I currently posses a backpack, sleeping bag, pad, and bivvy for inclement weather. Is this good? Will I need much else?

>tfw freaking out because I'll be hitting the road soon
Is flying a sign still lucrative?

Are oogles homeless faggots? Are you recruiting?

I'm no stranger to backpacking but this might be my longest excursion and my first trip to Zion National Park as well. I'm planning on backpacking the Southwest desert, then the Western Rim from Lee Pass to the main Zion canyon (52 miles), then the narrows, and finally the East Rim. All in all it's around a 150-160 mile hike that'll last 8-9 days. Any advice on what to bring besides the basics? My pack is 65L and has a base weight of 5.8 lbs.
Forgot to mention I'm going in mid-September.

How much water are you bringing? Are you walking along a river the whole time?
>>
>>1053275
water filter. I'll collect water from springs, creeks, and rivers. Thats my only choice.

So /out/, somewhat experienced outdoors retard here, gonna go backpacking for a few days next week. I have high endurance, don't have to worry about lack of calories or hydration usually ever, but what kills me is calluses. Specifically on the back of both of my heels on the outer part the bone protrudes so badly that by the end of the first day skins already gone. I tried leukotape and benzoin oil, tried doubling up on socks, and nothing works. I'm thinking of picking up some moleskin but not sure if I'm just spending $20 on tape at that point.
>inb4 just walk around in boots hurr durr
It's not the same as walking with shit on your back on uneven and horribly changing terrain for 8+ hours everyday so no.
>tldr boots already broken in and I'm deathly allergic to having skin on the back of my feet via abrasion

Padded moleskin is better than tape
Also, how old are you?
I used to get nasty blisters when I was in my 20s and early 30s, but don't anymore

Just bought a harmonica, pic related not mine but similar. Anyone bring a harmonica on their /out/ings? I think it would be cool for camping. Anyone know if it's easy to play?

>>
>>1053049
Not me man I always heard harmonicas referred to as the "Hobo siren song". They come to the sound of them expecting to find a hobo camp, and when they find a normie they come unglued.

You've never been afraid /out/ until you've had 200 lbs of filthy stinking unshaven naked hobo come crashing through your tent door in the middle of the night and slam into you, tearing at your clothes and licking all over you.
>>
>>1053117
i have definitely never had that happen to me. i also don't live in an area that has homeless people so i think i'm fine there
>>
>>1053049
I carry a jaw harp. Mostly because it annoys the shit out of my girlfriend so out and in my car are the two places I can play it. Also I bring the banjo or guitar when camping with my buddies as long as it's a short hike.

I'm going on a 60mi backpacking trip through the Olympic peninsula. This is my first multiple day hike and I am clueless as to how much food I should bring.

I'm 5'10, 170lb and 13% bodyfat according to the navy method. How many kcal will i need per day if I'm gonna be hiking 15-20mi a day through moderately difficult terrain?

>>

There is no magical formula to tell you how much food to bring
You are going to have to do what people did before the internet allowed them to blast their idiot questions worldwide
It's called "trial and error"
This is your first trip
Bring what you think is reasonable
If you bring back a ton of food, it was too much
If you are hungry, bring more next time
You aren't going to starve to death

Nys, any hiking trails that also allow primitive camping?

I can't seem to make sense of their websites.

Stop trashing the forest to practice memecraft shit
>>
>>1052844
NYS forests allow you to primitive camp up to 3 days, longer than that and they want you to get a permit first. Just beware of hunting seasons.

What do you guys think about when camping or backpacking /out/ alone?

Are you more of the quite silence and meditation person, just observe, or have deep thoughts?
22 posts and 7 images submitted.
>>
>>1051740
All of the above.

When walking I look at the trail and the trail only. Tend to daydream while doing it if it's an easy path.

Best would be to be hyperaware of every step without other thoughts, doing it for hours gives a nice feeling.

Anyone here interested in green building/passivhaus/biophilia? My job is semi-related to this area and it's made me realise just how much I'd love to buy a plot of land and build my own fully sustainable house one day, but I don't have any background in architecture. Interested to hear from anyone with a bit more experience on how easy it is to build this sort of property

I am interested in them minorly, but I think your best chances might be communication with local forestry/woodproducing and architecture unis.

What's the lowest monthly budget you think you could live on? I mean hunting and growing your own food, buying just what's necessary, not having a car may be cheaper, but having it may help you living in a cheaper way, dunno. Just curious, don't think I'm gonna do it, but provide examples of your hypothetical living.

$300 rent. $200 food. $200 bills. $200 saving. $100 mic stuff. That's like the bare minimum over here. This gives you a basic bitch-tier life in western europe.
