What's the deal with fairies in Zelda?
You have one that follows you around everywhere, pointing out things you already know, but won't do anything actually helpful. Then you've got these other fairies that heal you and bring you back to life, seemingly ending their own life to do so. Yet these pink fairies who will sacrifice themselves to save you get unceremoniously caught and carried around in a little jar. And not only does the fairy that follows you around the whole time not care that you're doing this, but the pink fairy will still sacrifice itself to save your life even though you treat them this way.
And yet the fairy that's supposed to be helping you on your quest will just let you die.
I'm pretty sure the fairies don't die, they just vanish.

Still doesn't explain why Navi won't heal you. Or why she's okay with you kidnapping fairies and holding them in little glass jars. Is it like that whole Pluto/Goofy thing where Mickey has a dog but also has a best friend who is a dog? Are pink fairies less evolved or something? They are just kinda hovering over water all the time like mosquitoes...
Wait I thought Link ate the faries.
Help /vr/ I've become obsessed with virtual pets and am genuinly considering shelling out for the Digital Monster v.20th, what ware some retro games about virtual pets? I alreayd picked up the Tamagotchi game for gameboy and pic related.
Ganbare Neopoke-kun. He makes games for you.
The tamagotchi game for Saturn. You get a little Sonic exclusive buddy in it.
Wonder Project J and J2. You raise a robot boy and a robot girl respectively. You could consider robots as pets I guess..

That looks dope as fuck, too bad NGPC's are expensive as hell, anyone have experience with the Digimon ver.Wonderswan?
>>3935806
I do. It's simple, easy but good if you like Digimon. I love the sprites.
Anyone else here grown up with the PS1 and slowly as you got older you began to prefer the N64 over it?
>>3932696
That's some Benjamin Button shit right there.
>>3932696
Not me, while N64 has some pretty good games that I enjoy, I still feel inclined to PS1 to this day.
No, in fact I don't even remember it existing some times. The N64 feels like a black hole in Nintendo's history where they really dropped the ball. Only someone who grew up with it would have any real love for it
Which 2D fighting game is the easiest to master?
>>3930047
Street Fighter 1. You master the game by turning it off and never playing it again.
Bump.
>be me
>want to play classics on Fightcade
>have to GIT GUD first
>but no time to grind 8 hours per day because I'm an adult
So what is the most time-efficient game for me?
>>3930047
The last blade. Its fun and very easy to learn. I've had multiple people pick it up and figure things out quickly.
Anybody have a build dedicated to emulation?
I have a Raspberry Pi with RetroPie that works fine but I want to have a more powerful machine that can emulate 3D games properly like N64, Gamecube, etc.
I put together a decent rig but I feel like $400-500 may be a bit overkill for this.
>>3928637
I find the best bet is to play GC isos on a Wii. A lot of good N64 games can be played on the Wii too, but if you want the full catalog go Everdrive.
>>3928653
You said it. It's nice that a decent PC can emulate all the way up through6th gen (and even WiiU)But if you just want an emulation box that can push into the later Nintendo games, Wii is the way to go and if you want to play all N64 games with no glitchiness the ONLY option is real hardware with a flash cart.
>>3928658
Yeah I thought about this (and actually have a Wii set up to do this) but what bugs me is Wii's 480p output. I'd like to be able to play high-resolution/upscaled GameCube games.

wow, people aren't kidding when they say FCEUX has the best NES color emulation. nestopia (last pic) is what I've been using for years, and it looks awful in comparison
>>3923625
Decent emulators let you choose a palette anyway, how new are you?
>>3923630
And? The stock palate that FCEUX uses is pretty damn good, ergo, it has pretty good color emulation.
>>3923625

