Could someone recommend a good, reasonably prices solar panel hat could be used in a rural setting?
Also what is some equipment that might be useful to buy alongside a solar panel?
I plan on buying one myself soon and setting it up in my parents' back garden to test it out and see how effective it might be.
I also plan on buying a battery pack too and other pieces of gear like that. I've heard that getting something that tells you when your battery is fully charged is a good idea, otherwise it damages it over time by over-charging.

This is more to do with self-sufficiency in terms of living off-grid in an isolated rural environment.
Solar is dumb.
Not sure if this belongs here or not, but gonna try my lucky anyways.
I'm wondering if anyone has any knowledge on these little vampire fuckers that would cause them to have an increase in who/what they target. Every summer I join my family in the usual outdoor activities (camping, hiking, swimming, etc) and my sister practically has to lather herself in all manner of repellent to try and deter mosquitoes, though it ends up being a lost cause. For example we could be outside for the same amount of time, I with no to minimal repellent and her with her deet bath and I manage to get maybe 1 or 2 bites in an hour and she manages to get around a dozen or more.
Our mom is a nurse and she and the doctor she works for have been trying to figure out why my sister seems to be a walking buffet for the bugs yet anyone else around her seems to be fine. Our only thoughts are she drinks a lot of tea so maybe something with the herbs and tea leaves is attracting them to her, or something to do with a few summers ago she managed to get bit by well over 100 times in a single evening and that somehow put up an all you can eat notice to the bugs.
At this point it is becoming a problem for her as she is constantly looking pock marked with all these bug bites and she is wanting to go outdoors less and less during the summer.

It's a common myth that it's based on blood type, but actually it's based on core body temperature. The hotter you are the more you're bitten. Gotta experiment around w mosquito repellants and see what works but past a certain point there's not much you can do other than pray for the genetically engineered bugs to fuck mosquitos out of existence in the next 5 years desu
>>1057262
Yeah we have looked up all kinds of things; odors, perfumes, blood type (we both have the same type so that one is definitely out), etc.
Dont know if core temp is viable in this situation as her temp usually runs a bit on the cold side whereas mine runs on the warmer side.
She has tried everything from standard repellent, to high deet concentration repellents and even some homeopathic/organic stuff and she still manages to get bitten regardless of what she has put on.

Wait
Who are the vampire fuckers?
The skeeters, or your family?
If it's the skeeters, the best thing is the barrier method
hey /out/siders, I've been an island/coastal boy all my life. What's the deal with lakes? I have had zero experience with them.
For the summer, I moved to western Massachusetts for 3 months and there's nothing but lakes.
Is any and all lake I find okay to swim in?
>>1057168
Depends if the water is cold or not
>>1057179
Its not freezing but it's on the colder side
>>1057168
>What's the deal with lakes?
Poorfag looking for good gear to browse. Cheapest/best website?
>>1057080
Any more there's not much milsurp worth buying. The Army modular sleep system and the USMC assault pack are pretty much it.
For everything else the civvy versions are better for the same or less monies.
If you want a cheap pack frame you can make one out of wood or PVC, and rig it like this vid.

Did you ever find yourself in a survival situation while /out/? Did you ever need to compromise and drink your own piss?
>>1056611
>need
Does it matter if it was just a choice instead of a necessity in a survival situation?
>>1056611
>drink your own piss
just for pleasure
Once I went fishing and I ran out of bottled water. So I took my sawyer mini and filter water from the pond.
Been offered this moken 10 fishing kayak for £300, I had a test drive yesterday and seemed fine just wondering if anyone has any experience of it/the brand?
>>1055551
That seems steep for a second-hand 10' yak. What sort of water are you looking to paddle? Pic semi-related, muh ocean yak.
If you want it mainly for fishing this is the way to go. More comfortable and almost impossible to tip over.

