Hello. I'm trying my hand at circuit bending/modifying an old Casio SK1 sampling keyboard. I'm pretty new to this so please forgive me. I'm trying to install a bend that bypasses the filter on the SK1 via an on/off switch. I managed to find this diagram which im told is the best filter bypass mod for the SK1, trouble is its not laid out to be switched on or off, but rather fixed on permanently. Is it possible to wire this mod up to a 3 pole on/off switch and if so, how should it be done? Thanks alot for any help that can be offered.

you'd need a 2-pole double throw. the first pole would connect the 1K resistor to its destination when ON, the second pole would reconnect the cut out R41 when OFF.

If it's been sitting for a while the points are likely corroded.
Take the cover off for access and use super-fine grit emery paper to clean contact area.
If they're just dirty the edge of a crisp clean dollar will work quite well.
If they're pitted you can file them but it's best to get a new set.

If the points are clean and have the proper gap, look next to the coil(s)

BGE came through and cut down trees that were close to power lines. They left this log hanging in the air. It fully encompasses the line.

I kind of want to try to cut it down because a floating log looks like shit. I also don't want to electrocute myself. Thoughts? Is there a good way to do this?

That is not a power line. It is on the bottom tier of the pole. It is communication line. Cable, telephone, etc. The power company would never have let it get like that if it had carried high voltage.

Do what you like. If they catch you they will ruin your life but whatever.

Huh, I thought "recently finished" or similar threads were frequent here?

A thread to post whatever /diy/ thing you've finished.

Anyway!

I got an audio recorder for my camera a while ago, and today I found an old ikea lamp just lying around.

Remembered I had an old tiny cheap tripod being useless as well.

Voilá, a desktop mic stand!

I need to get my hands on some more material so I can have the small tripod head rest in a rubber mount for further isolation. And then another tripod head at the bottom of the stand itself, so I can mount it on an actual tripod, the whole thing without the heavy foot.

With all the snow around, I decided to spoil my inner child, go up the hill and slide down.

Only one problem, nothing I could do it on with style at ready.

So I busted out old skateboard deck from my basement and wanted to prepare it for some snow sliding.

I sandpapered the bottom, but decided it was too unprotected from the elements.

On real snowboard you wax the bottom for better glide, right?
So I waxed mine using ordinary candle wax.
Just warmed it up in my hands, rubbed it in good and scrapped the surplus.

Ive read that candle wax lacks gliding properties of ski/snowboard wax and even in extreme cases can cause board to STICK to the snow instead of sliding, but I decided its still better than a raw plywood board.

Then, I thought that it would be nice to have some maneuverability while going downhill, so I bent and riveted two pieces of metal to the board to act as rudders of a kind.

This morning I went on the hill and my fears came true.
The rudders are just too big. They cut deep into the compacted snow and stop you dead in place.
Now, I have two options.
One is to shorten the rudders. Im not really sure about this one, I feel like even when less than half the size they are now there will be still too much resistance.
Also, their position at the end of the board may make it hard to control.

So I came up with other solution.
I have few long and relatively stiff steel(?) wires, 3mm diameter.
I was thinking about sliding them into screw holes and bending the ends so they dont slide out.
I fear however they will bend outwards(green arrows) when I'll try maneuvering on board.

Any advice you could give me?
Im heading for some more tea lights now.
I've seen some receipts for shitty homemade ski wax that uses normal candle wax and a bit a veggi oil.
Not sure how much of a difference a bit of oil makes when it comes to sliding on the snow, but its worth a try.
>>
>>1112866
I can give you one tip on manuvering on snow. Remove the metal from the bottom. You steer with your hips, rudders are only going to get hitched on something. Get something on top you can get a good grip with your feet on. Maybe lock your front foot to the board and get enough griptape for your back foot. I was born in snow and baptised on ice.

Before you laugh me out of here, look at Larry Walters.

