Was there ever a better ad campaign than this?
https://youtu.be/gc3AK8k90xw
No.
In terms of just effectiveness, I would have to say the Wii's ad campaign has been the best. That console's opening year was like a revolution.
>>3392235
Well, Japan seems to be the only country where the thing actually did well, so it seems like it was pretty fucking effective. Not to mention the meme status it not has in the west, it's very memorable.
What were your some of your favorite arcade games growing up?
>Metal Slug 3
>Tekken 3
>Marvel vs Capcom 1
>Time Crisis 2
>TMNT: Turtles in Time
>>3391976
OP you are my nigga.
Final Fight
Motherfucking Cadiilacs and Dinosaurs
Street Fighter 2
The King Of Dragons
Old Capcom was like a dream come true.
I remember I always used to play Daytona USA and Metal Slug with my dad.
galaga to the near exclusion of anything else but i also remember metal slug, don't know which one prob 3 and tetris. the cabinet was actually my introduction to tetris and i was entranced.
Hello!
I want to play a spaceship game, but not a mainstream game.
Any recomendation?
First for I thought this was a Majora's Mask thread.
Ultima 1.
Now go.
>>3391886
How mainstream is too mainstream? If I were to recommend Terminal Velocity, a game fairly popular in the 90's but not well known anymore would that be not hipster enough?
Anyone else have this terrible compulsion to buy games brand new factory sealed just to unwrap and play them? I feel like buying used is cheap and disgusting. Getting a second-hand product in less than mint condition is extremely unappealing to me. But this is costing a fortune, and I definitely won't be able to buy brand new games and systems for SNES, NES, N64, GameBoy Color, etc.
Does anyone else know this feel?
op will never know the feeling of digging through boxes and piles of junk in the attic for hours only to find that loose nes cart with your dead fathers last name printed in sharpie on the back slightly faded but still legible and covet it like the holy grail simply because you recall playing it with your family 20+ years ago and sliding it into your console and having it still work. fuck you sir, loose carts are great.
No.
I am tempted to pick up some NIB controllers though, since with those it actually matters.
>>3391830
i do open NIB shit, but i don't bother buying it.
now, if i had the money, i'd buy ALL the NIB shit and open it live on twitch and watch all the resellers and nintendoage faggots piss themself with rage
and then i'd sell it all cheap to internet bros because fuck the market
I'm inviting some friends over tonight for a mini games tourney. We usually have one every few months and our games list is more or less:
Mario party 2
Mario Kart 64
Crash Team Racing
Crash Bash
Bomberman 64
Super Smash Bros. 64
Goldeneye
But I'm always looking for something new. Any good retro games to play with friends along with a few alcoholic beverages?
>>3391007
Perfect Dark
Wayne Gretzky 3D hockey
F Zero
Star Fox 64
Battletanx
Twisted Metal
I never got into the WWE games except for the old Royal Rumble game (which is a ton of fun), but those are usually popular
>>3391193
F Zero has 4 player?!
How have I not tried this yet.
>>3391202
No mercy or virtual pro wrestling from Japan.
If you enjoy unforgiving rogulikes with RPG elements, then you're probably going to enjoy Fatal Labyrinth (Mega Drive / Genesis).
It's backstory is pretty cliche (ancient evil who awakened, etc) but i sincerely like the simplicity of the story.
Each floor inside the castle is dark at first, and there are corridors, but as you walk these corridors they will be lit up, and there are rooms, once you step into a tile the room will be fully illuminated, inside the rooms is where stuff happens because it is where the monsters and items are.
There are weapons, helmets, armors, shields, magic scrolls, magic rings and bows, and THIS IS WHERE THE GAME GETS HARDCORE:
Each floor is completely randomly generated, the monsters, items and rooms are all random everytime you step into a new floor
You can only see the attack and defense value of equipment once you wear them
Equipment doesn't last forever, can be broken by creatures and some weapons are cursed, though rare
There are many types of magic scrolls and rings with varying effects and powers, some can destroy creatures, boost your status or curse you and you can't possibly know what one type does unless you use it, if you try getting "info" on a scroll or ring that you never used before it'll say "????"
Some monsters can cast spells and attack from afar, if some creature casts sleep on you and you get swarmed, say goodbye
There are no save points, if you die you have to start everything over, there are 30 floors plus the final boss atop the castle
The game is turn based and walking, attacking or using/discarding an item will advance turns.
On top of it all, you also need to eat food you find inside the castle or your hp will start to drop, but if you each too much you'll get slowed down.
It's a fun game once you understand what you're doing, but it is VERY difficult, so try it out when you have time, or don't.
>>3390890
It's a fun roguelike but I'm sure there's better out there
>>3390890
Thanks for the rundown. Sounds fun.
it's a fun game and worth a try for those who like roguelikes. there's also a somewhat-sequel on Game Gear called Dragon Crystal that's very similar.
ITT: We post animations about retro vidya games.

