I've had them there for almost ten years now plus eu can't fuck me because that would be oppression.

Oh, also, one of the local historic sites got fined a half-million by the Fed for having one of those novelty penny-smasher machines in my home town recently.

While it has either been unenforced or sporadically enforced for forever they're starting to crack down on it because they realized how easy it is to make money off it. Used to be the only way to get charged with it was to either burn fat stacks of cash or get caught smashing coins on train tracks (and even then it was a rider "fuck you" charge on top of the whole tampering with the railroad shit).

If you live in a very dense urban city with excellent infrastructure which houses not only you but also your family, work, interests and every type of shopping you'd need- why would you own a car? Do you enjoying paying insurance?

Because I'm not poor and like to be able to go wherever the fuck I damn well feel like on my own schedule and without paying several weeks' income to get there in someone else's vehicle like I would with a plane or taxi.

>>
>>1032461
I'm not poor but I don't see the need to invest in a car that I will rarely use. If I or my family needs a car to go where we want when we want it we'll just rent one. If I want to go /out/ I can grab a cheap bus ticket that'll drop me off far outside the city for less than the gas money will be for a car. If I want to go further than a bus'll take me I'll most likely grab a plane ticket which is about the same price as the gas or even less while being much faster.

I understand the need for a car if you routinely travel where there's poor communal infrastructure but that's not the case everywhere. I can get just about anywhere I want with my regions bus and train network for less than it'd cost in gas. There are times where a car is warranted such as group travelling where gas is split or if I need to haul things, but then I can just rent. This rare occurrence is not enough to warrant neither the investment or ongoing costs of owning my own car.
>>
>>1032480
>I'll most likely grab a plane ticket which is about the same price as the gas or even less
nigga you wut.

I can drive coast to coast across the US for $250 in gas, and I drive a full-size SUV with mediocre gas mileage. A last-class redeye plane ticket would run me $450-800 depending on the day of the week.
>while being much faster
Only when traveling over 1000 miles, since you have to show up to the airport 2-3 hours early to get through security then hang around for an hour after the plane lands to get your luggage, then arrange transportation from the airport to wherever you're actually going and the travel time to get there. And that's assuming you don't have any long layovers or delays or cancellations.

This is also assuming your final destination is even REMOTELY close to an airport, which pretty much everywhere worth going isn't.

You sound like a yuro with your absurdly expensive gas and small, densely populated countries.
>>
>>1032504
Yes, gas is more expensive in Europe where I live but gas isn't the most cost prohibitive factor of car ownership if usage isn't routine or necessary. Insurance and parking space in a densely populated city add to the cost, regardless of distance travelled. If you don't need it in your day to day life that's just money wasted.

I don't know why plane tickets are so expensive in USA, for 250 USD I can seriously get a plane ticket from Europe to USA if I book in advance.

I don't know how you handle your flights but I leave home about 45 minutes before my flight, take a 15 minute bus ride to the airport, go through security in five minutes and wait for the flight for at least 20 minutes just because I light to be early. Then I pick my bag up in 10 minutes. If I'm unlucky and arrive at a rural airport it's another ~30 minutes to get into whichever city I'm flying to.

It's all about infrastructure, pricing and logistics. Not everywhere is like USA where the nation is built around the assumption that you need a car. If a region has properly prepared for communal travel they can make it work cheaper and faster than cars.
>>
>>1032527

>>
>>1032464
Did you buy that sliderule yet?
>>
>>1032527
>gas is more expensive in Europe

I did a roundabout calculation a few months back and the price of gasoline from a gas station somewhere in Devonshire, UK came out to $5.26/gallon.
>>
>>1032527
Well, now that we've established there isn't really an equivalency, would you be willing to answer a couple questions?

How expensive is car insurance where you live? Here the mandatory minimum runs about $1800USD a year for someone with a clean record.

How much is gas? I just paid $1.97 a gallon, last time I was in England (1997) it was 3 pounds a liter.