Are you really this retarded, OP, or is this some next-level bait?
Have you ever beaten SMB1 without using warps, the 1-up glitch, or save states?
Yes but I did continue in world 7
>>3921959
dude, I even beat Lost Levels without warps, glitches or savestates.
Who the fuck do you think you're talking to right now? Reddit?
Yeah, while also skipping on mushrooms and stars in general.
this shit is ridiculous. why do people prefer sor 2 over sor 1?
>>3910987
Because they're not as insightful as you *supports OP on Patreon*
also I noticed I can't change directions while jumping, what the fuck. it was one of the best things to do in sor 1
There's less bullshit in SoR 2. Those women that fall over and make themselves temporarily invulnerable are the worst in SoR 1.
Plus the combat mechanics are more refined in SoR 2
This is the perfect game to me. I've never played it. I will never be spoiled by my suspension of disbelief. I've read the guide, watched the cutscenes, read about the book, and learned mitochondrial/molecular science all for this game. The story is perfect, the art. Everything.
>>3940720
It is a great game.
You should play it.
>>3940720
Why haven't you played it yet anon? Do you fear it wont meet your expectations?
>>3940720
>This is the perfect game to me.
Yeah, it's one of my favorite games too
>I've never played it.
Wait, what??
Does RetroArch Wii have any major advantages over the general, separate emulators people typically use, like Snes9xGx, FCEUltra, etc?
I was always comfortable with those old things, and the last time I used RetroArch Wii was aeons ago, when the thing was buggy as fuck.
Love my old Wii to death, dusting it off this week, wanna treat the old girl to the absolute best.
Any other advice/tips you guys might have on Wii modding would be appreciated too; I've been out of the scene since like 2009.
I finally did this to mine a few weeks ago. I use the standalone emulators for NES, SNES, Gen/MD, and GBA, and aside from the VBA having some speed issues at times, all of them work as perfect as I can ask.
Running them into my 20" Trinitron via component, they look godly.
I'm using the GC controller. Kinda funked with the Genesis being it had a 3/6 layout and the GC controller does not, but I make it work.
The Wii is a sorely underrated system.
Where else can you all but perfectly emulate the entire NES, SNES, and Genesis(on the games worth playing for all three), PLUS play the Metroid Prime series, WW, OOT+MM, TP, and SS? You can play the entire Zelda series on it in perfection. That alone makes it a wonderful little box. And it runs cool and quiet.
>>3940247
>zeldas
Except the DS/3DS ones, sorry.
>>3940247
Yeah, I think that the Wii is probably the best emulation device available outside of a dedicated Windows-based PC.
The Wii has a huge advantage over everything else simply for having so many built-in controller options - even with a PC, handling multiple controllers (for bros) can be a pain with emulators.
I guess I'm kinda hoping some anon will drop in here and tell me that the Wii port of RetroArch implemented some amazing new feature in 2015 which pushed it past the stand-alone emulators you find on the Homebrew Browser. Those things are fucking ancient.
What's a good price for a working cart and box?
>>3940214
One(1) bajillion dollars(USD)
I opened my eb in 2002 to replace the batteries. I had no soldering iron. My soLuton would make you people throw up. I will never tell a soul.

Do you guys use this site? Is it reputable/ accurate?
>>3939608
t.reseller trash
>>3939665
You saying you own every retro game you now and ever will care about?
>>3939608
This site is probably hated by /vr/ because it makes "ebay prices" more widespread (and convinces every loser with a beat up copy of a popular game that they have solid gold, because a mint condition CIB copy sold for $200), but it's still a useful resource for gauging the market value of an item. The site's algorithm gets confused sometimes by distinctions that should be obvious to a human, but you can check those cases yourself.
I use it for getting a ballpark estimate of how much I should expect a piece of hardware to cost.
I recently started playing this game. How can i manually control a unit? I only have the control to the main protag.
>>3939257
Just keep playing, you'll control more units in about 2 minutes
you can't control guest units, you'll get your own units soon enough
>>3939257
You're extremely early, you get a party soon enough
Fantastic gameI suck at it and I'm only on chapter 2 though
