Can we get a romhack thread?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=4&v=Kq40R1jK_98
Some obvious examples include this and Super Mario 64: Star Road, but I was wondering if any Anons could recommend some more for me to try.
There exists a Super Mario World romhack in which Mario is placed in H.P. Lovecraft's Call of Cthulhu.

This hack has bugged graphics and discolored tiles on BGB and VBA-M for me.
What am I doing wrong?
I would like to play this on a flashcart, but I'm afraid this hack will damage the GBC.
Would ROM hacks work on an Everdrive so you can play them on the actual console?
I've been looking for years trying to find the following:
There used to be computer games at McDonald's in early 2000s. Looked like pic here, but with a scrolling mouse ball instead of controllers. One game was a horse dress up thing.
Any info on this stuff? I can't find anything, I almost fell like I dreamed it up.
Was it one of the Barbie games?
(BTW, I remember those stations. One of the controllers ALWAYS had a missing control stick. ALWAYS)
OP, I know exactly what you're talking about. Can't find any pictures or info either. You didn't imagine it, though.
I know what you're talking about but don't have any further information to offer.
Bump.
Who really had the superior TV format for retro gaming?
>PAL60
If we're going to include mods and stuff like that then let's just say that RGB on an NTSC CRT is better than both.
But talking strictly retro, NTSC, since most good games in the retro era are japanese.
>>3400584
Argentina and Uruguay are NTSC, though.
>>3400595
>RGB on an NTSC CRT
Oxymoron. And by the way, the majority of European TVs support 60Hz with no problem.
What is the name of that voice effect they in SotN when the characters speak in game? e.g getting hit or when the bosses are talking when they change forms
>>3400371
It just sounds like an ambience effect or tweaked reverb, I don't think there's a specifically named filter to get the same result.
It's probably the PS1's own inbuilt reverb, it seems to apply to a lot of the sound effects in the gae as well as the voices.
It does sound like the voices were recorded in quite a large space before post-processing is even taken into account- They have a very boomy sound, not the sort of sound you get when speaking close up to a condenser mic in a well soundproofed studio. They probably used some pretty budget hardware to record the lines, in keeping with the campy Hammer Horror style of the game.

It's called an echo you fucking idiot. Maybe if you actually went outside once in awhile you'd know what one is.
Happy 25th birthday to Streets of Rage!!
Let's discuss all things SoR itt:
How it was a direct rip off of Final Fight but ended up inspiring things in FF sequels.
How it has one of the best soundtracks ever (even though its 99% plagiarized)
And why Sega has abandoned the franchise and why the hate us so much!
>>3400184
Any recommendations on having fun with them? I got SoR 1 and 2 with the Sega 3D classics and have tried getting into them but it jut seems to be the same walk along and do the same couple moves over and over and over. What's the best way to play them?
>>3400192
>seems to be the same walk along and do the same couple moves over and over and over.
Welcome to ever beat em up ever made.
>>3400192
Yeah, that's pretty much all there is to beat em ups.
The fun is in trying to master it I guess.
The 3D versions I think have infinite continues so there's no real challenge to it. You just keep going until you beat the game. When really you should only have 3 continues.
The genre is also much more fun with a friend in co-op. You can throw each other at bad guys and fuck around.
Any Retro RPGS similar to daggerfall worth playing?
The True RPG Sandbox.
Which aspect of DF in particular?
>>3400174
FPS, Loot, relatively large landscape, shitton of dungeons.
Is there a way to get a decent image quality on a GB emulator on PC or, I am better off emulating it on a portable device/device with a smaller screen?
>>3400131
How is a PC not giving you a decent image quality?
>>3400131
Is this a new meme?
>>3400136
well stretching the image looks like shit. The filter the emulator I use (VBA-M) has available don't really do anything to make it better.
I can play it at the original size but it's obviously too small then. So I was wondering that if on nowadays full hd or UHD displays, the game boy simply has too low resolution to be emulated decently on a high resolution display.
A mostly ignored (in my experience) classic. I would have expected a metal gear for game boy color to have been kind of half-assed, but this was really great.
>>3399726
Well of course it's good it's made by the same people that made MG2, minus Kojima hovering above everyone to fuck something up. Best 2 MG game desu.
Fukushima > Kojima
>>3399726
It's pretty good. I've never played vr missions but I assume it recreates pretty much that entire game in vr mode aside from the murder mystery, big soldiers, and picture taking bits. In addition to a campaign comparable to the Playstation mgs in terms of length, gameplay mechanics, and storytelling
Favourite retro controller thread? I have pic related and it's amazing for fighters.
>>3399670
People think I'm crazy, but I can do better and faster fighting motions like dp, qcf-hcb and 36 motions way easier on the tiny Dreamcast pad than any other or stick I've ever used.
Does /vr/ like Gaming in the Clinton Years?

