Why does my cat always do this? She just lies on her back, completely frozen. She can lie on the floor for 20 minutes without blinking an eye.
Excepg when I walk up to jer, then she starts flipping her paws, chirping and rolling on her back.

I am a bit worried, is something wrong with her?

>>
If this is a real question.

She is just probably sees a bug (or thinks she does) and might be watching it. My old car would sit for half a hour just staring at a random little spider that wandered in. If it moved or I did she would chirp.

How do I keep kids out of my yard? I have told them twice now that staying out is for their safety. There are "no trespassing" signs and "beware of dog" signs. My two dogs are not aggressive at all except playfully so and haven't injured anyone but who knows. Now, the kids want to let their puppy play with my dogs and one of them jumped my fence and came up to the door. While my dogs were outside. I have talked to their parents and told them they can't do it (once their mother walked through the shut gate despite signs and, well, a shut gate) and it isn't working.

I'm getting annoyed because I don't want anything to happen to my dogs.

My friend is getting a Border Collie x German Shepherd.
He currently lives on his grans sofa in a small house, and apart from them three other people live in the house, one a small girl and the other two being autistic. The real kind.
He works a full time job and hasn't told anyone else that he is getting this dog, basically, how fucked is he?

How do you guys feel about leaving your dog in one of these things? I'm thinking about adopting an adult dog, but I'm single and I'm away for 9-hour shifts during the week and the occasional night out on the weekend, so I'd probably build one of these in my backyard and leave dog out there when I'm gone. Is this something that is okay or is it frowned upon by experienced dog owners?

Why not just build a dog house and let the dog roam free in the backyard?
>>
How about instead of imprisoning your dog for several hours a day you instead train them to behave properly so you don't have to worry?
>>
>>2309099
Isn't the inside of a house also imprisoning your dog?

Why are puppies so cute but say, eaglets, so ugly? Both are just smaller versions of the fully-grown animal, but yet one manages to look appealing while the other not so much. Of course this doesn't happen only with dogs and eagles, it was just an example, but you could say the same to kittens and owlets, or foals and rat pups. And don't say that's because they're birds and we are mammals, because ducklings are cute and very young joeys are ugly, for example.

>>
Because birds that don't start out fully functional focus on getting to adult size as quickly and efficiently as possible.
Also this might come as a surprise, but baby animals aren't catered to be cute to humans.
>>
God made them that way
>>
formula for baby cute is all adult functions in smaller package. Blind kittens are ugly. Fuzzy stage rat pups are cute. Human newborns are the ugliest of them all, but freely running and talking toddlers are cute. Running around trying to fly (visually fully functioning - with all the flight feathers) fledglings are cute.

Hey, /an/, /k/out/ here. I was hoping you could help me out. Me and my girlfriend are planning on moving in with each other sometime soon, and when we do we would like to get a dog after we get settled in. We both currently have dogs at our parents houses, but we have decided not to bring them so we don't separate them from our other dogs. She, however, is bringing her cat, so its kind of understood that getting a dog is going to be my thing. However, I have concerns about what breed to get. Mainly, what breed would be best suited for dealing with the seasons where we live (southern middle Tennessee). I'd like a large breed for sure, as any dog that weighs less than 50 lbs is a cat and we'll already have one of those. Ideally, I'd like something that would be able to tolerate both the summer and winter weather and would be able to go with us when we go /out/. Also, I'd like something that would be able to scrape by if something terrible was to happen and we were no longer around to look after it. I'm not planning on dropping it off on the side of the road somewhere if it doesn't work out or anything like that, but I would like to know that if something catastrophic does happen, our dog could possibly be able to survive without us.
>tldr: what are my options for best SHTF doggo?

First breed that came to mind was a German short-haired pointer.

Eager to please, athletic, loyal, and a short, low maintenance coat. They're also great hunting companions, if you're in to that

Not bad. Defiantly aesthetic. Wow tolerant are they to the cold and wet?

You can just not have a dog.

Okay I'm sure you guys get this shit all the time but please bear with me, I had this little troublemaker come up to me and start rubbing up against my leg and then trying to climb up it when I left a restaurant, I didn't have the heart to just leave him out there in the cold so I've wound up bringing him home. got him some food, water, and a litter pan, all that shit.

He ate some food and drank water, so he doesn't seem to be ill, but he has a watery eye and some gunk there, and he sneezes every once in awhile, so I'm most likely gonna take him to a vet soon. But here's the thing:

I can't keep him, right now I'm actually unemployed so I can't really afford to take him to the vet, the only reason why I took him home was of the damn cold and the fact he was stuck on my leg. Would a shelter take him in? There's a local one nearby that seems to have a good reputation but I've never done this sort of thing. I know it was stupid to take a stray in but fuck this winter.

So I guess for a tl;dr: took a cat home, can't keep him, what's the process for bringing him to a shelter. Pic related is the cat

Cat has a higher survival chance with you as its guardian. You never know if they will find a good family for him/her in the shelter.
Also if cat food is a bit too expensive, feed it meat from the table/kitchen. scraps etc.
>>
>>2311116
Well the other problem I have beyond the vet bills and stuff is my apartments don't allow pets unless it's like, a medical thing. I guess I better start calling people and asking around.

