Can someone please identify it?
Would appreciate any information.
Is it some kind of queen?
It has six legs located at the frontal part of the body and walks quite awkwardly.
It is 5-6 cm long.

kill it fire as soon as possible, it'll grow into one of these.
Dear /out/. Soon I will camp on Iceland for a week. Any protip? What should I prepare? Novice Camper here.
>>1056695
A decent sleeping pad. Go try them out in person. If you're gonna be sleeping on something for a week you gotta make sure it's comfy.
>iceland
rain jacket, wool sweater, wool hat and gumboots.

Don't try to camp in vulcanic areas

Expect water and heavy wind. And ever-changing weather.
What is a fair price to pay for harvesting a tree from someone else's land?
My parents have about an acre of woods on their property and I would like to cut down a tree (not sure which species, maybe maple) to process on my own into firewood. I want to compensate them for the tree, but I plan on processing it and hauling the wood myself.
So I'm looking for what you guys would consider the fair price of a medium sized tree.
>>1056657
If you are cutting down a dead one, I wouldn't pay anything. You are doing a service, for free, you should get the wood.
With a big tree you might get $200 worth of firewood. Most of the cost of selling firewood is labor. So paying them for the tree is like paying to work for someone.
>>1056657
loggers have come by and offered my dad a few hundred per tree to come take a few trees out. he's never taken the offer. i'm sure grampa will be happy with a hundred bucks.
also, only do this in late autumn or winter OP. don't kill the forest, harvest from it.
>>1056658
Not OP just wondering, how would I ask a forest owner if I can clear some marked trees? Do I just ask him if I can work in exchange for some firewood?
Is there anywhere in the world that is possible and feasible to live off-grid without government involvement?
Legality is negotiable. The land and climate would have to be conducive to farming.
Access to raw resources like copper, tin, etc. and complex items like solar panels through nearby (Within a day's travel) markets.
Somewhere you won't be hunted down for carrying a gun or flying a drone.
A place like this would be a veritable utopia. So, does it exist?
The word you are looking for is suburb
If this place existed, people would already be living there.

Talk about fishing & or tackle
Caught bowfin non-stop today, and this is the first time I've ever caught them. Tons of tun, but they shredded my soft plastics every single time. They fight like bass on roids.

I caughted me a fish
>>1056108
I'm jealous.
Wish I could land a bowfin...
You are a novice /out/man, you already have set up a ridgeline and are preparing to set up in the way described in the image.
You have 4 pegs, the tarp has one hole in each corner. You have two ten meter pieces of rope to attach the rope to the pegs but you are a cheap fuck and does not want to cut the rope. How would you go on tying the tarp? (With making a square set up as indicated by the image)
>>1055795
>two ten meter pieces of rope
jfc just cut the damn rope. You're actually costing yourself more by not cutting it.
>>1055815
How so?
Cut the rope you fucking autist.
there was an interesting UK thread recently >>>1040126 and it seems that scotland has the same rules on camping as scandinavia (i.e. you can pitch a tent more or less whereever you want to).
I'm going to be in London and the souroundings for a while in September (work…) and I have some holiday left over, so I figure while I'm on that weird Island, I might as well spent some time out of office there.
Is it worth it to take my tent with me, grab a rental and drive to scotland and just walk whereever? Just having had a quick look around, it seems like there are a lot of marked walks and paths, so (assuming no fog) navigation is not a big issue. Also, no dangerous animals. Can I simply drive somewhere, buy a map and start walking and pitch my tent wherever I like?
What kind of weather do I have to expect in september?
And any reccomended areas the scot /out/ists would reccomend when I'm interested in climbing/mountaineering (might have a belay slave with me), the sea (might be a bit cold for extended swimming) and pic related?

