Depends on your building materials. Bricks are relatively simple, same for cinderblocks. Not a terribly hard project in my opinion!

My sister is selling me her house so we can both save some money. Said house has both asbestos tiles in the basement and popcorn ceilings pre-1980. Tiles span about 1000 sq ft, but are mostly undamaged and undisturbed. Pop corn ceiling has to go, but is only in two rooms, about 1000 sq ft.

If I remove them myself, how fast will I die?

Tiles aren't friable. They're not particularly dangerous.
>>
>>1136382
With tiles, should I still get the hepa filter vacuum and special face mask thing, or can I just go to town?
>>
>>1136381
Popcorn ceilings didn't always have asbestos in them. I lived in a house built in 1971 and it had styrofoam popcorn ceilings. If you peel off the paint on them and they are white and fluffy inside (picture related), then they are perfectly safe and can be left alone. Well, unless you think they are ugly as shit because they are.

Funfact; Popcorn ceilings were popular because people thought the improved the soundproofing in your house and kept sounds from bouncing off the ceilings. That's why they were sometimes only in hallways and bedrooms; places where you wanted quiet.

>asbestos tiles in the basement
Have you had them tested? Laminate flooring has been around a long time and has been made of many different materials. The reason asbestos flooring was so popular was because linoleum, the first common laminate flooring, was pretty flammable. PVC laminate flooring has also been around for decades.

So I stuck a 12V electric (probably DC?) motor into a wall socket in my garage and the power went out.

Turned off all the breakers and it's still out. I know, it was dumb.

I don't want to know how to fix it as much as I want to know what's wrong and what happened.

>Turned off all the breakers and it's still out.
Did you turn them back on again?

>I want to know what's wrong and what happened.
The device was made for 1/10th the power you put through it and DC only at that. You blew it up. This likely caused a short. The short tripped your breakers. Turn the breakers to the off position and then to the on position. That will reset them. if you still don't have power and the main breaker isn;t tripped then you need to call a professional.
>>
>>1135985
If you have a sub (fuse..) panel in your garage - assuming all the breakers are on, this entire maybe seperately fused on your main house panel. Basically, check every breaker you can find, if its really old wiring etc. its maybe on a non-resettable fuse (blown) somewhere as well. But hthat nothing ever works, ever again, its unlikely.

Try resetting any and all gfi switches in your house the outlets with the test and reset buttons in the middle they are usually in the bathroom and kitchen Goodluck

Is it possible with bleach to get it as white as pic related and have a decent looking black T-shirt with the Neo Geo logo on it?

Not sure where to look and my google results haven't yielded anything useful, so I thought maybe this community would know something. I'm not really familiar with electronics like this.

Basically I want a fan that's powerful and can be precisely controlled. Perhaps something I can stack on top of another to create more force if one isn't enough. I essentially want to experiment with wind simulation, so optimally the fan would be easily controlled through software and be able to change speed fast. And optimally the range of force would be from as light as a breeze to as powerful as we can reasonably get for cheap projects.

If there's anything commercially available I'd love to know about it but again I haven't found anything on Google personally.

I am new and know nothing about what the thing in which I'm looking for. What would I go back to school for? That would not help because I am seeking for possible advice about 1. what kind of options there are or aren't on the market and 2. to know at a glance what range of options may be possible with some DIY but inexpensive work. I'm not asking for something within some spec, I'm looking to see what specs are even available for the kind of application I'm going for, which I believe I specified with enough specificity.
>>
>>1135916
a)no idea what the fuck you want to do
b)you will just have to make it yourself, if it was even available commercially, it would be very expensive

Please help?

I just installed a legacy la590 ( https://www.amazon.ca/Legacy-Performance-Channel-Bridgable-Amplifier/dp/B00005Y6OL ) to a single alpine type R12 ( https://www.crutchfield.com/S-Lphsd7pkq3N/p_500WR1522D/Alpine-SWR-1522D.html ) Exactly those models...

Im using 8 guage wire.. the amp turns on with the radio telling me my remote/power/ground is ok, but as soon as i connect my speaker wires it goes into protect mode and wont give me anything. This is not true for the RCA cables

Basically i can connect everything except the speaker wires, as soon as i connect the speaker wires, the amp goes into protect. Im not very experienced but i think i matched up the sub-amp ok.. or is this an impendance/ohm problem?

Maybe im not wiring them correctly? i bridged the two outside ports (+,-) of the woofer, and connected the two middle ones together with a banana connector thingy. basically a wire. following the drawing on the amp i matched the two outside ports with that of the sub, bridging them... did i do something wrong?

I havent used this set-up before, so the speaker could actually be damaged but as far as i can tell its in good shape..

Any help is greatly appreciated :D

I have it wired up like in the picture, except my speaker says 2ohm 2ohm near the ports not 4ohm 4ohm. Using speaker wire to connect the sub to the amp.

>>
Your trying to vridge your speaker to one ohm. You should just run each channel to each speaker coil. At 2 ohms each your amp is rated to support it. No need to bridge it. The amp cant handle it.
>>
so basically run the two left ports on the sub to the two left channels on the amp, and the 2 right to the 2 right channels, correct? this should take my amp out of protect mode?
>>
Op here. I just tried running each channel to each speaker coil.. The amp is STILL goes straight into protect mode... ..

the green light goes on for a sec then the red one takes over and the green fades away..

Im really not sure what to do , any suggestions?

like i said the amp powers green whenever the speaker wires are not connected. I can connect one of the wires, stays green, as soon as i connect another wire to the amp channels it goes red.