If I could, I'd keep him, he's a nice cat and affectionate as hell, his farts are fucking awful though

Had a dog that used to be abused. We believe she was a terrier-"fluffy" dog mix lived with us in a flat(apartment). She used to live with my sister after she saved pebbles(the dog) from her abusive tenants. She only pooped when we took her out like twice a day(she flat/apartment). When she did make "accidents" in the house the poor thing would hide until we removed her "sin". I was a child and my parents decided to go with my wishes. I'd never bother now putting an animal through the unconventional blah blah. Though the dog was always no problem.
I'm just wondering because like every person with a backyard has dogs and they don't seem to have any of these meme problems. Is america just retarded? I'm guessing your nationality

I can beat everyone. Ex-boss's on/off wife got rid of two Siamese cats because they didn't match their new furniture. Her old furniture was 'asian styled' and her new ones were 'french styled'.

Between the both of them, in a span of four years they got and got rid of
>Two cats
>Their old, sweet pitbull that was the husband's. Husband went on a heroin binge somewhere, wife took the kids and two of their three dogs. Wife left the dog with no food or water for three days until she told us she left the dog there because 'it want her responsibility'. When husband came back they made hell about getting their 'precious dog' back but the people(it was either a shelter or their friends I forgot) refused.
>Mini poodle(also very sweet and behaved but he growled ONCE at her then 9 year old who was swinging him around and said he had to go)
>Some shit tzu mix who was the sweetest thing(she gave him to the lady who she gave the poodle too and even she said "I don't know why I did that. I just said 'oh you can have this one too')
>Four baby red eared sliders they got from a guy selling them on the street(her 10 year old got salmonella. I rehomed her turtles to someone else with a 300 gal turtle tank and when I saw their current tank it was 5 gallons , no filter, no land, no heater and the turtle shells were rotting)
>Puppy store 'goldendoodle' which she returned before she even left the parking lot because 'his penis was hanging out, infected and smelled horrible'.
>Traded it for a German Shepherd puppy who lived in a 4x4ft yard then 'ran away' two years later after it attacked too many people
>A rabbit
>Two guinea pigs
>Tegu
>Burmese python
>Pitbull/maybe pitbull mix was repossessed by the rescue they adopted from after they found out about the first pitbull
>Scarlet macaw (I hadn't seen her brought to work in awhile and no one had been mentioning her, so I asked. He said she was fine at home and a friend of his had been next to us said "I thought you got rid of him?"

Hello /an/, I'm fostering a lone kitten and if anyone can think of anything that would help please let me know. Due to foster contracts I am not allowed to bring this guy to another vet. And while I would break contract to bring it to a vet anyway, I don't have the money for it hence why I'm fostering animals instead of owning one. Shelter's vet doesn't come in Saturday so I'm waiting for Sunday at 9.

So first here's the problem; kitten is 4 days old today and this afternoon started to fade. He was eating fine until about 2 pm today, he didn't eat well. I didn't freak out much because he usually eats a big meal and then only eats a little in-between. But the last decent meal he had was around noon. He became lethargic and weak and refused eating. I was told by the shelter vet to not give him anything but kmr, but I'm really tempted to try and give him some sugar. This isn't my first rodeo with bottle babies that are days old but I will admit I never had bottle babies this young live yet.

I keep him warm, I make sure the milk is luke warm, I make him pee and poop (although he is bloated so he might need to poop more). I keep his head up while drinking and I do try not to feed too fast. They told me the guy is 2 days old when I picked him up, but it looks like his eyes are beginning to open and his one ear is beginning to stand up straight.

So his story is his mom gave birth, but the mom was not taking care of the babies. I was told by some people they believed a baby was stuck in the canal and mom got shocked from it and died. Other people say the kittens died from illness and then the mom rejected the rest. Others say they just spayed the mom and assumed someone would take care of the kittens after mom wouldn't produce milk due to the spay. I have no fucking clue which story is right or wrong.

Anyway I was contacted after every other kitten died because they couldn't find a foster. I was told the options were to foster the kitten or euthanize it. At the time he looked healthy and strong and still had an umbilical cord so I said fuck it. May as well give it a fighting chance, even if it's mortality rate is very high. At the very least if he dies overnight it would be quick and on a weekend. But hopefully he won't die.
>>
Find a cat momma to adopt it.
I tried to bottle feed newborns too. they all dued. ones i found furry moms for grew to adults
>>
>>2310886
Yeah I asked around and couldnt find any momma cats. As sick as it is, the shelter used to have this semi feral cat that had babies, and after those babies were weaned we plopped orphan babies on her and kept doing that for months. She just kept producing milk. And once she didn't, she was euthanized for being feral.

I'm going to be pissed if I found out they spayed a healthy mom to save some cash and then begged me to take care of the last baby.
