Hello /vr/, what are your favorite 2D or 2.5D platformers for the PS1?

I've only played pic related, and I've never really been a fan of 3D platformers, so I'm looking for some other good ones to play.

I don't know a lot of them but The Adventure of Little Ralph is one of my favorite PS1 games:
https://youtu.be/Ax3n38JYESE

Can someone help me remember the name of a PAL psone game that anon posted a couple months ago? It was a white wire frame-ish type character and you would use only 4 buttons to make him jump and spin and what not to move through the level. Scribble something? Thanks in advance. Pic unrelated.

I generally don't even like Castlevania and I still think 4 is tight as shit.

8/10, maybe 7 at worst.
>>
>>3402321

10/10. my favorite Castlevania game. love everything about it. and the whip mechanics are just so fucking fun, it's really amazing what you can do with the whip once you completely master using it.

Do you think you could build a clone console that you'd actually buy/use? What would it be?

I'd love a console that could play GB/GBC/GBA and could do 240p over Component/RGB, with support for NES and SNES controllers. Almost like a stand-alone Gameboy Player for the GC, but without having to get 3rd party controllers and $200 cables.

I get where the hardware purists are coming when it comes to consoles, but I don't know why you'd bother to build a TV-hookup clone for handhelds when you can just emulate on a PC unless you have a wholly irrational obsession with legitimate physical media but not the rest of the hardware chain.
>>
>>3402149
I rather play the original games than the original hardware.
>>
Now that a new era of N64 emulation is only moments away, I could finally see myself doing a dedicated x86 machine with zero purpose other than:
>Upon boot, launch the emulation front-end (with my own GUI)
>Everything pre-configured, no gay ini shit or abrupt Windows updates anywhere
>Everything works
>Super simple form factor, maybe a cube of American walnut or Mahogany with a single led and a power button
>ROM catalog contains all versions of all known good dumps and informs me if hacks are available
>Catal updatable from my main machine through ethernet
>Upon closing, update cores

That's the only clone console I'd be satisfied with

Hi

I wanted to replay FF:VI, but cant decide on the console/emulator.
Should I play it on GBA, PS1 or Snes and what version?

SFC version.
>>
SNES version with Ted Woolsey's romhack.
>>
>>3401926
Depends on your situation. If you have the means to play it on SNES then do so, if you have a gameboy with a back lit screen then play it that way, if you can deal with the load times of the PS1 edition then play it that way.

aparently they use it as a monitor for security cameras that arnt ever used not shure what to do /vr/.the monitor would have been perfect to use on retro rgb consoles tho

>>
Screen is probably all kinds of fucked up. My pvm was from a TV station, it has 16:9 crop bars burnt in forever.
>>
Invent some incident which requires you to review security camera footage then talk them into "upgrading" their monitor to an LCD.
>>
>>3401729
Check if you can turn it on or check how many hours it has. If it was used as a security monitor there's a decent chance it has some severe burn in. If not, make them an offer.

Weird question maybe, I just got some kickass 70's speakers and an amp from a friend of family who's retiring to Florida and doesn't want them anymore. Maybe it's a strange question but I'm still wondering. Is it possible to damage games or hardware (from any period) if it sits next to or on top of these speakers? Just wanna make sure I'm not gonna screw up my game systems. The most I could figure would be screen damage but they aren't close to my TV.

Hi /vr/, I like two things; Retro video games, and drinking.

I was wondering if anyone here could share some video game drinking games, or talk about their drinking experiences with retro videogames.

Metal Slug, best drinking game. Every credit and new level, take a shot.

Mario Kart 64:

Every race you must down a whole beer.
You may not drink while accelerating.

Hello, anon. I like those two things as well. Unfortunately, when I get drunk, I get horrible at games. Back when I used to smoke fucktons of weed, on the other hand, it was bonghits and Astrosmash for hours and hours.

Why were the Castlevania games for Nintendo systems so awful?

Vampire Killer > Castlevania
Rondo of Blood > Dracula's Curse
Bloodlines > Super Castlevania IV
Chronicles > Adventure ReBirth
Symphony of the Night > GBA/DS

And yet, the Nintendo games are the ones people only ever praise.

here's what you do OP, it's simple. Just whoop that motherfuckin ass

get him with the pipe, kick him in his balls, punch him 100 TIMES, and then when your laser is fully charged set your phasers to DIE
>>
as a child i hated these sections. they were poorly done and often frustrating. my advice is just keep playing until you beat it. you'll get a technique.