Why do you have to pay for parking? Every house and 99.99% of apartments and town homes include free parking here, because it's expected for all adults to own a car.
>>
>>1032547

1800 a yr? damn, I spend 53 a month with Geico, I got full coverage too.
>>
>>1032550
I'm in a particularly expensive city in a high required coverage state. Where I used to live was around $280 every 6 months for state minimums with USAA, but thats toward the extremes of the spectrum.
>>
>>1032527
Not even the guy you're talking to but I knew you were a fucking Euro, and judging by your words I would say a norther faggot one. Even though what you say is kinda true in regards of public transportation, it only applies because most European countries are so densely populated that it works, we can't compare it to the US, and even here in Europe there's not really a replacement for a car. We're just lead to believe that because governments want to go green and will tax the shit out off us. Being it parking, gas tax, freeway, car tax and so on.

Meanwhile that you have to share the metro with ahmed, joan, hans and their smell poor higiene.
>>
>>1032547
>car insurance
A lot of variables, but for someone around 30 in a major city a ten year old cheap cars insurance can go for 700 USD a year and an expensive sports car can go for 2600 USD.
>gas
Right now, 6 USD a gallon.

We have to pay for parking for the exact opposite reason that you do not- it's generally not expected to own a car in most urban areas. If only a portion of the people living there owns a car why would you dedicate large areas to housing cars? And why should people living there pay for it? Better to not include the cost of parking space in the price and let the ones that need it pay extra.

However, if you live somewhere where you're most likely going to own a car like a more rural area or smaller city it's likely that parking is included.
>>
>>1032447
>>1032451
They don't fine/arrest you for drilling holes into coins. /diy/ has discussed the legality of making rings from old silver coins in the past and the verdict was that the "defacing currency" laws are only enforced in cases of altering face values, not for drilling holes or making rings.
>>
>>1032573
>We have to pay for parking for the exact opposite reason that you do not- it's generally not expected to own a car in most urban areas. >However, if you live somewhere where you're most likely going to own a car like a more rural area or smaller city it's likely that parking is included.
what a bunch a bullshit
>>
>>1032580
Why?

Space is what is expensive in cities.

Space for your apartment costs X.
Space for your parking costs Y.

So if parking is included the apartment will cost X+Y. If it's not included it will cost X.

If not everyone has a car, why should the rent be X+Y instead of X? Why not make it optional?

In smaller cities or rural areas space isn't whats expensive so parking space doesn't increase the price of an apartment or house in a meaningful way.

This actually makes it cheaper for the majority of big city dwellers that do not need or want a car.
>>
>>1032584
ok reddit.

You're parking on the side of the road, it has nothing to do with the price of your apartment, we're not talking about a garage. There are tons of roads where you could just park before and then the city's management decided to make you pay for it when in reality there was no need to.
>>
>>1032588
There are plenty of free roads to park on. But in cities with apartment complexes they'll never be enough.

Where you do need to pay the money goes to maintenance of the road system.

If you need to include parking for everyone in a city you WILL need a parking house or an otherwise dedicated parking area.

What does this have to do with reddit?

>Where you do need to pay the money goes to maintenance of the road system.
Not it doesn't, don't be naive. Even if that was the case, the tax on gas and vehicle tax is plenty to cover that, many times. Parking money goes to the city's pockets, that then is used to fund the beautiful social system that we all here in Europe seem to love. But fuck them, I just park and don't pay in the machine anyway, so far I have been lucky and even If I'm fined in the future the savings so far will be worth it.

>>1032553
don't be a moron. it's not a one or either. rail and other public transport infrastructure SUPPORTS the road network. It's not about going green, it's about anticipating future growth with the forethought to integrate high speed high capacity transport mechanisms. Whether it's low tech bendy buses like in Curitiva or high tech bullet trains in Tokyo, you just have to look at some great examples of road-only cities like LA and the requirement for mega highways (and the real estate it occupies) to understand the problem.

Also, whether you believe in anthropogenic climate change or not it's impossible to argue that local air quality is not a critical factor in human health, and any mitigation of NOXs etc is good for the urban environment.
>>
>>1032584
For the last decade or two, in every single Western European country, any new building by law has to have space for residential parking, otherwise the developer has to pay a large fine.

