So I was watching this documentary and I really enjoy it so far.
You really get a sence of this special man and what kinda stuff he wanted to do in his life.
But I gotta admit the main narrator's accent is kinda annoying to listen to, call me racist, but it's clear his english is poor and that he's just reading from a script, and that kinda ruins it.
But what do you guys think?
About the movie and also Timmothy Treadwell?

I came at it like you would with one of those "to catch a killer" type docs. It was an interesting look into what motivated the guy to go out and get him and his wife eaten.

You can do it as long as you follow relevant safety and don't shoot people. If you're going to hunt make sure you follow your state hunting laws and that you use a legal caliber (some states ban certain calibers for hunting). That's pretty much it.
>>
In general the NF rules for firearms are as follows.

Shoot against an adequate backstop
Do not shoot over roads, trails or rivers or lakes.
Do not shoot near trailheads, buildings, parking areas or developed campgrounds.
If a NF has an established firing range (and some do) it is preferred that you use it instead of making your own.

That's the GENERAL set of rules, specific areas may have other rules. The best bet is to call or the the district office and ask the rangers.
>>
National Forrest rules are:
Don't shoot over highways, trails or their ajacent waterways.
Don't shoot within 150 feet/yards (can't remember) of a camp ground or dispersed campsite
Don't shoot without a backstop

Unfortunately states like to dump their own fucking rules on top of it (West US has a fuckton of fire laws you'll have to google). Consult the internet about the specific spot you're about to walk into.

Look at those Cabela's combos. They are supposed to be decent for the money. But even with that you will probably still drop $150-$200 to get going for one species.

What the fuck did you just fucking say about me, you little bitch? I’ll have you know I graduated top of my class in the Navy Seals, and I’ve been involved in numerous secret raids on Al-Quaeda, and I have over 300 confirmed kills. I am trained in gorilla warfare and I’m the top sniper in the entire US armed forces. You are nothing to me but just another target. I will wipe you the fuck out with precision the likes of which has never been seen before on this Earth, mark my fucking words. You think you can get away with saying that shit to me over the Internet? Think again, fucker. As we speak I am contacting my secret network of spies across the USA and your IP is being traced right now so you better prepare for the storm, maggot. The storm that wipes out the pathetic little thing you call your life. You’re fucking dead, kid. I can be anywhere, anytime, and I can kill you in over seven hundred ways, and that’s just with my bare hands. Not only am I extensively trained in unarmed combat, but I have access to the entire arsenal of the United States Marine Corps and I will use it to its full extent to wipe your miserable ass off the face of the continent, you little shit. If only you could have known what unholy retribution your little “clever” comment was about to bring down upon you, maybe you would have held your fucking tongue. But you couldn’t, you didn’t, and now you’re paying the price, you goddamn idiot. I will shit fury all over you and you will drown in it. You’re fucking dead, kiddo.

Sup guys.
I hope i'm on the right board.
Been prospecting for gold for some time now.
I live on Aruba, a desert island, no running streams or rivers here so i'm digging into quartz veins and crushing it up at home.
But today i found this conglomerate of darkish coloured quartz.
Its got the iron staining. It shows signs of sulfides. (the area has shitloads of pyrite)
But my question is, should i crush this up see whats in it?
Or is it useless and this stuff contains 0 gold and should just keep it like it is.. It looks kinda neat.
I never seen it like this. Didnt find anything simular at the spot where i found it.

Do what you like, there ain't no gold anywhere within 100 miles of you, except sunken treasure chests.

Which would be an awesome find!
>>
>>948566

Au contraire my friend.
Although gold mining hasnt been really profitable on Aruba.
For quite some time the Arubans and the English mined for gold here untill the beginning of the 1900's. The ruins of the mines are still standing and people actually found some big ass nuggets there.
I did not have that luck yet, but im buying a metal detector to increase that chance.

So if you're out on a long journey, and you hunt some game along the way, how do you best preserve it for that journey? No electricity, no fridges, nothing but what you can carry in a backpack.

Do you just cut it into chunks and drop it in a jar full of salt? Wash the salt out in some water when you want to, boil it up into some stew?
65 posts and 3 images submitted.
>>
>>948519
Nobody today is going to be carrying all the crap you'd need for that kind of preserving. Eat the meat ASAP, maybe make the carcass into broth and reduce that down into portable soup if you can be added to spend the time.
>>
>>948528
So if you kill something you basically have to accept that you're either stuffing your belly that night, or having most of it go to waste if you can't turn it into broth?

http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/2017/02/10/orange-alligator-south-carolina/97736352/

Photos show the 4- to 5-foot-long alligator on the banks of a retention pond at the Tanner Plantation neighborhood.

Jay Butfiloski with the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources says the color may come from where the animal spent the winter, perhaps in a rusty steel culvert pipe.

Experts say the alligator will shed its skin and probably return to a normal shade soon.

We did a hammock in Alaska. I have heard there aren't as many trees so it may be tough. We were going to do two hammocks with two flys this time to be more comfy. Halfway through the night I would always have to switch sides if we were in the same doublehammock. I recommend Kammock. But get a cheaper fly and bug net. We may do a tent but that isn't comfy unless you bring the air mattress and shit and I would have to buy all that shit there since we couldn't fly it over easily.

HI sorry if I am posting this in an incorrect sub, but I need some help.
Does anyone have any advice on where I could find a location in Illinois (more specifically northern Illinois) that is far from people and towns and is rural and not maintained by the city? I want to explore the nature in Illinois but I really don't know where to start, so if any of you would help that would be appreciated!

Try looking at a map sometime, dipshit.

How much per month do you save growing your own food (or making your own fuel/energy)?

I'm guessing the stuff you could grow are cheap at the stores, and the harder stuff to grow are better sold to other people than consumed (rare mushrooms, oils, emus?).

I'm guessing it's more of a "piece of mind" thing rather than an efficiency thing.

I probably save a small amount of money from growing food, but I don't grow food to save money I grow food because home grown food taste fucking great

in terms of money you probably get the biggest bang for your buck with fruit/nut trees, but that is a huge investment in time (years)

The nut and berry racket is insane. If you want to grow to save/make money thats a good way to do it. Also avocados if you have the climate for it. They will probably go up a bit in price soon, but that just means more money for Americans with avacodos.

it's actually got a decent zoom for a waterproof P&S.

Let's face it. 90% of the time you use your SAK, you're using the knife and it's a shifty knife. The handle isn't great and the steel doesn't hold an edge. What are some SAK alternatives that actually have good steel? Bonus points if it has a big and small blade.

I know there's a boker out there thats a serious contender but it's only got 1 blade.

You can get a case stockman with a punch that'll cover a lot of uses but doesn't have all the tools of a SAK.

Are wengers any good? Anything else out there to consider?