Hi sc/out/s I climbed my first big mountain today. Let's have a general mountain climbing thread.
>tallest mountain climbed
>general mountain activities
>favorite range/state/mountain
I'll post some pictures too
>>1053855
Long story short I was in Colorado for a week and climbed a 13,400' peak called Audubon Mountain in Roosevelt National Forest. I wanted to do Long's Peak but it looked a little too much for a first timer even though I am a pretty fit person.
Me and a friend hiked for 10 miles and climbed a little over 3000 feet, and I got some nice pictures in the process.
>>1053855
Climbed the middle one and the right one
Cascade volcanos are way different from other mountain ranges
I'm gonna attempt the South Sister in oregon whenever the snow fucks off.
I'm a noob with no experience climbing, even though I know this one isn't technical and is only like 10,500ft. It's got about 5000ft gain in the 6mi hike to the summit. I'm decently fit, but I have never done a hike with this much elevation gain, or hiked anywhere above 5000ft. How do I know if shit is going bad and it would be smart to turn around?
What should i do with it
>>1052965
Enter it in your state fair, that is one hell of a carrot congratulations.
take it to >>>/b/ with the other dick rate threads
but since you're here, 2/10, would not bang
Another dies in the search for Fenn treasure.
This guy bit it in the EXACT location i believe the treasure to be hidden.
I hope i can get there before Fenn calls off the hunt.

It's my treasure bitch, it's my destiny.

There is a good chance he will go and grab it up this week.
This is one death too many and he feels bad

Too late. It's gone.
I'm planning to go /out/ in the SoCal San Gabriel Mountains (Near Los Angeles). Please post any stories about going /out/ there and how it went/experiences.
Any tips/tricks would be very appreciated!
pic related is where I'm going, here's a great video showcasing the place/area as well

attention [s4s],
megumin posters are genuine pedophiles who have been observed trading links and search terms for 'child nudism' content and on some cases even full blown child pornography
hide all megumin threads report all megumin threads do not respond to megumin threads
these people are sick and what they do is illegal
no matter what your philosophical or political beliefs are about issues surrounding child sexuality i'm sure we can all agree this board is not the place for child exploitation material
on this note i ask that megumin posters self moderate and vacate the board
if you have any confidence in your own decency despite your socially frowned upon preferences you will be able to understand the objective litigious problems associated with your presence
i thank you,

Stop being a fag and camp at Mt. Whitney.
I've done it many times before, but it was all during mild weather and I am pretty sure I was drunk every time. No bugs, no issues- just stars and cozy sleeps.
How the fuck do you do it during the summer? 30 minutes in and I've already killed two spiders crawling on me and a beetle. It is annoying because after the first one you just become paranoid.
this is also a no cot scenario.
clearing the area makes sense, but what else? seems like they just know you are trying to sleep at start crawling all over you cause fuck you.
Also, mosquito net is default.
the average person EATS several spiders a year without even knowing it. grow a pair.

I want to FUCKING SLEEP without feeling shit crawl on me
>1056350
Treat all your shit in permethrin before you go /out/. Clothes, sleeping bag, tarp, hammock etc. Cover your face with a treated 'dad hat' while asleep. A treated bandana or buff can be pulled over the face too.
Thank you for supporting ne /out/.
Greetings from a forest on the Soutern Upland Way.
Alright, cool. I have no clue who you are, but cool.
that's a cozy little camp you got there OP. pic unrelated.
>>1049932
yikes, try not to set tree roots on fire. maybe use a stove/line your campfire with rocks next time
also, usually not the best idea to cook food in a can; most are plastic lined these days.
presuming you're not in bear country? don't cook where you sleep if you wanna avoid night-time run-ins. raccoons and rats too.
Bought this on amazon for 25 american during amazons prime day shit.

I just plan on doing some day hiking with this thing and maybe some traveling for a day or 2. Is it /out/ approved?
Kaka literally means shit. That's all I have to say.
>>1057107
Like it's the shit or it's literately its shit?
>>1057109
Kaka was the goat in his prime, maybe you will get lucky. Either way it's only 25 american pesos and you bought in amazon, if you see it going to shit just sent it back.
You're splashing around in the ocean at the beach when you turn around and see pic related. What do you do?
I do what's recommended and relax in the stream instead. Then I go to a different beach because I'm not going to become another tally mark.
>>1056851
Enjoy your farm runoff water
I keep swimming. I usually go far away from lifeguards spots precisely because of that, when the flag is red they start with bullshit like forbidding people from going to the water and nobody got time to deal with that shit. If I'm not putting anyone at risk other than myself then the law enforcers can go fuck themselves and leave me alone.