Also gas is expensive, but engines are more efficient, and distances shorter, so it evens out in the end.

I use around €200 a month in diesel and my engine is running at least 12 hours a day.
For normal commuting I can make €20 last a week or more.

Road tax, inspections and insurance are still a major expense though. Especially for someone who doesn't use a car much.
You can insure and tax a 1998 1.3L piece of shit for less than €400 a year almost anywhere.

In regards to flying, the cost is always higher than price of the flight itself, sometimes substantially.

If you fly Ryanair, prices are cheap only when you book months in advance so it doesn't apply for spontaneous or business travel.

And Ryanair mostly works out of piece of shit rural airports where transport infrastructure is sparse.

And the flight times are practically designed to get you to stay overnight so you have to pay for a Hotel too.

If you're a business traveler, or a family/group a car is almost always a better idea. Also road trips are fun and way less stressful.

it's a timex weekender + chronograph, brown/ "antique brass." the second hand rarely works, but the rest of the watch does, so i don't really care. i love it because it matches with all the other shit i wear, and it get lots of compliments, which surprises me, because i think it's pretty basic. people think it's "classy" and "fancy." i think they're just used to sports watches, /fa/ casio shills, and /r/mfa NATO weekender morons though, so I guess I get it.

>Selling public land
Wasn't the plan transfer it into state owned instead of federal owned? I see nothing wrong with that tbf.

>Climate change
Well it happens every single day since the dawn of the earth, even if it's being accelerated by men made damage it will take a lot more than a single agreement to get things right. Plus if the public really support that then there's an entire new market to be explored and capitalized, privately. Throwing billions to the Teslas and the likes isn't the solution.
Not saying that one equals the another but for example China has 14k factories that don't respect the ambiental laws in the Beijing are alone. Putting bandages in arterial bleeding isn't enough, maybe it's time to people throw all their electric devices down the gutter.
If you don't think that bring companies back to produce in the US is important then I have nothing to tell you in that regard, keep sending your hard earned dollar to Pakistan, mexico, China and Bangladesh instead then.

>Muh twitter
The way he communicates himself is irrelevant, what matters is if things are changed and improved, who cares if the calls some media out on the twitter?

>Assuming you're American
I'm not, and I don't by everything he says or does regardless. Him being the US president is, obviously, relevant to the rest of the world and I quite like that a huge part of developed world is freaking their minds out because of that.

In regards of his cabinet being like a corporate meeting, well that's how the world works and there's no way around it, unfortunately.

are you aware of what the EPA did? it was a good agency, it was stripped down by the new administration to make people money with less regulations, this is a BAD thing.

selling public lands to the state was taking them away from the people so they could be used and abused by companies is a BAD thing. you aren't american so maybe you don't know how the public land thing works? but it needs to stay the way it is.

he doesn't deny climate change because he doesn't believe in it, he just says he doesn't believe in it so his friends can flourish (COAL COAL COAL) he's an idiot but he isn't stupid.

Band aids of dif types and sizes.
Gloves.
Quick clot.
ABD gauze pads.
Smaller dif size gauze pads.
Meds for bug bites, head aches, etc.
Tweezers.
Smaller vial has peppermint oil, which works amazing for head aches.
Larger vial has iodine.
Coban wrap, which is so amazing.

All fitting in a 5x7 pouch from maxpedition. when all compressed, it's like a inch thick, easy to get into.

Had a TQ, dog decided it made for a better chew toy.

Where do you live that you DON'T need to carry a gun? It must be some kind of magical place.
Seriously, your protection is your responsibility. It is not the police's. Even if it were, the time you need them, they aren't going to get to you in time.
Situational awareness is the most important thing you can do. Being trained to use a gun and having that gun with you is the second most important thing you can do. That is, unless you live in a magical place.
>>
>>1037875
we don't have guns only the cops do. it is very rare that people get shot the cops almost never use their guns.

the only problem is a few knife wielding lunatic could really wreck havoc. but having guns would only change this slightly, then a couple of terrorists armed with assault rifles wearing body armor could wreck the same havoc. people would be helpess to the same degree. basically you can make terrorism more expensive and more professional but you can't stop it.