He went about it kind of carelessly in that he didn't bother to research how cold it would be at high altitudes, nor make more than the most rudimentary safety provisions.

What if you added a little bit more to it than just a lawn chair? The lightest possible enclosure to keep a single human occupant warm and insulated from the weather.

Something like a portaledge, which is basically a rigid bottomed hanging tent used by mountain climbers, seems like it would work as a basis.

You could then add a hole in the floor to shit through with an airtight cover, a small concentrated fuel burning stove for heat, an antarctic rated sleeping bag, and some dehydrated meals.

There could be some water storage but with a moisture collection surface it should be possible to accumulate enough water each day for drinking and hydrating meals.

Is this idea feasible? The lightest, smallest, cheapest possible one man airship you could actually stay aloft for more than a few hours in comfortably. What would it look like? What are some additions you'd suggest?

An honorary Darwin Award (honorary as in surprisingly not managing to an hero, or, not at that point, despite valiants effort), Larry was someway beyond 'kind of careless' - theres also a few detailks missing from that account, believe he also managed to drop the rifle at some stage, etc.

No argument, helium balloons are probably effective - but youve got the same problem he had, namely lack of control (you gonna go where the wind takes you) and if he shot up to 16,000 feet (instead of the expected 30) with 45 ballloons, I have fucking no idea where youd level off, if at all, with 90. 'Plenty of beer' always a good idea tho - look forward to the live stream.

Hello DIY,

First time poster here. I recently inherited a used Karcher Pressure Cleaner. I have the basic attachments and the cleaner is all in good working order.

I've seen Karcher supply both generic "cleaner" and "car shampoo" branded under their names.

It's probably a long shot, but why can't you run a non-branded cleaner chemical in your pressure cleaner over what the manufacturer sells?

>>
>>1115141
Read any thermo/fluids book.
Chemicals that are physically similar can have completely different properties especially when used in a specific system.
That being said nothing disastrous would probably happen, reduced velocity from being too viscous from the nozzle. It could also corrode parts that weren't meant to take certain chemicals. The engineers who made the thing are probably smarter than you.
tl;dr saving a few dollars and ruining your hundred dollar machine is not worth.
>>
>>1115164
Yeah, I was thinking of perhaps trying this on a junk pressure cleaner first to measure the life span.

Probably not worth as you've said.
>>
>>1115141
Who says you can't?

I have a K2.xx series Kaercher. Its the regular household one that breaks all tge time and is impossible to find spares for.
Both the low and high pressure detergent systems are downstream of the pump and work using a Venturi principle.

The high pressure one is just a short extension/lance/wand with a bottle underneath.
It attaches to the gun and you can control the mixture of detergent/water and the fan spread.

The low pressure one is a clear tube on the pressure washer that sucks up soap from any soap bottle.
You have to remove the extention/lance/wand to use it.

So I got this Zippo when my grandfather died. I don't smoke but I love the shit out of it. I'm not sure if it's normal but after about a week the fluid reservoir evaporates entirely whether I've been using it or not.

Either way, is there a gasket or something that wouldn't damage the lighter but would make the opening airtight or close to it?

Thanks for reading.

Yep, zippos do that. Its why unless you smoke they are kinda useless.

Hi there folks! I have pic related on the way and I want to do a little modding and I was directed here from /g/. I want to paint it that glorious 90s beige. Have any of you done this mod before? Southern Canada. I'd say western coast. You want it a little cold so you don't sweat as much. The work will keep you warm. Not so cold that a good jacket won't keep you warm when you are idle, though.

Ohio, USA. Southeastern Ohio. Going to have a major construction boom shortly (some large Nat gas facilities going in) with more to come. It's redneck land on the river and bordering WV with no major cities nearby. You'll love it.

We're in a crazy housing bubble right now so construction industry is booming and making the economy pretty good. It can't last forever though. A big percentage of the tradespeople losing their jobs when it ends is a big problem nobody's got a good plan for yet.
