hey /diy/. I came across some photos of an old transformer station. I figured this would be the board most interested in seeing them.
Also, if you could identify some of the equipment, I would be grateful.
I'll start off with this wooden box with porcelain bushings. I don't know what this would have been used for.

i found a sticker that says no pcb's on a big transformer. so that's good at least
couldn't tell ya what's in here
the cabinets look to be switchgear. I had to remodel a hospital and remove/replace a bunch of old transformers and switchgear

I'll have to do some research. they're pretty cool looking

Abandoned power station near my house.essex power station. Fascinating inside, I'm sure it's obvious what these are
>>1110761
It looks like quite the place!
I don't have a clue what those are. My background most certainly isn't electrical.
Nonetheless I really love old power infrastructure. Something about it is amazing.
>>1110783
"Exide" should be a clue.
>>1110784
Never heard of that. They look like big batteries or some kind of small transformer.
The wall that this equipment is on used to be an exterior wall until they added onto the side.
The original building itself was built around 1904.
>>1110789
They are large batteries. I'd love to have that lot for scrap!

Batteries. It may be a power bank for the phone system.
>>1109633
Those look like current transformers, would've had busbars running through them
>>1109245
That's a computer. Those cards look like Flip Chip modules, made by DEC in the 60s and 70s.
It might be something sold by DEC, or it might be something built completely in-house. Those other panels are definitely custom-made.

You guys are the best! Thank you very much.
This place closed down in the 1970's.
I believe the enormous water tower was used to reduce ground potential rise
>>1109244
That wooden box houses a high voltage capacitor.

You are the best, thank you.

Old OLD battery banks...haven't seen anything that old since being at the Tanners Creek Plant.
>>1110741
Possibly, looks like a relay in the bottom right portion. Then again it might be some sort of an older battery charger.

Had asbestos ceilings in school and peopled always rake fingers on it. Our planners had a warning like this and on the bottom said "do not disturb the asbestos will not disturb you." Kek. I still have mine somewhere
>>1110337
I believe this is a two-ton overhead crane, could be wrong though. Might be a two-ton hydraulic press, hard to say.
>>1111489
Power plants use water to cool the plant and they turn it to steam to drive the generator which creates electricity. Surprised you didn't see the huge generator somewhere unless they removed it. Maybe I'm wrong about how this plant works, but that's how coal and nuclear plants work. They heat water, turn it to steam, the steam spins a giant generator which produces the electricity.

My bad just noticed you said transformer station and not power plant
