Could you guys fucking stop trying to design this knife?

The SXB, the Jess-X, now the Master Woodsman by W Collins. When will people learn?
INB4 someone says "but those atr totally different knives" - they're not. It's the same damn thing - people trying to design a new blade shape with "multiple features", so you can have this part of the blade for cutting, that part of the blade for carving, another one for sawing, or circumsisions, or whatever.

And no mater how many times it's been tried, there's always some "genius" who thinks he'll be the one to "get it right"

Why is there even a market for this kind of rubbish?

Is it a cultural thing?

for the tracker?

The Hunted (2003) with Benicio Del Toro, and Tommy Lee Jones (Yes, I know that one was a Beck, but a Beck is what, $1500? made to order).

For the other one (>>1052791) it's probably CS:GO.

On a personal note - I actually do own a tracker (that I use about once or twice a year, but that's a different story) - to me, it's a perfect representation of 1980s "survival" knife design - big, heavy, 1/4'' thick (to make it super extra indestructible), with multiple "features", the practical implication of which is that whatever you do (and you can do a lot, despite the clunkiness), you always have a knife that is way too big and unwieldy for the task at hand, because of all those extra "features" permanently attached.

Instead of going for a "normal" design, like pic related (4'' long, 1/8'' thick, scandi grind drop point with a very comfortable handle, one of the countless variations of Mears' woodlore knife), people insist on making these outlandish designs.

Buying that knife to perform a circumcision would be a rip off.

sort of.

TOPS 1095 steel at 1/4'' thick is not going to break, but the sawback (it's more for making notches in stakes for tying rope, than sawing through stuff) will wreck your batoning stick.

You can also use it as a hammer (driving stakes into the ground), and a shovel.

And that's when I ran into this:

I know a girl who kinda likes hiking, I've gotten her to go on some decent ones before. She likes taking tacticool knives with her when we go though, what should I get her for her birthday? 50 dollar limit, we ain't married.

No, she is not survival Lilly

>part of the blade for cutting, that part of the blade for carving, another one for sawing
You mean like the Russian taiga? Or the Filipino barong? Or the Nepalese kukri?

We've been doing this shit for centuries, we'll keep doing it for centuries. We're not gonna stop. Just learn to live with it.
>>
>>1053259

The kukri is a chopping knife that can be used for cutting and slicing somewhat effectively, but it still comes with a karda - figure it out.

Also - you just listed large, but no-nonsense knives, used by people who need a bigger knife to chop sometimes, but don't want to carry multiple tools.
>>
>>1052605
At least the W. Collins master woodsman doesn't have useless serrations or isn't overly thick and has a continuous grind closer to a kukri's design than OP's gay-ass chunk of overprice steel, but hey if you like that, that's cool.

Carrying around a useless movie prop blade design... I still don't understand.
>>
>>1053092

This might be your knife 1095...50 bucks, tactical AF.

>>
>>1053274

that only makes it marginally better. It [the master woodsman] is still an excercise in pointless knife design.

>>1053277

what's to understand? It looks kind of cool, and that's all some people need. It's also not a movie prop - it ended up in a movie, because Brown was hired as a technical consultant for it, and shamelessly pushed it.

I use my tracker twice a year - when I drive grandma to a nearby town cemetery (where her parents are buried) to tidy up a bit.
Thing is, the grave next to ours is old and overgrown, so I use the tracker as a glorified gardening tool, that's somewhat more convenient to carry, and will do the job of a knife/hatchet/shovel/whatever. That's about the only use I've been able to find for it.

To be fair - it's not nearly as useless as the internet parrots claim - the primary edge is actually ok - just over 4 inches of usable cutting edge on the primary alone, and the secondary edge is ok for carving up sticks I guess.

The whole problem is that it doesn't allow you to do anything you wouldn't be able to do with a "normal" knife, like the one I posted earlier. Hell - for most wood-related needs, a mora eldris is plenty.

As it is, the tracker weighs 550 grams (23 ounces), and even with the scout carry, that's not something you'd want to lug around the woods all day.

Still more functional than a BK2 though.

Also a contender, The Gerber Strongarm fine edge in 420hc but the ergos in the handle make up for it as does the sheath. Which normally isn't a selling point for me but at that price, it is.

A while ago people started to notice the Spetzna survival machete as being cool. Then they started getting put up on ebay for ridiculous amounts of money. That's when I started to notice the goofy looking survival knives coming out. This is just what I seemed to notice but I don't know.

SOG still any good? I bought a Field Pup from them back in 2010 and its a sturdy reliable knife, but I mostly use it for whittling and minor cutting/carving. I was checking out their site earlier today and saw nothing but tacticool bullshit and folding knives now. Their selection used to be much smaller.
>>
>>1055399
>Field Pup
good taste

they did change it though....blade isn't as good and the handle feels more plasticky

glad I got one of the earlier ones

still a good buy though
