I keep one in my fertilizer bucket and it is full of chemical fertilizer salts that corrode the tin in no time. We use the tin can like a scoop to measure out how much fertilizer to add per row.

I am wondering what can I do to protect the can from rusting so fast ? What would be durable against strong fertilizer salts. What kind of finish would stand up to that ?

Just paint it with some kind of spray paint maybe

Or a clear coat, But I dont want the salts to make it flake off.

use a plastic one

or coat it with pickup truck bed liner spray
>>
>>1032401

Yea we use the tin can over plastic because its more sturdy, and its so easy to find a can to use.

Its harder to find a small container of plastic made of thick strong walls.

But I just remembered I have a can of Plasti-dip spray on paint. Its not as good as the bedliner stuff but it might work in the same way.
>>
I got a new can and sprayed a coat of the Plasti-dip on it.

You have to wait about 30 mins between coatings and I wanna give it at least 3 or 4 sprays.

I just weeded my garden and the tomato plants are over 7 feet tall.

Usually I do organics and my plants have never been bigger then 4 to 4 1/2 feet. But this year in the same grow area they are doing much better because I have used the Mittleider method.

I have a 75 HP (electric) air compressor that got vandalized. Kinda want to make it run off an engine instead of three phase so I can sandblast with it and shit. Anyone know what it takes to get an old vehicle engine running out of a car?

Also could I turn the 3phase motor into a generator as well?

>>
You'll need a coupling, a tin of start ya basted and fuel. Just get a cheap carbonated engine or if money is no issue a diesel from a small tractor/boat.

As for the generator, nope. You need a wired armature for that, induction motors just have a big lump of steel.
>>
If you get a carburettor engine or a mechanical pump diesel its very feasible. You are going to need some pressure activated clutch also. You will need a governor control unit too.

I've seen plenty of automotive engines used for irrigation pumps but those are pretty much constant load so require no governor.

Highly reccoment old vw motor. Like 60s and 70s. Air cooled. Need coil and starter wires. Thats it. +/- 40hp

Im about to mount one on a riding mower with 35's. Super fucking simple little shits.

I own this mower and I'm sick of it taking up so much space in my garage. The most I can do to make it more compact in storage is to fold down the handle. I'm thinking of some sort of wall-mounting or wall retaining solution but I was wondering what /diy/ things you've done to mitigate this problem.

Thoughts?

Here's a Toro mower that would be ideal for my situation, but alas, my Husky is too new to consider replacing at this point in time. The lower "arms" don't fold down so even mounted on a wall it would never be this compact.

Don't store it like that or you will have oil leaking out on the floor.

You would be better off building a small outdoor shed for it.

Has /DIY/ ever made their own tool before? How expensive was it to do; what did you need to buy and what were some tips you used in designing your tool? I'm thinking I'd like to give my hand at designing one; pic unrelated.

I hacked and welded a triple square to n old breaker bar.
It worked, as the original socket was too long for use.
>>
I constantly make tools for shit at work, cars nowadays all need specific tools to replace the timing belts.
>>
I went to school for tool and die making, but never wound up working in the field (I'm a machinist).

I still use a few of the tools I made, mostly v blocks, a square block, 1-2-3 blocks, a huge flathead screwdriver, and a simple but effective vise stop.

It wasn't expensive to me personally, but I don't have access to anything as sophisticated as the cnc and manual lathes, vertical mills and grinders I used.

Most importantly, I don't have access to a heat treat facility. Proper heat treating is an art, and I can't possibly recreate what's necessary to get the most out of tool steels.

I live on a farm and want to make a windmill like pic related, does /diy/ have any advice on how to make one,

I've never done any work like this before so I don't know anything. Are there any good sites to check out?

How much power can something like this generate and how do I use that power?

I think they were used to run a water pump down a well
>>

>a water pump

This. They are typically for pumping water from a bore and sometimes a dam or river.

If you want to talk electricity generating google fieldlines.
>>
>>1031856
That is a pumping windmill so zero electrical power. Prolly about 350 Watt mechanical.