i remember watching it in the early days of youtube. Then i forgot about youtube till become mainstream in the late 00's and forgot about his existence. Is weird looking at game reviews from the 90's because the lack of order to analize every single aspect of the games.
>>3399652
>Donkey Kong Country is truly perfect. If you do not get this amazing new generation of Donkey Kong madness, you are stupid. Yes, I know, that's insulting, but it's also the truth.
George Wood is definitely a regular on /vr/.
Some folks on /v/ were saying Sonic 3 Complete was the best version of Sonic 3, so what's up with the comments on the bottom?
>What people are saying about Sonic 3 Complete!
>“I found Sonic 3 Complete to be boring to play… I am sure that if everyone's version of Sonic 3 definitive is basically Sonic 3 Complete, I will blow my f***ing brains out.” – MarkeyJester
>“Some changes sound pretty useless” – TotalAnarchy
>“f*** epic AND WHAT HAPPEND TO THE F***ING SCORE?! AND F***ING NO SUPER SONIC MEGA NO SUPER SONIC!!! NOT COMPLETE” – UberTheHedgehog
>“This hack sucks” – KesterStudios
I just want the most glitch free and polished version of Sonic 3 & Knuckles.
The hack's creator is being a smartass by using those as the quotes. It's great, just go for it
S3C is the best version of the game though. No idea what the fuck those comments are on about, you can change that shit in the options, and seriously
>some changes sound pretty useless?
fuck that nigga, more options are fine. Who cares if someone else added in more shit to your game what the fuck are you whining about.
I was actually just playing this today. Haven't played in years, got super in Hydro City and forgot it gets taken off you when you start mushroom hill.
Fun as fuck fan thing though.
What's that one sonic hack that adds a boatload of playable characters?
I suck at RTS and I cheated my way through the end of the Terran campaign before quitting entirely when I was a kid but I want to finish this game legit, help me please.
>>3399240
What mission are you on ? Normal or brood war?
>>3399240
Starcraft only really gets good when you LAN it up.
That being said, I've mostly played campaign due to lack of interested parties.
If you need to granny-roll your way to victory, the trick is the CPU never rebuilds turrets, so destroy those. Then crush everything with a massive airforce or rolling siege. You want at least 2 squadrons so that damaged units can be protected and repaired while active units don't let up. On the opposite side of the coin, turtle your main base to hell and back with turrets. With enough, the enemy can't gain any traction on you.
If you want to get better, make groups with mixed units. This is absolutely key. Knowing your enemy and finding a good unit composition to counter their chosen units is the bread and butter of the game.
Btw, if stick to normal. If you can't beat normal, Brood War will fuck you up really badly.
Are the retro Virtua Fighters worth playing nowadays?
>>3399161
Yeah. They're retired now as a franchise.
>>3399161
go play VF2, come back and /thread.
>>3399170
Is VF1 worth it?
Shaken, not stirred.

KID MODE

i replayed this one last year and i'd forgotten just how much there is to do on some of the later levels; they do a good job at making you feel like you are saving the day in the nick of time. the story is meh but the gameplay mechanics are solid, and i like the tongue-in-cheek way some of the limitations are explained away (two swing limit, no street level access, etc.)
as an aside, is the sequel worth playing? if it's just more of the same then i'm not exactly going to hurry to get it. all i remember of it at the time was that they had the black lines on Spiderman's costume this time.
Is emulation good enough that I can throw a PS1 game on my TV with shaders or is CRT + Console the way to go?
>>3398616
do you know where i can get one that works? also any tips on buying one?
>>3398616
mednafen.
Well, you can throw a PS1 game on your TV but you might damage your TV if you do it too harshly. You should be specially careful with CRTs.
Jokes aside, there are fairly accurate emulators. The issue you will have is response time. If you have a 120hz monitor, you can get around this by using RetroArch and enabling "Black Frame Insertion" which works specially well with monitors that support LightBoost.
I do that exactly. I have an old 120hz LCD monitor that gets somewhat... darker if I use black frame insertion but it looks really well, specially with shaders. You need a beefier computer for that effect though, keep that in mind. Mednafen is specifically the emulator (or core) you're looking for.
