sup, tropics vs temperate zone, which do you say is harder to survive in
I say tropics, too many animals and diseases.
in temperate, just get ready for winter and among lone wolves black bears and cougers while avoiding grizzlies and thats it
>France is a red country
Heh, I didn't realize refugees were considered venomous.

KILL NIGGERS
Anyone walked it? Anyone want to walk it? Tips, tricks, stories, whatever.
I'm thinking about having a go at it before the end of August, when I need to go back to work.
>>1049138
Corsica?
>>1049138
Hi op, I would recommend you to wait for september or May/June. August will be crowded as fuck I heard. One of the best hikes I heard also. Enjoy les refuges avec des bonnes pates du bon saucisson et du bon pinard.
>>1050373
Yeaaaahhhh
>>1050384
Not too fussed about crowds desu. I usually hike isolated routes solo so I am quite interested in walking something that has more people on it.
However, getting to Corsica is turning out to be more expensive than I thought so I am probably going to look at walk all or some of the GR11.
why not simply throw it in the fire? i don't get it...
>>1047550
You split wood to make kindling so you can start a fire.
>>1047550
It is for entertainment purposes.
I never really bother with splitting wood down to kindling unless I'm making a base, normally there's enough dead standing branchs that I can get a fuck ton of kindling sized sticks.
I carry an axe anyways, batoning is fucking stupid.
Hey Spaniards I'm considering going there this summer to do a long distance trail, what do you guys have to say about the French way and the GR11? Can you camp along the trail? Also do any of these trails get to experience any decent "wilderness" as far as being away from any type of civilization?
Not spanish but hiked the GR trail that goes through Catalunya a few years ago. Did 7 days over one section and it was pretty boss. VERY quiet trails, as for wildlife - plenty of boar, also found some salamanders.
No problem with stealth wild camping, but please respect the fire ban and avoid solid fuels
>French way
It's the most popular one so expect a lot of people
>GR11
Didn't even know it existed, seems quite good from what I've seen online
>Can you camp along the trail?
It's illegal here in Spain, tho legislation changes from one autonomous community to other so check for the ones your gonna go through
>do any of these trails get to experience any decent "wilderness"
I wouldn't expect that from the french way at least
Can we have a thread about these little woodgas stoves?
Does anyone have one?
Are they as cool as they seem or total bunk?
I have one of the smaller ones. They're efficient but not too hot. If you want to do serious cooking you need to foil the food, put it inside, and keep the fire burning on top
>>1043175
They are nice in that they are small. Putting out the fire can be a problem if you are done cooking and don't want to wait for the stove to burn out. As with all these types of stoves, the larger they are the better they perform for efficiency and BTUs for cooking. Meaning that you shouldn't try to boil a gallon of water on a small stove. Try boiling 2 cups of water instead.
I prefer rocket stoves.
I have one that I made. You can make them pretty easily from a coffee can. They don't last forever but when one breaks I can just build another.
Chaga
Anyone else make tea or use as tinder?
Very good anti tumor, antioxidant, etc. Its the true tinder fungus. Will catch a cold spark and become a slow burning coal. Good for lighting fires in adverse conditions, or even transfering fire long distance.
I add a bit of the honey i farmed to it. I don't like it black yet.
Also i still can't describe what it tastes like...
>2 days
Really?
No one here has anything to say about chaga?
If you mix it with licorice root tea there's some sort of sensory synergy that tastes amazing. I'm in zone 6A in the southeast, friends find it regularly up on the Blue Ridge Parkway above 5000ft. I've never looked for it, but I do trade reishi for it occasionally.
>>1040720
Sadly there's no birch at my elevation. Jealous you have some within reach.
Ive heard reishi has some similar health benefits
Empty those pockets boy. Let's see what you carry
I'll take a photo later
Contents:

