How many of you anons have done it? How is it, and what should I prepare for?
I am thinking about doing it sometime next year, but I need to set up a pack and get some other gear first.

Wet, swampy, road walks, sleeping on picnic tables trying to stay out of the water when it rains.
I've never done it, but looking at some of the areas it goes through, I've done a lot of the Central FL areas. Go during early winter and pack rain gear. Expect it to be hot most of the time, even during days in Feb/Mar. At least it'll be dry (hopefully).
I am born and raised in swfl and still live there. Which part of Florida are you visiting
Is mountaineering really as dangerous as it looks in the movies?
>>1047626
I have a phd in mountain climbing
no
nah the lack of oxygen high up combined with extreme heights causing falls to easily be fatal combined with avalanches combined mountain ghosts don't really add up to a dangerous experience
>>1047626
no youre grand off you go
Knees on my Fjallravens are shot. Ideas how to fix them?
You sew a piece of fabric over the hole, or get your mother or a tailor to do it if you can't. Did you really need a whole thread for this?

>You sew a piece of fabric over the hole, or get your mother or a tailor to do it if you can't.
Haven't found any fabrics that seem appropriate. Lots of little field patch kits or denim jeans kits. I looked at 1000 denier nylon sheets but it's a little stiff. Not sure about 500 denier.
Did you really need a whole thread for this?
Yep.

Bigger patch of main material inside the knee. Nylon/cordura on the outside. Just stitch them. Broken parts stay inside the patch, maybe mend them too first.
Sup /out/, I haven't been here more than a few times but I figured this would be the best place for advice.
How does one go about dropping out of society? I'm just so fucking done with mortgages, stress and being shackled to a day job. I don't mind working a job, just not all fucking year week after god damned week. I am fairly /out/ savvy and have 100k funds and a decent kit of outdoor gear. I've been contemplating several get the fuck out ideas.
>Use 100k to buy a boat and live off the sea, work a few months a year to cover upkeep costs and expenditures
>Buy a geared out kayak and go somewhere with a load of rivers and natural game, but not too far from civilisation so I can journey back to buy creature comforts a few times a year
>Buying a piece of land, building a small house on it and farming the land
Does anyone have any suggestions/experience they can add? I'm trying to avoid taxes and unnecessary expenditures as much as possible. I can live without comforts like lights and warm showers but it would be nice to have them which is why I like the boat idea but I'm pretty open to ideas.

buy some land and build a homestead. i hear substance farming is a horrible life though so maybe just make yourself as autonomous as possible and work an easy part time job to buy food.

Always seemed fine with me, but then I don't act like a dick to them.
I've always been a bit curious as to why none of them have a tan...
Since I actually go off the trail I never encounter them

Not a shill, but woot has mosquito net hammocks for $10 today. $5 shipping, so you'd get a 10ft netted hammock for $15.
They also have regular hammocks for like $10-15 and an underquilt for $25. I'd pass on the underquilt since it's not a great shape, it's an ENO ember 2 knock off.
Ok its Kind of a shill, but ita a super cheap way for some people to try hammocks.
Youd need to buy or DIY your own suspension.
Also, general hammock talk I guess.
Can you link the underquilt please?
Nvm found it.

Hey /out/. Could you recommend me a good pair of boots for hiking/hunting/general /out/ activities?
I buy a pair of boots probably once every 3 months at least, and usually by then I've worn the hell out of them. I buy them mostly from Big 5 sporting goods for cheap because I go through them so quickly.
I live in central Washington (Longview) so the forests around here are usually wet and muddy.
Also, should I wear my boots snug and fitting, or a bit loose?

OP, get a pair of waterproof Chippewas. Those bad boys come with vibram soles and are made in the US. When you wear the tread off there are various services that will resole them for you.
Let's talk about homesteading.
My plan is to join the army for 5 years, save as much money as possible, work a little when I'm done to keep saving, learn as much about farming, survival, plants, etc. in my freetime, then buy some land and build a house.

Finding a like minded qt will help a lot too.

Hey fellow /out/ists,
I'm going on an all expenses paid Himalayan hiking trip to the Everest base layer and back. 10 days hiking with some travel days thrown in.
I'm a fat fuck with bad lungs and I'll use this shit to get back into shape.
Anydoodles... all expenses paid so can you guys come up with a good
Gear list? Travel dates will be February/march 2018.
Hit me with the good shit! I don't want to die out there and money isn't a problem.

I'm sick and tired of going on "extreme hikes" where every day is full of long hours, rough living, and the nights are a sleep deprived mess. How does one achieve the comfy hike?
If I'm not feeling "extreme" for the weekend I'll find some place on NF or BLM land that has pull of spots for rough car camping and is near the trailheads for a few good day hikes.
Drive out
Set up a comfy base camp
Spend the day hiking a few trails
Come down to comfy base camp, make a nice dinner and chill by the fire with a beer
Sleep like a baby.
>>1051534
Invest in ultralight equipment that is also still comfortable, like a really nice inflatable pad & quilt. That way you can pack luxuries like good food & beer without having to carry a 100lbs. Hike short miles and always plan an extra day into your trip so you can stop early if you feel like it.
And pack crocs for camp, those are nice to have.
>>1051534
Go on shorter trips
Bring a hammock
Stop being a pussy

Its a fish blind.
You hide behind it and cast so the fish cant see you and get spooked.
Is there any sort of device such as a tent within a tent that allows a camper to sleep without a sleeping bag?
In my head I'm imagining something like a coffin but lined with a down comforter and collapsible for transport. Does something exist?
Basically I struggle to sleep well when camping because my face gets cold, I can't sleep with blankets over my face or head inside a sleeping bag.
I also can only sleep on my stomach and require a pillow.
What tips or devices can I throw my money at that will help me not have camping be a fucking nightmare?
>>1051812
Nah, I might be a faggot for the OP, but I'm not that gay.
I've slept comfortably on bare concrete before, but for some reason I just can't sleep well when I'm in a tent.
>>1051814
then dont sleep in a tent you fuckin idiot

That girl is cute as fuck. 12/10 would impregnate and continues the white race with.
New gear I got Saturday. Penn Spinfisher V 5500 and 10' Offshore Angler rod.
hey /out/, redpill me on the mass disappearances at national parks, particularly the case of Dennis Martin. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=X8QZ0kNUhsk
This is just one example; google turns up hundreds of unexplained cases of people vanishing at national parks. Some of the cases are pretty horrifying and defy explanation. Are they all just natural and involve people getting lost? Are there really "wild men" that attack people and are not talked about by the authorities? It's actually kinda spooky, reassure me please.
