apparently my thread disappeared
Who's looking forward to the remake of this?
I played the original a couple of months back for nostalgia and it's pretty annoying to play. Looking at it you would think it's easy but it's so annoying and bouncy with low amount of iframes.
It disappeared because it was a shitty OP.
I'm not looking forward to the remake, don't really like it's visual style.
Also, I'll repeat my question, for those who have played both versions of Monster Lair, what's better, Genesis or TG16?
the most annoying part of that game is that you have to stop or jump to get the coins when you kill an enemy. it completely ruins the rhythm. still looking forward to the remake because of dat OST

The MD version is not bad. but all the sprites are redrawn into a total different artstyle.
No more fatso glorious designs. Everything is skinnier on MD? I like the game but the definitive port go for the PCE
hey /vr/, is this a good fighting game?
Depends on your definition of "good." It's a very fun one, with interesting characters and nice visuals. If you think a good fighting game is one that's well-balanced for the sake of competitive play, then I have no idea how Waku Waku 7 stands up.
Fuck yeah it is
>>3939223
Go look it up real quick so we know.
What's /vr/'s thoughts on Starshot?
>>3938857
Giving a pity bump.
Only know it for that fucking ending. I don't if they were planning an ending but that ending is a bummer.
>>3940238
whats wrong with the ending?
>>3940435
The main character fails and is emprisoned, kimd of a bummer.

combos require no timing. just execute then as fast as you can and search for shortcuts at executing them.
Example: if a combo is down+forward kick followed by a QCF kick you make it like this
Start the QCF motion, when its at DF position press kick and when it goes to F position press kick again. I hope you understood.
Why even live: the thread
How can one git gud in this day and age?
Have wanted to get a famicom for a while but I'm confused when it comes to what I actually need to buy. I know I need a new RF switch, which would be this I'm pretty sure
https://www.amazon.com/Nintendo-NES-RF-Adapter/dp/B00475ABRQ/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1492847068&sr=8-5&keywords=rf+switch
with nothing else that connects into that.
But then I see mixed shit on power, whether I replace the ac adapter that comes with it, or that I have to buy something that converts jap power so it doesn't run hot.
The other thing I'm wondering is if the everdrive can play romhacks(translations) or if I should just not even bother because most loose famicom games are cheap.
Sorry for being retarded, appreciate any help
Get a sony crt free on craigslist, it will save you some hassle
>>3938529
That adapter (whatever the fuck it's supposed to do) won't even plug into a famicom. You need something that has an RCA male plug on one end and whatever connector the analog tuner in your TV takes on the other.
You see mixed shit on power because the internet is full of underage fucks with no experience who parrot what other underage fucks with no experience say. You can plug your jap AC adapter into your US mains and it will work fine. I have shit I've been using like this for 30 years.
The ED can play any properly done romhack. But you can get a buttload of famicom games for the price of the ED. Personally I didn't bother with the ED but I do have other things. Multicarts, old copiers, etc.
>>3938574
>You need something that has an RCA male plug on one end and whatever connector the analog tuner in your TV takes on the other.
Also something to deal with the issue that the Famicom's RF is tuned to "around" channel 95, meaning you're liable to run into issues getting it to actually tune to the proper channel.
More bothersome, but you might want to look into modding it for composite(assuming your HDTV still has composite) and just skip the RF adapter all together.
Just picked this up at a thrift store for $2. Is it worth a go?
>>3938437
Any game with a cover where three ppl share a single space suit helmet buried on Mars with that kind of expression is definitely worth a go.
I liked it. Played the PC version though. The enemies never die permanently (minus a couple exceptions) and they start getting back up after "killing" them ridiculously fast towards the end of the game. The black guy can actually mash fast enough to not be hurt by normal "zombies" when they grab you so it's best to do your dirty work with him unless you're forced to use someone else.
I heard it's pretty good
Was this series ever good?
Sure, dude. The original trilogy, CD, the two adventure games on the dreamcast... They're solid.
Never good. Passable at best.
>>3938419
This. Sonic was a series.
Are there videos or articles of any old game developer giving his insight on today's market of video games and video game development? I would love to hear their opinions and thoughts on how the landscape changed between the 80s and the current century.