You carry a wristwatch in your pocket?
>>1032281

Gerber Dime, its seen quite the use, only the scissors died on me. keep in a shitty pouch on my belt as of now. Bic, Zippo on occasion. wallet aint too hot, its prob not going to survive the year. bought a fenix rc-5, its still kicking, desu. need a new watch, any ideas? needs to be waterproof and durable but cheap. used to have a casio but it died on drop from my dresser one morning, still bummed out from that. would like a more tactical looking watch.
TL;DR- shit, need watch, any ideas?
I'm a /k/ommando and new to /out/
I plan on camping and hiking often, so I need your guy's help picking out some new gear.
I got a budget of about $500. What can I get with this?
Self bump
>>1056249
Details on what you want to do. Otherwise I'll just tell you to get a kayak.
>>1056279
I want to get a GF but that will never happen. But when it comes to camping and hiking I like to hang out really cold places like Canada and the Northern USA.
How are these things?
I want to do a mountain trek up to 15,000 ft in Peru in one made by SPOSN.
For those who don't know, it's a Russian mountaineering suit made of windproof heavy canvass with a liner inside, so it keeps out wind and light rain.
God tier, I only hike in my slavshit
>>1056208
How wind resistant is it?
What do you generally layer underneath? Thinking of a Black Diamond hoodie fleece like pic related.
Temps drop to 15 F apparently at night.

bought this bag for $109
it was the cheapest thing i could find without buying online,
this is the only resoultion pic i can find of it
its a "Woods" brand bag, and this variation is called "patrol"
it feels like a lot of flashy shit and idek if i can return it because i already made a return with teh same receipt and the cunt stole my receipt for record keeping.
am i fucked? or should i try and get a store credit then get a better bag?
it has this spine thing called a "free flow system"
which keeps the bag lifted off my back for air flow or some shit, but all it fucking does is take up space in the fucking bag.
>>1053806
If you shop at Crappy Tire of course it's going to be shit, you'd probably be better off with a MEC bag for the price. That said, Woods made decent stuff at one point though so it might be all right. At least it's not World Famous or Misty Mountain or something like that.
I think the stitching is the main thing to worry about with lower end bags so bring a needle and some upholstery thread if you're worried. I usually bring some anyway just in case.
>>1053886
im inexperienced when it comes to bags,
is 40L standard?
in my bag so far i can fit a sweater, 5 shirts, a pair of thick jogging pants, 4 pairs of undies, 4 of socks, and a pair of shorts, plus a few small books, paper, pencils etc
I feel like there should be more room, but 5 shirts is getting excessive ig
im moving coasts and hitchhiking at the same time so im trying to minimalize without getting sentimental
My brother is determined to land a carp. The closest we've got so far was a snapping turtle. Any tips?
>20lb test
>Sweet corn
>Steel leaders
>Chumming corn
>No weight
>>1053793
Dough balls or "boilies", there are tons of recipes, the simplest is mixing bread with a little bit of peanut butter and water. Daytime is usually more productive, or at least less catfish biting.
>>1053793
>Steel leaders
This will spook the carp and why would you need one?
They have no teefus
>>1053793
Carp are greedy as hell, find a nice spot where you suspect carp may be feeding, or at least hanging out, and feed the water with plenty of bait to draw them in, anything oily will draw in the most, hemp seed works very well, then get your hook bait over your baited spot and wait. You could the use a second rod with light tackle to hunt the margines with a bit of dough, or even a flake of crust or dog biscuit on the surface if they are taking food off the top. I like to throw in a few floating dog biscuits every now and then to see if any come up to feed, and if they do then drop my bait where I last saw it feed and usually you will come up trumps
Hey /out/,
im slowly losing my mind, and im getting really paranoid about the future. where should i start on my journey to becoming a Ted K. and attempting to become self sustaining?

Emelie's channel is pretty comfy though.
She doesn't pretend to be en expert that "demonstrates" bushkek skills or does a lot of gear reviews.
She looks like a person that genuinely enjoys the outdoors.
Could you guys fucking stop trying to design this knife?
The SXB, the Jess-X, now the Master Woodsman by W Collins. When will people learn?
INB4 someone says "but those atr totally different knives" - they're not. It's the same damn thing - people trying to design a new blade shape with "multiple features", so you can have this part of the blade for cutting, that part of the blade for carving, another one for sawing, or circumsisions, or whatever.
And no mater how many times it's been tried, there's always some "genius" who thinks he'll be the one to "get it right"