Did any of you guys actually own this thing back in the day? What did you think about it back then?
Do any of you guys currently own this thing? What do you think about it now?
It's good at maths
>>3390635
I enjoyed playing avp on this. Back then there werent many ego shooters out there. So it was a unique experience. After that i went back to play neogeo games.
>>3390635
It had Doom, which later lead to a decent port of Doom to the GBA.
What went wrong?
>>3390557
its very buggy
Still a good game.
>>3390557
Stretching old games to 1080p.
>>3390557
It's slow as absolute fuck. I don't know what they were thinking.
Without mentioning visuals or music, what sort of argument would /vr/ pick in order to sustain the 16-bit Castle of Illusion as the superior game in comparison to the 8-bit version?
They're different games? Actually, I never played Castle of Illusion on SMS, but I played and enjoyed Land of Illusion on GG.
More time money and effort probably went into it since it was intended as one of the killer apps for the companies flagship product. While the 8 bit version was put out as a game to get some extra quids form Brazillians and Europoors who had Master System IIs.
Not that I've ever played the 8-bit version, for all I know it could be better.
>>3390182
Didn't even know there was an 8-bit version. However the Mega Drive game was one of my first along Sonic 1 when I was a little kid.
The remake is phenomenal, by the way. I don't understand why they ever decided to remake it but it's a beautiful game.

The modelers did give the demons very shapely butts didn't they?

God Policenauts sucks! It's like a really bad Visual Novel. And I don't know, seriously, VN are like the easiest thing in the world to design. So when you design a bad one, that is remarkable.
Like the entire story of Policenaughts is not only a pixel hunt, but you basically have to try everything, and then try everything multiple times. So if you don't know this, like if you want to know about some photograph, you ask about the photograph, and she tells you something, and then you have to ask the same topic again. So that photograph entry can occur 3 or 4 times. And then you have to start from the beginning and try them all again because the third time might have opened something new up. And you have to exhaust every single option. ALL OF THEM. Before the game will let you move on. That is HORRIBLE.
It's not like an oldschool adventure game. Because in an adventure game you don't have to look at and inspect everything on the screen multiple times. You're just sitting there, desperately wanting to move on with the plot, and then you're stuck trying to inspect every little thing over and over again, and asking people the same questions over and over again. Ah it's bad. And when it finally gets exciting, it gets exciting for 20 seconds then you're right back at it.
Is the plot interesting? Not really. You know what the story is? It is 5% Blade Runner, 95% Lethal Weapon. It's straight up Riggs and Murtaugh. It's not even subtle. He rips off whole scenes. It's amazing.
Snatcher is the better game
>>3389262
>It's not like an oldschool adventure game. Because in an adventure game you don't have to look at and inspect everything on the screen multiple times.
This was actually pretty standard for Japanese Adventure games of its time, really.
Ye I agree it is pretty bad. I tried playing it right after Snatcher and my god was it a let down.
Made it to the screen where you meet Meryl and two other dudes and just quit over how monotonous and boring the whole thing was and realised the direction the game was going. A shame coz the opening scene imo was pretty damn good.
Why haven't you beaten this game yet? It's a part of gaming history, and a beautifully written adventure few other games can match.
>>3389049
I tried, got stuck, don't feel cheap enough to look at a walkthrough
>>3389049
I played Return to Zork.... Does that count?
Even though I didn't finish it... but got really damn far! Only to find out that I needed a weed growing on a sign at the start so that people would like my jokes....
Fuck Zork.
>>3389265
Nah, you just need that weed to not get depressed enough to stay there forever.
But I agree, fuck Zork and fuck Return to Zork in particular. Fuck the floppy version most of all, but the CD version is still fucked.
Does it bother you knowing it emits x-ray radiation?
>>3389014

Not really. At this point everything is a threat to give you cancer
My nigga I have that exact TV by my bed. I don't mind the x rays but the ringing when on is very present. It's all I got for the moment but is it at least a half decent CRT?
