Are any of these worth playing?
Play them once.
>>3941959
No.
>>3941959
Oh, and I could give you an explanation of why, but it would take a while, but I recommend finding out the weaknesses to all the bosses before you play.
The second installment is always the best or the one that introduces heterodox views to a saga:
- Mario 2
- Zelda 2
- FF 2
- DQ 2
- Castlevania 2
Deus Ex
>>3941498
Parasite Eve 2
Dino Crisis 2
>>3941498
Well it makes sense that the first sequel is where a franchise will attempt to spread its wings, try new ideas which either succeed and expand its scope or don't, resulting in a return to the original form. It's like the video game equivalent of second album syndrome.
>Colorful cast of characters
>Active and tactical battle system, not too complex not too simple
>Excellent music score
>Fun adventurous story and locations to explore
>Great moments of both high drama and lighthearted humor
Best jRPG?
It's not even close to being in the running for the best, but it's near the top of the "Not even close to being in the running for the best but still really great"-tier JRPGs.
>>3941428
Which games are in the running?
>>3941325
I like Grandia and Grandia II, OP. It's alright. I dunno about best, but it's definitely pretty good.
Is it true that old consoles expire in their boxes?
Wat.
>>3940765
Absolutely. Think of the 30 year old virgins spoiling themselves as we speak.
>>3940781
You're all right, anon.
Let's talk about Mega Man X1-4.
>Formulaic.
>Figuring out what boss is weak to what is purely trial and error.
But maybe they intend for you to play it as a straight action game, and if you discover a weakness, it's supposed to be a happy accident.
>The upgrades are in the same place every time, so once you collect all of them, the game becomes trivial, other than the last stages.
>Even then, if you know what you're doing, they could still be trivial.
>Fun movement mechanics: wall jumping, dashing, air-dashing...
>Huge arsenal of weapons in each game.
>It's fun to discover how they work.
>In X4, Zero is completely different than X.
>These games are typical Japanese style over substance.
>The gameplay is fine, but it's structured shittily.
>>3940763
Had this thread a couple of days ago.
Sorry you missed out
Are you the same guy who was complaining about LttP being too linear/not having an open world?
>>3940792
When was this? I don't think so. I agree that it's too linear, though.
Can you name any ripoff games?
>>3940745
I like the first one better than Karnovs Revenge.
>>3940754
apple vs orange.
The first karnov was a hell of action game. I love data east craziness.
Karnov revenge is one solid and fun Fighting game. you will be surprise how forward and still strategic that game can be. There is no open window for punishing on most S move. it a game based on heavy pressing and reaction of the other player. there is no limite or condition for "Special art" but they have a big open window for counter punishment.
That why nips still play the game. (Even here we had some local tourneys including the game )
>>3940816
I think he's talking about the first Fighter's History, not Karnov.
People throw the phrase "Street Fighter clone" around a lot when discussing 90s fighting games, but the first Fighter's History really fits the bill. The character select and win quote screens are practically identical.

Hey everyone who is interested. This is the anon in Japan from last week. Sorry I barely gave any updates over the past 7 days but I didn't have a chance to go to another store until this weekend.
For those who missed the last thread I live and work in Japan and recently I've started going to stores that carry retro games and gauging interest on /vr/ if there is anything people are looking for. If you have a specific request you can email me at:
[email protected]
I'll post the pictures in this thread to :
https://goo gl/photos/vzXikcLGkwJBhz6n9
I also created a google sheet where people can leave requests:
https://docs.google com/spreadsheets/d/1FQVdn9kuzr-fB8BUoeZODLnrh8EDia_4SDWbtAAxVg8/edit?usp=sharing
For the anon who asked about a boxed Super Famicom, I should be able to ship one to the US for about 1900 yen (1500 without tracking but I don't recommend it) and the cheapest one I've seen recently is 4800 yen.
You can see the pictures in the google photos link but I'm going to dump some anyway for those who don't have a gmail.
>>3939985
This store's prices aren't quite as good as the one last week but they have a "junk" section where you can get some pretty good discounts. Yesterday I found the Sega Saturn light gun for 100 yen.
Unfortunately they were kind of picked over. Hopefully they restock soon.
>>3939991
>>3939994
What was your favorite party setup for this game?
Also FF7 discussion.
My 1st playthrough it was Cloud, Yuffie, and Cait Sith (named Cait Sit by mistake)
>>3939828
Cloud/Cid/Barret
Great offense and defense, bros before hos
>>3939843
Decent limits between the three of them too.
I NEED to know more about him, Nadera Bukichi, He has some amazing art, and if anyone knows where I can find anything about him, that would be amazing.
He used to make some BEAUTIFUL pixel art for eroge games (mostly).
(pic from a game called "star platinum")
Also if you want to know something take it to >>>/wsr/
A whole board made for finding sauce when the usual sources won't do.
>>3939640
Watch out everyone! We got a GATEKEEPER over here! This guy will totally PWN your ass if you don't listen to him! He had to spend two entire years in the bushes to learn about 4chan! TWO! That's almost twice as long as they claimed they lurked last year!
>>3939646
Shut up, anon.
Alright, let's have a favourite Arcade games thread
>>3939179
Short legs kung fu adventure is my favorite.
>>3939208
What?
>>3939179
Your game OP and pic related were the kings of CP System Dash. Such awesome games.
rate my famiclone, /vr/
No. >:D
>>3938657
fill those spaces at the bottom
>>3940697
with what? text describing the console?
>superfx patents expired
>hobbyists have had superfx games emulated for literal decades
>nintendo still can't manage to put a single superfx game on any of their virtual consoles
Explain this
>>3938342
Hobbyists aren't making bank on emulators
>>3938342
Nintendo is run by dinosaurs from the Showa era.
/thread
>superfx patents expired
What, really? When?
Why no WW2 scenario? Is it cause Japan lost?
Why no nanking rape scenario?
>>3938070
I really don't think Japan can portray WW2 with anything other than embarrassment and sadness, at least it's genuine, unlike the German fucks
>>3938070
Most of these were meant to be based on genres rather then time periods. Also I imagine that with a war theme it's a bit harder to have the sillier tone the game has without seemin weird.
If I had cut my last chain short it would have been under 5 minutes. Oh well.
Has anyone ever beaten puzzle mode?
>>3937920
>tfw you played this game religiously (and still do) so noone wanted to play with you as they'd get utterly destroyed.
Clear mode best mode
Also currently playing the original PdP version, cute fairies are cute.. I think I heard that one is somehow easier than TA, do I misremeber that?
>>3937920
I try to be V. Hard with no deaths at least once a week, and usually do
I've barely played any of the other modes though. Puzzle mode eventually became a soul-sucking tease.
>>3937920
I haven't played in ages, but I beat all modes on all difficulties. I also cracked the password system just by taking notes and isolating the variables, allowing me to make passwords that you couldn't achieve through normal play. I had one that takes you to the end of puzzle mode with zero time elapsed. If I ever find my old notes, I'll post my passwords.
