My brother is determined to land a carp. The closest we've got so far was a snapping turtle. Any tips?

>20lb test
>Sweet corn
>Steel leaders
>Chumming corn
>No weight

Dough balls or "boilies", there are tons of recipes, the simplest is mixing bread with a little bit of peanut butter and water. Daytime is usually more productive, or at least less catfish biting.

>Steel leaders
This will spook the carp and why would you need one?
They have no teefus

Carp are greedy as hell, find a nice spot where you suspect carp may be feeding, or at least hanging out, and feed the water with plenty of bait to draw them in, anything oily will draw in the most, hemp seed works very well, then get your hook bait over your baited spot and wait. You could the use a second rod with light tackle to hunt the margines with a bit of dough, or even a flake of crust or dog biscuit on the surface if they are taking food off the top. I like to throw in a few floating dog biscuits every now and then to see if any come up to feed, and if they do then drop my bait where I last saw it feed and usually you will come up trumps

And definitely get rid of the leaders, it would be an absolute miracle if you catch a carp with one of those on. You really want the lightest tackle you think you can get away with.

M80s work well. Also carp are garbage tier fish, dont know why he wants to catch them unless he wants a quick blowie.

It's the thrill of the fight. Here's what started it.

>Take him to a pond I fished at years ago.
>Tell him I caught a lot of catfish there. He has doubts.
>We arrive to see someone reeling in something big
>3 foot carp
>He also sees a large koi
>"I'm not leaving until I get that!"
>Manages to hook the koi twice.
>First time with a spinner. It just rips it off the line with little effort.
>Second time with corn. Gets it to shore. It snaps the line, he snaps his rod in a rage.

I've caught my first carp by total accident, with pic related, fake worm.
>>

Mix dry oatmeal and vanilla extract together, ball it up and put it on a large hook. You'll catch them in no time.
>>
>>1053793
well i got a few 20lb last time i went carping and a bunch of 8lb. the bait didn't seem to mater that much. where we tried they were out near the shore. like 30 feet from the shore. if you threw behind that tough luck. so it depends on the water temperature and stuff where you find them, when they are eating they eat just about anything. but carps eat mainly clams normally. so maybe try clams.
>>
>>1053825
yeah this! use braided line for the hook as it is less noticeable when wet and floating to the fish.
>>
>>1053945
when the water is warm and the surface is calm you can catch really big carp by throwing roll of bread crust the size of your palm on the surface. no need for anything just a hook on the line the big ass crust bundle, dip it in the water to give it weight and throw it in. it will disappear with a big gulp and then you can let it go a bit make sure the hook is stuck and start tiring.

Only niggers fish for carp.

>carp are garbage tier fish
yeah many people eat them here, i can't for the life of me understand why. there is only a couple of freshwater fish worth eating and they are all predators.

It ain't no carp, but he got his fight. Thanks, /out/!

Find somewhere that you know there's carp, throw dog biscuits in (the small mixer biscuits). If you see carp taking them then set up your rod with a surface controller float and attach a biscuit to your hook with a bait band and wait, it won't take long.

You can also glue a cork ball to your hook, they'll go for that as well, and you can reuse it.

I'm going to snag some carp in a minute using this method. Guaranteed catch

Your brother looks genuine and cute. Also that fish has got a fat belly.

>throw dog biscuits in
that fucks up the water only careless clueless retards use dog food as bait. it's banned on most lakes for a reason.