>Just having had a quick look around, it seems like there are a lot of marked walks and paths, so (assuming no fog) navigation is not a big issue. Also, no dangerous animals. Can I simply drive somewhere, buy a map and start walking and pitch my tent wherever I like?
And of course this is a bit of an oversimplification, or rather, it sounds a bit like McCandless, so what I'm trying to ask/say, is:
>Can someone with average central european /out/ skills and average gear spend a few days wandering scotland without too much preparation?
>>1055609
Yes. You can't camp too near any infrastructure though.
The only thing to consider is that it can be insanely windy in Scotland so make sure your tent is up to that.
>>1055621
>make sure your tent is up to that.
define "insane"
This thing has so far survived an extended trip through the norwegian highlands, and according to the manufacturer it has a high-winds optimised design, but it certainly is not a gale proof 5 season monster.
I'm not sure if this is the correct board, but i've been interested in astronomy for a long time and i would like to get into stargazing. can anybody give me tips for things like a solid telescope and various equipment? i don't have that high of a starting budget, although i'd like to test the waters with something fairly reliable.
bumping
is there a different board i should go to?
>>1055282
Astronomy would be a /sci/ topic, but I could probably point you in the right direction. What is your budget exactly? Amateur astronomy is one of those things where there's a bit of a price barrier to entry.
Cross-boarders are the worst.
>post a thread
>bump in first few minutes because you think the board is really fast
>conclude that /out/ is slow that you NEVER come back to check the thread, end up forgetting about it or checking days later
>people who actually replied to your thread get annoyed when you don't participate in your own thread, and they reply less willingly to future cross-boarders
Sup /out/. Family is buying 30 acres of land this week. What do with all this new /out/ potential?
>>1055086
>Put up a barbed wire fence and no trespassing signs as soon as possible.
>Plant long-term cash crops when in season (black walnut, ginseng, etc)
>Dig a well
>Make sure your right-of-way onto the property follows local and state laws
>If there is a river/creek/pond on your property inspect it to make sure the banks are not eroding and check historical flood levels.
>>1055086
>What to do
Enjoy the simple sanity of being landed: Raise some easy livestock, do a big garden, and read the teachings of Jefferson. Oh and get a rifle if you don't have one.
I'd get a dog and spend at least an hour a day just walking around on the property getting to know every little detail of it and making up names for special places/things i come across.
Hey /out/ do any of you guys know what kind of wasp this is?
Another picture
I call them yellow jackets or "wasps" where I'm from

can somebody maybe link me the /out/ discord server.
oh I didn't know there was one

what if you wake up, walk out of there and fall off?
then you die, obviously. which is why portaledges either a) have walls, or b) you tether yourself, so you don't roll off in your sleep.
>>1053596
It would be extremely painful.
>>1053622
you're a big guy.
Any Rockheads/Mineralfags here? I've recently rediscovered my hobby of collecting some cool ass rocks after getting in the construction industry. After mines, construction sites are a freakin gold mine for interesting specimens. In my case, the site i'm helping supervise seems to be garnet rich as opposed to my hometown which only seems to have quartz or sandstone.
That's a pretty rock, OP.
>>1053584
There's a creek that runs through my farm that produces an assload of geodes.
Enough so that I bought a dedicated band saw and cheapo rock tumbler for them so I can saw them up without them shattering, which I then sell on ebay for anywhere from $5 for a meh-tier ring out of one to $5000 for a large, well-polished half. Paid for the band saw in 1 outing and has been an interesting, if sporadic, source of income.
In other news, about 1 in 20 suspected geodes end up being oil/tar filled. Which makes a goddamn mess and they're not worth anything.
>>1053584
Sauce on your rock pls
I like my plash palatka. I've taken it on several hikes, and I love the feel of the material and how it is quiet in the rain (two things average ponchos do not do).
Anyhow, the thing I like most is using the same for rain gear and shelter. It makes sense to me.
>I'll shit in the rain, watch me.
Anyways I wanna make a bigger one and set it up to my specs. I was wondering if anyone knew where to find the same kind of material? I would love to have some raw material. Suggestions on something perhaps better or similar are appreciated! Also tips on use of the material.
Do you maybe have a picture of what your thinking of?
Kinda hard to help you without one.
>>1053183
Is it cotton canvas?
And do you know how it is water-proof'd? Like is it with wax or silicone or is it more like oilskin?
>>1053183
I think the Goretex type material that hunting jackets are made out of would work well. It's waterproof, but it has a fleecy outer texture which makes it fairly quiet and durable. It would give you a much lighter finished product than, say, waterproof canvas.
Can someone identify these.
I assume they are all poisonous
>>1052966
They might even be venomous.
