I looked at my girlfriends phone last night and I noticed that her and my "best friend" are sending eachother big walls of texts at least every few days. I've always been uncomfortable with how close they've been but I didn't realize just how much it was. Ok so for reference I went about a year and a half with almost no sex drive. I was 20, so that is definitely saying something. Ok, so I'm studying at a film school, and for a proyect they asked us to write a script that we would later make into a movie, short-film or whatever it was intended to be. So I based mine on a visual novel I had read before (Not really into that kind of stuff, but I found out the story was actually pretty good) that I thought would work pretty good. I showed it to my teachers and they really liked it, so they said we could make it. If it turned out good, we would upload it to Youtube or show it at a film festival. But one day I wondered if there was any problem to make it, and I found the proyect was under a Creative Commons Licence (more specifically Attribution Non-Commercial No Derivatives) and I was wondering If there was any major problem if I made this short film. To clarify: I changed some elements of the original story and added some things. I also wanted to use some of the music as well. All of this would be, of course, credited to the makers. To avoid any problem, some people told me to make a "rip-off" of the story, without using any of the original names of the story, and basically using the same story but changing bits and pieces. I would like to avoid that, but if there was no other option, would THAT be possible? It would be a pain in the ass, but I think I could make it work.

You certainly have to know that you can't use music without a license from and payment to the composer.

Find the basic core of your story - "Hero has to save the world before a deadline" or whatever it is - and dress it up in wholly original clothes (setting, characterizations, background) and you're fine.