Anytime someone replies to a superior American because he displayed his carry gun, asking why would he carry something like that, is just their third world jealousy leaking. Their community and government won't trust anyone not even themselves to carry a pistol legally for self defense. Really sad they need to go there. Ignore all anti gunners.

Wew. You are saying Canadians are the inbreds? Lol

You are an idiot. Case closed.
>>
>>1038725
How?
Let's play a game:
You shoot me.
I have armor on and don't die.
You shoot me in the face since COM didn't work.
I die.
Or:
Same happens but I am able to return fire. I may or may not kill you but am still alive since you're either dead or avoiding my shots.
How about this one:
You're shooting at people other than me. I have armor. They die and maybe me too since I can't stop you.
Or:
I see you focused on others and even though I don't have armor I can stop you since I have a gun and the element of surprise. Some of your targets may die, but not all and not me.

Armor is a benefit, I have some in case shit goes way fucky, but a gun is the only actual protection since it is the only way to stop someone else with a gun.
>ban all guns then!
It doesn't work. Criminals and terrorists manufacture their own or smuggle them in. It's not hard to make a gun. I have basic machine skills and have made several.

that is at least true. it doesn't mean gun ownership should be automatic or real easy. one should display the reasonable level of proficiency knowledge of guns and laws regarding gun use and a clean bill of mental health to own and carry guns.

in my interpretation gun control is all about ensuring retards don't shoot people by accident. it's not that you can prevent that it still happens but not nearly as often.

I carry a Maxpedition Fatboy Versipack.

Has the following.

Ifak.
Thrunite headlamp.
Spare mag.
Small fire kit (Just a fire rod and a mini bic with some dryer lint)
two spare 18650s (for headlamp and my edc pocket light.
15 feet of paracord (Has worked amazing for improvised dog leash)
Green Chem light.
Battery and cords to charge my phone.
Wet wipes (There has been times I've spent 16 hours at the office, it's nice to freshen yourself up)
Throw away rain poncho.
Emergency blanket.

I some times will swap out for my 5.11 rush 12, that's because I will be bringing a jacket that I don't want to clean.

That all sounds great, but transferring federal land to the states will be impossible unless it's next-to free. I work for my states natural resource agency, and there is just barely enough budget for personnel and equipment for our own state parks and forest areas. Granted, the state parks here are 95% (2014) self funded by various permits, camping fees, mining/logging/ farming/aggregate leases, etc, but if states gained control of federal land it would just increase state taxes.

What happens if states refuse or are unable to manage hundreds of millions of acres of federal land? It will be sold to private and corporate interests.

National parks, forests and rangelands all surely generate revenue to cover a substantial amount of their operating costs, which in most cases is already minimal. There's much more to the "swamp" than NPS/USFS/BLM/USFWS. Somehow I don't trust that selling federal land will not eventually end up ruining it for all of us.

Is it like a fist pack?

I remember kids would carry all sorts of shit for that back in the day. One friend had some broken up chop sticks wrapped in duct tape as a fist pack and we were getting searched by the cops and when they found this wad of duct tape they thought they struck gold and it was an ounce of heroin or some shit. Then they unwrapped it and tore it apart and just kept asking the kid "What is this for? What is this for?" and we wouldn't tell em and they got real pissed.

FWIW, the fist pack thing, if you keep something solid in your hand when you punch somebody, it keeps your fingers and knuckles from pushing in and makes the punches harder. Like hitting something with a steel hammer instead of a rubber mallet.

You say that because you live in flyover, if you lived in DC, NYC or Bay area, you wouldn't be saying such barberities you have access to cheap or free parking because no one lives there. I can go to hundreds of american cities with free parking, but there are also no jobs. The high density of where some yuros live, means they can't just park their cars anywhere because too many fucking people live there, now you go to a european village, sure, park your car in the middle of the god damn road because no one is going to come along behind you for a good 15 to 30 minutes. It's about density not country. You for example, just about can't own a car in NYC area because of the same god damn issues our yuro friend mentioned.