I hope I can dig through all the shit and find good content
>>3938053
monkey island, zelda, and Deus ex devs are there. It's not bad.
How is this game?
I don't know if I've ever seen a more blatant copy of a game.
I started it and like it so far, almost seems cooler than RE in a way. I like that the vampires are fast.
If you like resident evil definitely check this out
>>3937928
i liked it a lot even tho i had to finish it like 4 times to get all the content out of it. if you finish the game once you really dont get much info.
>>3937928
RE3>RE2>Vampires>RE1
It's bretty good. Not enough bossfights though. Beating regular enemies involves shooting at it until it dies before it comes into melee.
Concepts are hit and miss. I liked the tranqualizer and money. Some weapons are cool. Too easy, ammo gets abundant fast, you can rape any enemy on screen. Still it had cool music and immersion was better than first RE.
I have a PS2 that can play PS1 games, a SNES, a NES, an N64 and a Wii that can play Gamecube games. I also have a Gameboy Color. What system should I focus my attention on? I'm only going to be buying games I want to play, and on that front, I have a decent amount of N64 games. I also have a few SNES games, but none of the heavy hitters, really.
Would you like to try emulating first?
PS1's good games are pricey, but will only get pricier, I suggest that.
SNES's best games are kind of the same way, I say get an everdrive though.
Nes/famicom are still relatively easy to buy for. I just got into 8 bit stuff, and have been buying NES and fami stuff depending on which versions are cheaper and how much text you need to play them. Boxed fami games are under 20 bucks a lot of the time.
Buy a fucking flash cart or just emulate. Don't fall for the collecting meme.
What condition do you consider acceptable when buying disk based games?
If ordering off the internet, mint/like new is the lowest I'm willing to go simply because of how many fucking times I haven't been able to get a refund. If I'm buying a used game at a brick and mortar store or from someone selling off their games, and it's a little dinged up, I will ask to test it on proper hardware with them present. If they say no, or it's past light damage to the disk, I will not buy.
if it looks like it's been through a wood chipper and I'm paying more than $8, I might not even buy it
if it's around $1 or less, who cares?
if there's a massive visible scratch, no-go
>>3937831
Exactly this.
If online, light better reflect off it perfectly.
What does /vr/ think of Die Hard Arcade?
I don't know what it is about this game, but everytime I boot it up, I laugh my ass off playing it even when i'm alone.
Best of all:
>Sega Saturn console exclusive
>>3937646
I played this shit on Mame last year and besides the Quick time events it ran fine.
The game is damn fun.
It's a reskin of Dynamite Deka.
Fun 3D brawler.
>>3937646
one of the greatest beat-em up ever made.
>Sega Saturn console exclusiveBut these a port for PS2 tho......
Is this supposed to be any good?
It seems to be a love-or-hate game and I've played through the first few levels which have been a pain in the ass.
Does it get any better? What is your opinion on Street Fighter 2010?
It's an interesting concept, but with many flaws. It gives you a lot of different ways to attack and very cool acrobatic moves—rarely seen in NES game. It also has quite different missions, again unusual for NES games. However, it doesn't *quite* manage to pull all of this off perfectly. The controls can be a pain in the ass very often, while the enemies are incredibly fast and dangerous.
Unfortunately, I'd say the latter killed the game for me. It feels simply unfair sometimes. When you take damage, you lose your precious upgrades, making you way weaker when you're already pretty weak. In some areas I just plain don't know how you can win without abusing the game. It feels like they tried a game too ambitious and made it way too hard. It needed too much fleshing out for such a small game.

Play a real fighting game, scrub.
>>3937608
I hope you have either save states or a strategy guide if you didn't grow up playing it, otherwise be ready for some rage.
I don't want to, but I'm legitimately thinking of buying a couple N64 games from pic related because they have about the best prices I can find. Anyone else bought retro from them? What's been your experience?
GameStop still sells used N64 games?
About 18 months ago they started selling retro again, via online only. /vr/ was raging hard about it when news first broke out.
I bought a copy of perfect dark from them for cheap, no idea if it works because lol no n64
bought a copy of koudelka for way below disc-only price, came almost complete with no manual, bought a complete copy of blue stinger, fear effect 2, and parasite eve 2, got some disc only copies of FFT, black label SH1 and alone in the dark ANN
all in all I got some great deals aside from FFT, but it's really a gamble with gamestop because you don't know if you're gonna get most of a copy of all of a copy or just the disc/cart
I'd buy more games from them if I didn't have to spend over $35 to get free shipping that sometimes outright gives you the wrong tracking code
ITT: Talk about your favorite arcade games that were never ported to any console.
Racing Hero is an excellent motorcycle racing game from Sega. It features branching paths like Out Run, and each stage is broken up into two parts. First a street section where you have to weave through traffic, then a circuit section where it's just you and the other racers.
It runs on the X board hardware, the same as After Burner and Super Monaco GP, and has incredible sprite-scaling visuals. The music is also very dynamic and energetic.
