/herp/ reptile classifieds for finding breeders of various scaled and sundry creatures

>kingsnake.com
>faunaclassifieds.com
>reptilescanada.com (Canadian breeders)
>Also check to see if there are any annual reptile shows/expos in your area as these are good places to find good animals from good breeders at partial discount

/herp/ officially official all purpose care sheet of wonder and magic

>sand a shit
>use a thermostat
>read all the caresheets
>set up your tank before you get your herp
>regulate temps & humidity levels prior to herp arrival
>do not fuck with (handle) your herp for at least 7 days after bringing it home and ideally wait until herp has eaten at least one meal (for snakes), two meals for lizards, frogs, etc.
>PVC tanks are way better for most applications and worth the extra money
>it is best to avoid chain pet stores when looking to purchase live animals as mass breeder suppliers are not especially careful about health and sound genetics... it often saves you money long term to spend a little extra up front to get a healthy animal

My bf wants to get a shiba inu. Are they good for first time dog owners? We just moved in together and are getting our first dog. He wants to name it Bushido. Also are they good for apartments? We're not sure if ours allows dogs but it's should be okay as long as he's not obnoxious Lol

Hey /an/ I don't come here often but I thought I'd ask since it has been bugging me since it happened.

My dog died a few days ago and it was so very sudden, the day before she seemed fine and then she kept losing her balance, seemed like she wasn't able to walk correctly without flopping over. When my dad picked her up her breaths were already shallow and we rushed to the pet hospital but she had passed on the way there on my lap.

What could have taken her so fast without warning like that? she was about 14-15 maybe some sort of cancer?

pic related was my dog.

Sup /an/

I have space for a small 3 gallon aquarium on the kitchen countertop of my new apartment. Any good ideas what to put into it?

Needs to be quietish, low maintenance, and not generate flies or odors. I've raised poison dart frogs, tarantulas, centipedes, 100+ gallon fish tanks, etc. Learning how to keep it alive won't be a problem. Assume reasonable price is not a problem (same with tank)

First thought I had was a betta. Any other good suggestions?

Betta is good, but you also could do African dwarf frogs or shrimp or snails if you want an aquatic setup. If you do live plants with any of those, it could be really pretty.
>>
>>2309500
A more unusual fish might be Dario Dario, the scarlet badis. They often need live food though, as some reject frozen foods.
>>
>>2309500
at that size your best bet is sticking with inverts. Shrimp and snails would make a much cooler setup than a single beta. Much more action.

Hi,

I came for little help here since I'm not an expert. I want to identify this bird that came through my window almost 9 years ago. I'm from colombia near Ecuador, hope that helps to narrow a bit the search.

Pic very related, and two more.

From what I can find, it seems like a magpie tanager (Cissopis leverianus)

They should be native to your area and live in small flocks

My dog got into a fight today. I'm pretty sure she started it (she was initially pinning the other one, then after about 10 seconds ran away while the other one chased her snarling). Me and the lady split to opposite directions of the field to continue our respective walks. I assume her doggo is fine because she had about half an hour to wave me down if not.

Both females, same weight and size, both 15 months, both herding crosses not known for animal aggression.

Do some dogs just fucking hate each other? Mine was socialised as a puppy, plays okay with or ignores other dogs and has never started a fight before.

Sounds like it wasn't much of a fight and no one was hurt. If you didn't see what started it/triggered the conflict, it's hard to say why it happened.

But there are lots of reasons two dogs might get into a conflict/scuffle. Maybe one of them was guarding a resource (food, toy, etc.) Maybe one of them was getting in the other's space in a way that wasn't appreciated. Maybe the way one of the dogs communicates didn't translate well to the other dog and they misunderstood each other until one of them was uncomfortable/felt threatened. Who knows. But it's relatively normal for dogs to communicate that another dog overstepped some kind of boundary with some growling/snarling/snapping. Sometimes these little conflicts can escalate and look a bit more scary/flashy. It doesn't mean they necessarily "hate" each other, just something went wrong in their interaction so they had a scuffle.

I wouldn't worry too much about it. Just make sure to be vigilant when she's around that other dog in the future, and if you see there is some kind of tension between them, avoid having her interact with that particular dog.
>>
In my experience some dogs just don't get along no matter how well socialized they are.

My husky girl likes other dogs. The only two scraps shes ever been in have been with other female huskies, oddly enough. I've watched the other two dogs she's fought with and they seem as friendly towards other dogs as my girl. Now I just have an unspoken agreement with their owners to give each other a wide birth if we pass each other on the street/at the park.

I've also met dogs at the park that hate dogs of certain genders/breeds. I assume that kind of behaviour is due to some kind of traumatic event though.

Dogs need space to get acquainted OP. Sounds to me like one of the dogs invaded the other's personal space, most likely the other dog which caused your dog to retaliate.

My female Golden Retriever is ok with dogs being around her but she might snarl and lunge at a male if he gets too close with his nose to her hind area, she might do the same to a female if she gets too close to her face, even her best friend.
