Didn't know which board this belongs on, but what are some of your favorite outdoors movies? I'm bored and feel like watching nice movies, also I've already seen into the wild.

So I my family has about 10 acres of land in central east Texas and I want to grow crops. Would Okra zucchini and cabbage appeal to you? The soil is pretty dense red clay with some boron in it (boron makes berries small)so there isn't really a whole lot I can plant. Maybe corn as well. Its planting zone 8a and I'm trying to think what I can raise that would make a good CSA package. Any suggestions?

Purple hull peas do great in that area and you could make good money selling them.
>>1043458
Talk to your local Ag extension. They give advice away for free!
>>1044938
This. Texas A&M agriculture extension has fuck tons of info about all sorts of shit like what to grow where etc.

At first thought it looked dumb but then I thought taking a car for a hike with me like a dog or something would probably be pretty cool doing flips and jumps

I'm in the piedmont of NC and even we're getting a shitload of wind.
What projects are you currently working on /out/ on your own personal slice of heaven? I would prefer keep this thread away from "I'm building a cabin" because there are a lot of threads to do with tiny houses and cabins etc. I want to hear about peoples' little passion projects.
Me and the guys I live with have thrown together a top bar bee hive, planning to throw up the bait boxes and hopefully catch a swarm in a couple of months (Southern Hem).
Also been making a forge out of an old industrial fan housing. We want to make our own arrow heads, knives, nails. Eventually move on to swords and shit just because we can.
Happy Summer Solstice, my friends.
Same to you and yours
Anyone else remember the Fenn treasure? Well apparently a second idiot has died looking for it. Of course the fact that this idiot was dumb enough getting killed trying to find is the fault of the dude that hid the treasure. How do people fuck up this hard when trying to replicate a hike that Fenn did when he was 80?

Just hearing about this too
how haven't I heard of this treasure before?
pretty cool, although I can't help but think someone found it already and fucked off with it silently, does make me wanna search for it though just for fun

Most likely, someone found it shortly after it was placed. Humans on Earth are like a kicked anthill. They go everywhere all the time and check out everything that's even remotely interesting. I know if I found it, not one other person besides me would know I had it.
What kind is it? He's also got a light red belly. Found in Northwest Central Indiana, US of A
>>1041901
It could be this red bellied snake native to Indiana, but the lighting in these pictures is very different. Should be brown or grey with faint grey stripes down it's back. Very small and eats worms, slugs, and snails. Shouldn't be a toxic bite threat, but it'd still have teeth.
Hey /out/ a while back I was talking about making a channel where I would be uploading underwater fishing videos, well here is my first video. Enjoy!

Eyyyy he's back! This is quite enjoyable and that camera's really cool. Looking forward to more!
So today I took my dad out to a lake he always brought me to when I was young. We have been here so many times that even though it has been 19 years, I still know where the weed beds are. I motor about 13 yards from the edge of the weed bed and me and my dad cast some minnows on a small hook, with bobbers 3 feet above them. The bluegills and crappies are biting good. We don't even notice the jet skis and speed boats buzzing us as we talk about the old times. The sun is setting and I slowly pull the boat toward the landing as dad backs the trailer into the water.
What's a surefire way to catch crickets in a trap?
>>1041184
Go get some night crawlers and put them in a 5 gallon bucket. Draws them like flys. I had a garage infested with them, happened to put some night crawlers(worms) i had left after fishing in a 5 gal bucket. Every damn cricket in that garage was in the bucket the next day
Buy crickets and put them in trap.

General thread for hiking the AT.
Heard on a podcast that it costs about $5k USD, does this number sound right to you?
>>1041150
The cost is merely derived from the life quality you want while on the trail.
>>1041151
This. And the amount of time you spend on it
Just did a week section near Roan Mountain; one of the prettiest places I've ever been.
You can go for cheap OP, you just have to economize your food. If you want tons of variety + fancy cookware, you'll be out of money and have too much weight.
I am getting in to fishing, I fish at rivers in Iowa. Since I'm getting back into fishing can I have tips about fishing I dont know all the basics. (I use a open reel pole)