Does anyone here know much about tie-dying? Got an idea after buying a tie-dye set.

I'm trying to make some shirts but I'm not having much luck, I've tried Rit dye, and now I'm trying dylon, but the shirts keep ending up faded as fuck

My method:
1. Soak plain white cotton shirt in water/sodium carbonate (soda ash) solution for 20 minutes
2. Bind shirts according to pattern with rubber bands
3. Apply dye to wet shirt (dyes are in 118ml bottles, 8mg powdered dye dissolved)
4. Leave for ~24 hours in plastic wrapping = moist
5. Cut binds (at this point the shirt looks good, colour is okay), wash shirt in water (i've also tried a salt solution) to remove excess dye
6. Put shirt(s) in washing machine with small amount of washing powder (i've tried low and high temps)
7. An hero when shirt turns out faded as fuck

Help a bro out /diy/, can anyone give me some tips? another method? a better dye brand? Call me a faggot and tell me what I'm doing wrong?

Btw the shirts I made with the original tie-dye set turned out great, it's just the shirts i've been trying to make with new dyes

Pic related, not one of mine

Used Dylon recently with good results - I'd suggest you make the dye stronger, just add less water.
>>
>>1135698
I have dyed with dyes that you use in a washing machine. You just replace the washing detergent with the dye. The hotter the wash the stronger the colour. Instructions in the package.
>>
I have done it a few times and I plan on doing it again soon.
Proper prep is probably the most important thing, lots of sites and youtube video's on how to go about it. Start searching.
Rit Dye for me was the cheapest bu the worst out of all of them. Colors would not stick and would bleed over each other no matter how well prepped it was, ending up as faded and muted motly colors. Also colors not very bright, not enough "pop".

Jacquard dyes were a good and evenly priced option that worked well. Expect to get dye everywhere.

Say if I wanted to grow a plant within a wardrobe, and that plant required an extractor and a 200w light within the wardrobe as well that is running 24/7.

1) What are the chances of a fire if set up properly?
2) Is it possible to just buy a cheap wardrobe from Ikea and then cut holes for potential extract fans and intake fans?
3) if intake fan is at the bottom, will it become clogged with dust from carpet?

Thanks guys

It will work out just fine. I grow in my cabinet from ikea with a 100w light
>>

>>
>>1135660
If setup "properly", chances of fire is zero.

You can cut an IKEA wardrobe, yes, there is no physical law that prevents you doing that.

Whether a fan will be clogged by dust is 100% yes over a long enough period of time. Carpet don't produce dust, but dust (from other sources) tends to float down by gravity and the floor is generally a dusty environment the lower you get, dust are flung about by air movement like tumbleweed in a desert, that is why dust gathers together and eventually a big enough crumb will find its way to your fan.

1. What are the first three planes a n00b should get?
2. New or used?
3. If used, how do you find a good one? What are some things to watch out for on a plane?
4. If new, are the pricier planes worth the money (Lie Nielson, Clifton, Veritas, etc)?
5. If used, what do you do to bring the plane back to working order (besides sharpening the blade)?

Thanks,
t. n00b

1.for what purpose?

If you have the time and tools to invest in fixing one by used if you don't buy new.

Old.planes just buy old Stanley's or preferably old Stanley Bedrocks

Pricey is worth it for longevity and for the occasional fine tuning to deal with seriously hard or curly timbers.

First three planes should be a 4 or 4.5 smoother, a block plane, a 5 5.5 jack.

That will get you through most stuff if you're breaking down and truing lumber by hand you should look at a 7 instead of the 5.
>>
>>1135542
Power planer. And a number 7..

Power planer takes some tuning and a big metal file to get to a point where its worth dick.

If you NEEDED a third. Either a rabate plane, or a chisel plane.

It really depends on what your doing. But the power planer is my best friend...

I get timbers from tree services. Cut them up with a way too small of a chainsaw, free hand into slabs. If I need them smaller, skill saw, if i need them straighter. Table saw. And I finish them off finally with the power planer, set too where its just barely taking off fibers.

What is the best way to attach my ford emblem to my car?

Should I just use super glue? It's on a piece of metal with no paint so it wouldn't affect any paint

Is there a better way of going about this?

It can, but it will be very fucking slow. Many passes
>>
>>1134615
Focus is the most important thing. The laser isn't going to cut anything if it isn't focused spot on (speaking of sub-millimetre precision).
That's why it's really important your x and y axis are parallel to the workpiece. A small offset on one end will ruin the cut.

How did you get your first job as an apprentice? I'm doing a pre-apprenticeship program (electrical) but I don't know anyone in the industry, and there isn't a lot of work where I live anyway. My plan is to move to a big city, cold call as many contractors and electrical firms as I can, but also get a job as a construction worker and see if I can find any networking opportunities. Is that a legit plan or am I shooting in the dark with little chance of getting anything?

Jesus, I wish it was that easy. No one seems to hire apprentices, it's like you're SOL unless your dad or uncle is a tradesman.
>>

Thats really true with unions. I got waitlisted from 2 separate IBEW locals within 6 months.

So I went to trade school at my community college for HVAC. I am a good student and got good grades my first semester and the head of the program lined up 3 interviews for me.

3rd company hired me a few weeks ago. I only have 1 semester of trade school (15 weeks) and my only previous job was in a grocery store.

You still have to know somebody, but its easier to prove your worth and meet people at a trade school.