When I drive I can pretty much feel every little piece of gravel in the road. It's basically like that princess with the pea and mattress. I've done the thing where I press down on the corner and it doesn't bounce.

Should I replace the shocks or springs?

Drive a couple different vehicles. If the problem persists then obviously the issue is you, and you can start taking steps to get over it.
This would fix the ACTUAL problem.

Hello,
I've replaced this relay before, and it's causing me trouble again. Pic related. I'm looking at replacing it with a more modern ice cube relay, but where do I find a relay with a 24V coil that is rated for 25a/277 volts? Is there a way I could use a contactor for this instead? My only issue is that the heat requires the 240 leg through the NC side, which would be difficult with a contactor.

I've never posted here before, but I could use some advice. I know nothing about cars. at all... but the clutch in my 99 honda civic went out. lazy mechanic friend told me it was the master cylinder and left. He was supposed to help me but didnt. So I watched a bunch of Youtube videos and replaced the damn thing myself. I got it in there and miraculously didnt break anything in the process. I am now trying to bleed the line. Im familiar with the basics of this process, but when I have someone pump and hold the clutch, I turn he bleed valve bolt and it squirts fluid then drips. I did this for at least an hour today and used almost a bottle of brake fluid before taking a break. The clutch only comes halfway up now compared to sitting on the floor as before, and there is pressure. Do I need to keep up the same process? Am I doing something wrong? any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I thing u opening the line to much and letting air back in when it dribbles try and just to say open the bleed valve and close it

Thanks, that sounds about right. Ill give it a try.

How long / how much brake fluid should it take? like 30 min or so?

Hi,

Im planning on making myself a armor a bit like this, but I am not completely sure how the chest piece works and can't find blueprints(or what is the word). So I decided to ask for help here.

Does anyone here have experience with such design? Any tips on how to not screw it up?

Learn to walk before you run, m8. Google some guides on home made costumes or vests, then google some shit about leather working and materials, then come back with specific questions.

Google leather armor patterns. Tons of sites.
>>
layered leather like in your picture seems simple enough to design.

Download a copy of Marvelous Designer and draw your own patterns.

Hi /diy/. I'm moving in my new appartment and I'm thinking of having a hanging bed in my new bedroom. Right now, I'm wondering how to know if the room will bear the weight. Does anyone have one? Some tips ?
26 posts and 2 images submitted.
>>
>apartment
It will not. Full stop. You need specific reinforcement for this shit, and its always easier to add shit like this in the joists of a house you own.

Make a steel frame for this that rests on the ground, like a hammock frame.
>>
>>1028216
Why an apartment ceiling wouldn't be able to bear it? If I put the weight on several points, wouldn't it work? I've seen drywall ceiling anchors, isn't it enough?

The whole point is for it not to rest on the ground, I would like to be able to change the height of the bed in order to free some space.
>>
>>1028219
If you live in some rustic timber framed apartment with exposed beams, should be good to go.

Also, if you or your loved ones are about to roll into a bed that you anchored into drywall ceiling, please film it for all of us to enjoy.

Tell me your favourite power tool and why.

Also power tool accidents pictures and videos.

I just used an angle grinder today for the first time to cut 4 posts of a former metal cabin bed down so it would just be a normal bed. Holy fucking shit it felt so good. The power it gives you just rushes through you. You can cut literally anything.

Old one is slipping, new /QTDDTOT/ ahoy.

How does /diy/ get wood? These are parts of a project I intend to make. I know the colours and tones I'm after but I have no idea what timbers would do the job. Halp?

scrap wood from old construction sites, craigslist, home depot, build a saw go innawoods and cut down a tree
any of those options works for acquiring wood
colour wise, if you can't find an exact match, stains man

I need a trigger mechanism that will hold a fixed-wing UAV on the launch rail and release it when pressed/pulled. Are there any ready-made triggers that will survive 15kg tension or should I make my own thing?
>>
>>1010386

If you intend to make something as drawn, your question is irrelevant unless you can DIY your own plywood. Which you can't, and are going to need. Otherwise you're going to have a bad time.
